Nooooooo, I would lose most of my faith in Obama if he chose Granholm. That woman can NOT do anything right. It really irritates me. I mean, sure she was a smidge better than Dick Devos but who knows..maybe HE would have actually done something worth while. Here’s to hoping for a better Michigan Governor.

Trent, what I love about you is that you always try to be fair when you report political news. You aren’t mean spirited about the other side. When politics seems so polarize these days (the hate and hypocrisy of the right is matched by the hate and hypocrisy of the left), it is nice to read something by a liberal (you) who doesn’t feel he has to demonize the other side to say positive things about things he believes in. I rarely agree with your political viewpoint but I do appreciate the thoughtful way that you convey your opinions.

Like you, I am a former Detroiter (Grosse Pointe – but not ULS – GP South). Thanks for keeping me entertained all these years!

@emily — you have every right to be concerned and I applaud you for speaking your mind. many of my family and friends work in the Detroit automotive industry so I do feel what you’re saying. Without going into the details of my car selection choice, I will tell you that poor service of my previous car (Pontiac) led to my initial choice to buy my new car (VW) but my family owns many US cars. I’ve already decided that any new car will come from Detroit … but that is neither here nor there. I thank you for your response, we don’t have to always agree … but I do lurve ya ;) xox

I always liked Souter. I may not always agree with his position but I feel like he always stuck to his guns. He was appointed by the first president Bush and was expected to be conservative, but immediately went moderate and even liberal. He was even a dissenter in the decision that allowed Bush #2 to take office in 2000. Can’t top my love of O’Connor, but he seems like a good guy. Hopefully they will find someone equally dignified to take his place. And I hope they are able to find a female b/c I’d like to see a little balance back to the court.

Trent, sorry I got all bitchy. It is just because My whole family works in the car biz (scary)and I just don’t understand some peoples choice to buy a foreign car even when they live in or r from a place that needs all the support that we can get..

Seriously? Very few on the Supreme Court are “fair and balanced.” And Jennifer Granholm is horrible. Kick ‘em all out, I say. They all have agendas and seek power for their own gain, not the gain of their fellow countrymen.

@BaldOuting: TOTALLY agree! Thank goodness. i wish a conservative judge were retiring, but at least we can be assured that a “liberal” (or, as Trent said, someone tips the scale towards fairness and equality) will be replaced by another.

Maybe we will get lucky and Obama will have the same luck with his justice that George H. W. Bush had when picking Souter. He will pick someone he thinks is ultra liberal and end up getting a super conservative.

GRANHOLM? Are you freaking kidding? After all she’s “done” for Michigan??
I had the “pleasure” of working for her in the State of Michigan until the economy there drove my husband out of job and we had to move. I can tell you first hand, that woman has no where near the experience, integrity or good common sense to serve on our Supreme Court.
