I’m from MA and was proud when they allowed same sex marriage and for the last 9 years I’ve lived in Maine and I’m so happy that we now allow it! It still baffles me how only 5 states are allowing same sex marriage when we’re supposed to be a country that treats all people equally. I’m hoping these 5 states motivate the rest of the country to follow.

I have to say congrats to my home state. I have always had gay/lesbian friends. My ex-husband can now marry his partner instead of just having a commitment ceremony. An old saying “As Maine goes so goes the nation”. We are a pretty conservative but forward looking state.

Yay! I’m so proud of my home state right now! I too was listening to the debate this week & I agree that many of the legislators had really great, touching things to say. Brought tears to my eyes more than once (: It’s so nice to see our efforts pay off (I was one of many people who gathered signtures requesting the lagalization of marriage equality for all and sent the pettions in this past election season).

I wonder how many people had to look at a map today to see where Maine is. It blows my mind whenever I go on vacation (in the US) and tell people that I’m from Maine and they think it’s part of Canada or have never heard of it.

This is a VERY GOOD THING for all Americans, regardless of their sexuality. I see it as the “Berlin Wall” issue of our time. The individual states will chip away and chip away at it and finally, one day, it will come crashing down.
