Breast Cancer at 10?! That truly breaks my heart. My Mom is currently battling cancer and her strength is what keeps her going but the thought of a 10 year old child fighting the disease is truly heart breaking. I’ll be thinking of her and praying for the best.

Maybe some would disagree…but I would take an atrophic breast from radiation over potentially dying of breast cancer any day. It’s terrible to have to decide that at 10 or for your 10 year old child…but in my mind it’s a no-brainer.
Hayden is beautiful! she lost weight and had her hair off. Happy that she enjoys the life, hope it will found a new baby, he can take care of herself.
Hayden looks great in a bikini, she has been seriously working out apparently. But… I took a closer look at her tattoo and says “Vivere senza rimipiante” which means Live without regret, except rimipiante should be rimpiante, it’s mispelled! Horrible. U always have to check before getting a tattoo in a language u don’t understand.

@Cait: The article has confused the issue (and what can you expect from jezebel – it’s hardly a bastion of top class journalism). I think the oncologist is trying to explain the decision to do a mastectomy, rather than just a wide local excision (which leaves most of the breast behind) + radiation, which is the norm for older women if they have small tumours. She’ll get a better cosmetic outcome by having the whole breast removed, and being reconstructed at a later date once her other breast has fully developed, so they can match them. I hope that made sense – my brain is a bit slow at the moment. But, don’t worry, they would have recommended radiation if she would have benefited from it (some people do still need it even after a mastectomy, depending on certain factors). What a brave girl! I hope she does ok in the long term.
