Last week we learned from a report from TMZ that Mel Gibson‘s mistress, Oksana Grigorieva (whom he recently started up a romantic relationship with while he was still married to his wife of 29 years Robyn) is pregs with his child … which resulted in Robyn filing for divorce. Mel appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night and confirmed to Jay that his girlfriend is pregs with his child, joking that he can now be called “Octo-Mel” since his mistress will be giving birth to his 8th child — classy, classy guy:
It’s official: Mel Gibson’s girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, is pregnant. The actor confirmed the news during a taping of NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno to air [last night]. “I guess I’m ‘Octo-Mel,’” says Gibson, who already has seven kids with his wife of 28 years, Robyn. Robyn filed for divorce six weeks ago amidst speculation that Grigorieva, a singer on Gibson’s record label, was expecting a child. “My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we’ve been separated ever since then,” Gibson tells Leno. “These things happen. It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but you know she is an admirable woman — we still got kids together, we’re friends.” “Look,” Gibson continues. “When it’s all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I’m to blame. If you’re inclined to judge, put it here.” Gibson also says his separation from Robyn had nothing to do with Grigorieva, whom he didn’t meet until 2008. When asked by Leno if they would wed, Gibson says: “Why would you get married twice?” According to reports, Grigorieva is in her second trimester and due this fall.
As a result of Mel‘s confirmation on national television last night, his official rep issued a statement that was released in between the show’s taping (yesterday afternoon) and the show’s airing (late last night):

For those eager to point to Grigorieva’s pregnancy as a catalyst for Gibson’s divorce, they’ll be wrong, says the close source: “This has nothing to do with the divorce. Mel didn’t even know Oksana was pregnant when they filed.”
Ha! Right! There really ain’t much damage control that can be done at this point so I guess saying that Mel didn’t even know his mistress was pregnant when his wife filed for divorce is all they could come up with. You know, even if you buy that “we’ve been separated for 3 years” line he’s trying to feed us, it’s pretty disrespectful to sleep around ON YOUR WIFE and the mother of your 7 children while you’re still married to her. WWJD? The hypocrisy of Gibson‘s religiousness just grosses me out to no end. His pious bullshizz turned me off to him years ago, this just seals the deal and shows the man’s true colors, IMHO. I wish Ms. Grigorieva all the luck in the world … I hope that Mel Gibson doesn’t eff her and her baby over in the same way he effed over his wife.

Ugh, I completely agree. And like him cheating on his wife isn’t bad enough but then to make tasteless jokes about it? I get that we’re all human and we all make mistakes but being a Chrisitian myself, I think if you’re going to call youself a Christian (especially being a public figure like he is and making a movie like the Passion of the Christ) you need to live by the morals you preach at for other people not make jokes about cheating on your wife of 28 years. And if it doesn’t bother him as a Christian it should at the very least bother him as a father.
Aren’t there schools in Russia where you can go to learn how to golddig? I’m sure getting knocked up has got to be at top of the list.

Incredibly tacky. He certainly has a high opinion of himself to think he can just go on Leno, make a couple of insensitive jokes and be loved by the public once again.
Seriously…who cares! They were separated for a long time…maybe not the entire three years…but they were separtated… that means not together. Leave the man alone… It is what it is!!
They were separated for 3 years? srsly 3 years if you’re separated from someone for 3 years your relationship is over and you’re free do do whatever and whoever you want.

I completely agree Mel is just gross and he apparently has thrown all his convictions overboard. I guess he’ll just do confession and be ok again…..
Wow Trent, it’s not often you rant about someone. You’re usually pretty non-judgemental, but I get the impression Gibson’s religious stance gets under your skin and wonder why it runs so deep in you.
Agree with canuckistani. This is not the typical Trent. Some people just rub ya the wrong way, I guess. There’s Hollywood phoniness which is PR driven and all that. But then there’s bone deep phoniness, and when it’s combined with self righteousness, it gets even guys like Trent riled up. As for the three year separation. It was only announced AFTER the fact and the wifey and him couldn’t even agree upon the date it supposedly happened. Moving into a love nest is not a legal separation, Mel.
Actually… while it’s true that separation is not divorce, it’s also way different than married. Many people separate and decide that things are indeed ‘over’, but don’t bother with a full and official divorce because it’s a big hassle, costs a lot of money, lot of paperwork, etc etc.
A legal separation (which involves lawyers and paperwork too) is considered different than married. Not quite divorced, but not married either. Many people don’t do the full divorce until it’s absolutely necessary– say, if you’re getting remarried.
My ex-husband and I separated in 2001. We couldn’t afford a full divorce at the time. Then I was with my second husband for several years before we married, and indeed we were legally “common-law married” even though I was “only” separated from my first husband. I was no bigamist, and I was not cheating on him. That’s just how it works.
When we decided to get fully married, I filed for the full divorce from my first husband. It was a technicality by that point.
Now I don’t know if Mel’s separation from his wife was of the “legal” type, or just a mutual personal thing. And I also won’t say his behaviour isn’t skeevy and hypocritical. But if indeed he had a legal separation, then he never was cheating on his wife. I’ll agree with you on almost everything else in this situation, but not on that.
I get the impression he was trying to be a “Good Catholic” and stay married, even if it was in name only, but then when the girlfriend got pregnant, the wife decided to put an end the charade. I agree w/ Trent that behavior like this from someone who acts so holier-than-thou is really obnoxious.

@Heather – I’m really positive that if you’re legally married to someone else, you cannot be “common-law married”. You may gain legal rights to property for co-habiting…

I’m in the same boat as you. Mel Gibson is a joke and to go on National television and make this mess even more public than it already is is disrespectful, not only to his soon to be ex-wife who I think is lucky to finally be free of this moron, but to his kids who have to be old enough to read what is going on and to watch their father act like a jackass.

Well I’m glad he at least said the break-up of his marriage is all his fault, but that was pretty obvious all along. He’s probably trying to look like a good guy. It’s true that many people decide their marriage is over and separate but don’t get the full divorce. What I find disgusting about Mel is the many affairs he had when they WERE married and most of all, the anti-Semitism (that is so obvious no matter how many excuses people try to come up with about that).
But yeah, when someone who is such a prick tries to be likable, it’s pretty obnoxious.
I really liked Mel’s enthusiasm when he made “The Passion”, as it was a very powerful and well-made film depicting events straight from The Gospels. But this whole debacle with his wife and pregnant mistress turns my stomach. I am Christian myself and it’s this kind of behavior that makes us look bad as a whole. C’mon, Mel, surely you have read your Bible enough to know that this ain’t right? Divorce is one thing, but then parading around your pregnant mistress is wrong on so many levels! I don’t care how long you’ve been “separated”.
