The reigning Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, who recently lost the crown in the Miss USA pageant and then joined the National Organization for Marriage in order to rally against same-sex marriage (after she publicly voiced her opposition to marriage equality when queried on the matter during the Miss USA paegent) has found a new controversial topic to talk about this week. A new photo of the topless Prejean has made its way to the Internets (TheDirty.com found the dirty on Miss Cali USA) which, some say, calls into question her ability to act as a role model in her capacity as Miss California USA. As you may recall, Vanessa Williams (the first African-American Miss America) was stripped of the Miss America crown back in 1983 when nude photos of her were published in Penthouse magazine. Could Carrie Prejean, who in a new statement confirms that she did pose topless as a “model”, lose her crown as Miss Califnornia USA as a result? Here is a preview of Carrie‘s topless photo and the full text of her statement of confirmation:

“On April 19, I chose to answer a question during the 2009 Miss USA pageant in an honest and personal manner that expressed my views of the long-established definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman. That answer, and my commitment to stand by my beliefs, has since resulted in attacks on me and my integrity as a woman. We live in a great country; a nation that was built on freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Yet my comments defending traditional marriage have led to intimidation tactics that seek to undermine my reputation and somehow silence me and my beliefs, as if opinion is only a one-way street.
“I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be. But these attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive. While we may not agree on every issue, we should show respect for others’ opinions and not try to silence them through vicious and mean-spirited attacks.
“With that in mind, I will continue to support and defend marriage as the honorable institution it is. I will continue to stand with the overwhelming majority of the American people and the voters of my home state of California. If this whole experience has taught me anything, it is our precious right to speak freely, and how we as Americans can never allow anyone or any group to intimidate or threaten us to keep silent.”
See … when people take the moral high ground they need to be very careful. If you live in a glass house and you start throwing around stones, people are gonna throw back. Calling Prejean names is childish and wrong but questioning her holier than thou attitude in the face of her decision to pose in this manner seems very valid to me. Does being a model preclude someone from being religious? Absolutely not. There are many religions that have no restrictions about working in this field. But the most staunch conservative Christians might have a problem with it and I think that is where the concern for Prejean lies. After the jump, check out this photo in full — I suppose it should be labeled as NSFW even tho she is mostly covered but view at your own discretion …

I, personally, do not see anything wrong with this photo. I’ve seen racier photos in Maxim magazine. I doubt that she will lose her Miss California USA crown as a result of the release of his photo. I feel that Carrie Prejean has a right to be a Christian and pose in this manner if it is what she sees fit. It is not anyone’s place to impose their beliefs on her on how to live her life. I just wish she would realize and do the same for others.

you septics are a peice of work
freedom of speech in the great US of A, wonder where that went.
You people are an embarrassment to the world Heaven forbid if someone disagrees with your narrow minded metro sexual hillbilly beliefs{ can you say sex in the US of A} and I will not mention the botocs pumping plastic hairy arm pitted anchovy munching women you bred. Ah well better get back to rooting Dingos, ca’ ya say Dingos over there, I’m sure you poofters will let me know if I can’t. Juv Jules
“I feel that Carrie Prejean has a right to be a Christian and pose in this manner if it is what she sees fit. It is not anyone’s place to impose their beliefs on her on how to live her life. I just wish she would realize and do the same for others.” Well said.
Yet, I am still inclined to defend Prejean. I am also a Christian (and also imperfect); yet in today’s society, I feel the pressure of not standing up to my beliefs due to fear of being ostracized from the human race. I feel automatically stereotyped as insensitive, or less compassionate. Does it make you less of a human being to take action for what you believe in? Do you deserved to be attacked? Don’t you have the same rights as any other person?
I understand that that’s exactly what the fight about same sex marriage is about — equal rights. I went to the website of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) and was disappointed to read that it was founded “in response to the growing need for an organized opposition to same-sex marriage in state legislatures.” While I am ok with the concept of combining state and religion as a personal choice AND right, perhaps the politically (and compassionately) correct goal for NOM should have been ‘encourage opposite-sex marriage’. Because, yes, NOM’s ‘opposing’ CAN be considered a way of imposing beliefs (like you said, Trent).
I am simply asking we not attack Prejean. I am reminded of the movie “Mona Lisa Smile” where Julia Stiles’ character defends her choice to stay as a housewife, despite it being considered as not progressive (for women’s movement). We can be progressive-thinking without having to enjoy bringing people down. God bless.
What is the story here? NO frontal and No Nip. Celebs wearing bathing suits expose more…This was a clearly a portfolio pix
No Biggie: See her hand up in the air, clearly holding a camera? And the bathroom mirror in the background? This isn’t a portfolio picture at all, which is why it’s annoying that she defended it by saying she’s a model. Yeah, ok, then so was Pete Wentz when he had pix of his dick on his camera phone…
It is all just so sad to me. Society preaches being tolerant of others’ lifestyle choices, yet not many seem to practice that belief. People are entitled to their opinion, and we may not have to like it or agree with it, but we certainly need to show respect for it. The fact that she is being hung out to dry by gay marriage supporters is just wrong. They are not right anymore than she is wrong. And the fact that everyone and their uncle is going through her “dirty laundry” to find ANYTHING that might incriminate her is just pathetic.
i got 2 words for this backslidding hoochie mama:
dick.head.
that’s what she is.
i agree with trent that she shouldn’t be called names, but if she says something that alienates so many people, not just gay people, but people like me who know gay couples and want them to have the same rights and opportunities as i do. i think she needs to take a step back and realize that these pictures would have probably come out eventually and that if she is as religious as she says she is, btw i’m very religious and i still support gay marriage, she should try and be more tolerant of others…
@munive — I am sad for you :(
