Ryan Reynolds Signs On To Appear In A Deadpool Movie
Spoiler Alert Warning?

Ryan Reynolds, who currently stars in the new movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, has just signed on to appear in his own movie based on the Deadpool character. Depending on how you look at this news (and depending on whether or not you’ve seen X-Men Origins: Wolverine yet) this might come as a bit of a spoiler but considering the fact that Deadpool is a major character in the Marvel Comics canon, I suppose it really shouldn’t be a surprise that he would get his own movie. No release date or title has yet been announced but the LA Times is reporting (by way of Variety) that Reynolds has definitely signed on to do the film:

Ryan Reynolds WILL star in “Deadpool,” a spin-off for the character he played the character in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Talk about fate and fulfilling your destiny. True X-Men fan boys will recall that in the original Marvel Comics, Deadpool is described as a mix between “a Shar Pei and Ryan Reynolds.” The character is one of Marvel Comics’ X-Men universe’s most popular heroes. Deadpool is actually Wade Wilson, a terminally ill mercenary who gets that wacky Weapon X genetic alteration drill and becomes an indestructible half-crazy antihero. According to Variety, the film will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel. Did we mention that Fox is also working on a “Wolverine” sequel with the samurai storyline? Not enough X-Men for ya? Fox is also developing “Magneto,” a film about the X-Men villain and “X-Men: First Class.”

Considering that Wolverine made $87 million at the box office in its opening weekend, I was pretty sure that a new X-Men movie would be in the works … I hadn’t anticipated that it would be a Deadpool movie, tho. That said, having seen Deadpool‘s portrayal in Wolverine, I can totally understand how there is more about the character that needs to be explored. I am really excited about the Magneto movie … he is deffo one of my fave X-Men, particularly because of the complexity of his character. He’s a bad guy, technically, but a good guy in some respects as well. It looks like FOX is really lookin’ to dip into the X-Men pool in order siphon out as much money as they can. If the movie’s are done right, they can be really great … but if they keep churning out mediocre fare, I think they might just kill off a franchise way before its time.

LOVES IT!! I love all comic movies and especially X-Men. I grew up watching the Saturday cartoon! I can’t wait.

  3. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

PS now if we could just get a bad ass Thundercats movie I might be totally satisfied!

  4. i don’t know if a deadpool movie would be so good. on his own, he isn’t a strong character – not like wolverine. maybe a gambit movie. gambit was badass in the new wolverine flick.

I said before that I really did enjoy the Wolverine movie, but I definitely did think that the characters needed a little more exploring. Deadpool in particular. I will CERTAINLY be seeing this movie (if it does take place) if only because Ryan Reynolds was flippin’ sexy in Wolverine. Of course, it would be nice if the movie was done well, but I truly would see it regardless.

I just saw Wolverine last night and I really liked Ryan Reynolds role in the movie. I would definitely go see the Deadpool movie:)

    Megan Fox for Wonder Woman!

  8. Shannon says:

I will see pretty much anything that he is in.

I totally agree about mediocrity killing off the franchise. Wolverine was a little bit better than X-3 but the increasing crappiness of these movies is hard to ignore. Im excited to hear that Magneto might get his own movie- just talked about that possibility with a friend over his experience in the concentration camps as a mutant child but I’d rather see Marvel do that story than FOX.

He was the best part of the movie (and didn’t get enough screen time) so I am very excited about this decision.

  11. Trish says:

Eh, I was hoping for a Gambit movie :(

  12. I just jope they don’t get too carried away…But I have to admit I’d spend my whole paycheck seeing a Green Lantern Movie!!!
