Lady Gaga Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine
Covers the annual 'Hot List' issue

Lady Gaga is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. She graces the cover of the annual Hot List issue and was photographed by David LaChapelle … which totally makes sense since they both seem to have the same aesthetic for inventive, colorful and eye-catching images. Here is Gaga‘s cover and a portion of her coverstory interview:

Watch out, Katy Perry: there’s a new princess of pop who kisses girls (for real), claims Marilyn Manson and Madonna as fans and is on the verge of becoming the defining pop star of the year. Lady Gaga struts the streets pants-less, has everyone from Weezer to Justin Timberlake singing her songs and has moved nearly 10 million digital singles — and now she’s on the cover of Rolling Stone’s annual Hot List. “I don’t feel like I look like the other perfect little pop singers,” she tells RS‘ Brian Hiatt in our new feature, on newsstands today. “I think I’m changing what people think is sexy.” Gaga is also changing what it means to be a 21st century pop star, and she’s doing it through 24 hours a day of work — she’s a walking Gaga art project known as much for her outrageous fashion sense as her Eighties-flavored dance hits. “The truth is, the psychotic woman that I truly am comes out when I’m not working,” she says (during Hiatt’s time with the star, she rocks a massive radio concert, takes advice from Cyndi Lauper at a photo shoot and suffers a brief breakdown at a Walmart.com taping). “When I’m not working, I go crazy” … “When they called and told me about [my cover], I nearly cried,” she tells us on the set. Lady Gaga’s devotion to being a star drove her to order bags of cocaine and spend hours perfecting her hair and makeup in a tiny Lower East Side apartment after she dropped out of NYU several years ago — well before she was actually famous. “It was quite sick,” she admits. “I suppose that’s where the vanity of the album came from.” Her debut, The Fame, was almost entirely inspired by her relationship with a heavy-metal drummer named Luke, and their breakup profoundly changed Gaga. She tells Hiatt she’s bisexual, but her attraction to women is purely physical. It’s an aspect of her sexuality that makes boyfriends “uncomfortable,” she says. Her sexuality proclivities don’t seem to offend Marilyn Manson, however, who lobbed a series of awful pickup lines at his new friend at our cover shoot (grab the issue to hear his worst). “She knows exactly what she’s doing,” he tells RS. “She’s very smart, she’s not selling out, she’s a great musician, she’s a great singer, and she’s laughing when she’s doing it, the same way that I am.” The savvy Gaga reveals her real musical goals are serious, though: “My true legacy will be the test of time, and whether I can sustain a space in pop culture and really make stuff that will have a genuine impact.”

I suppose it can finally be said that Lady Gaga has made it … that is, if you consider landing the cover of Rolling Stone magazine “making it” anymore. I, personally, am not the biggest fan. While I like some of her songs, I really do not like her album The Fame. She deffo has the skillz to write amazing pop songs (as she has done for other artists) but the songs she chose for her album aren’t that great, IMHO. I’m really looking forward to hearing what her second album is like … that will be the determiner for me if she really has the chops to have a serious career. I admire her need to look “different” but I feel that she tries way too hard to look “out there”. It doesn’t seem cool to me to be trying so hard. But, it’s her thing and she is running with it … good for her. Click HERE to watch a short behind-the-scenes video from her Rolling Stone photoshoot. As I said, I find Lady Gaga to be very talented … but, thus far, those talents have yet to speak to me in order to make me go ga-ga. What do you think … should Lady Gaga be the covergirl for Rolling Stone‘s Hot Issue this year?

Gross. I was wondering what the fascination with her was… I still have no idea… Maybe it’s just people trying to watch long enough to see if she might actually have a penis under her skirt?

    Where’s the sexy? I don’t see it.

I love GaGa, but I agree that this picture is not at all attractive. She IS unique and talented and, unlike most pop stars, writes her own music. He album is fun and full of hits and that is proven by two #1s right of the bat with “Lovegame” climbing the charts fast. She is weird, wacky, tacky, wild….but so was Cyndi Lauper and she has had a long career. So she still has to prove her staying power, but so far, so good. But I do agree, this picture has GOT TO GO! Ha!

  3. Karly says:

She is sooooo weird. So weird tht I can’t help but like her and that makes me hate myself a little bit. Poker Face is so catchy it just annoys the hell out of me

  4. Jadedkitten says:

@ wendell what’s unique about her????

  5. Janelle says:

I’m relieved to read your opinion. Only a couple times have I heard her song “Just Dance” and was not blown away immediately. (The only reason I heard it was because Michael Scott on The Office drove up with it playing in his car) She isn’t impressing me and it was confusing to hear so many people talk about her ‘fierceness’.

  6. CHASE says:

@ Jadedkitten – Well, let’s see: She wrote all of the songs on “The Fame” by herself which made critics thoroughly impressed. She sings LIVE which no one hardly does anymore while dancing at the same time. She just has it. I will agree that lately she has been trying a wee bit too hard to stand out and before it was just her. I definitely do think she’s treading in the water of overexposure and needs to do something smart about it. I think “The Fame” is an all right CD; there’s like 5 songs I like but it’s a little bit repetitive for my taste.

  7. Jadedkitten says:

@ chase which part of any of that is suppose to be unique do you know how many Artist do that?

  8. Tom says:

I can’t stand her…and I had such high hopes of her…I like 3 songs…which are the singles she’s releasing…I previewed the album with the intention of buying but God does it suck….and now the cover…Can ya say: Hello Xtina

  9. LemonFairy says:

I agree with Lana ‘She is overrated and tries too hard to be unique’

  10. Blair says:

I think the cover looks good mainly because it was shot by David Lachapelle, but really dislike her music and she is shit live.

  11. procrastination101 says:

her album took time to grow on me, but i like it. i do agree that she tries too hard to be so unique and different. she needs to let her talent speak for itself and not be so concerned with the theatrics. i think everything but the face is cute on that cover. she’s actually not ugly but her stupid tranny image makes her look like a butterface.

  12. Tonya says:

I like her and yea she tries too hard but I rather look at someone that tries rather than someone that just puts on a short skirt and struts around. The cover is a little insane…but it’s Rolling Stone…it’s supposed to be a little crazy.

  13. Melinda says:

She won’t last long, I love the two popular songs (to listen to when i am working out) but other than that, she is a flash in the pan. Her voice live is horrendous……..

  14. nae says:

meh. too much effort put forth that ain’t gonna get her anywhere. can’t stand her music that she sings. maybe she should stick to writing. she’s just a strange duck.

  15. MaxFever says:

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve read the lyrics to some of Lady Gaga’s songs, and they don’t make any fucking sense. So if anything is unique and talented about her, it’s the fact that she can make noisy, gibberish songs and have people buy it.

  16. rickattack says:

    i love lady gaga!!
i love every song on the album!!!
seriously… it’s great. listen to it again!

  17. belle says:

I agree, I’m not that impressed. Her songs are just OK. Some are catchy, without being really great, but she doesn’t have charisma as a performer to me. She just tries too hard and still falls flat, she just doesn’t have that star quality IMO.

  18. perezhater says:

im so over this broad. she acts like she reinvented the wheel. so you made 2 songs that people liked. ur not the princess a pop.. come out with another cd before ur head blows up as big as ur nose.

its not like she could sell out arenas or the madison sq garden 3 nights in a row like madonna or britney. give me a break. can you say overexposed??!

  19. perezhater says:

thats funny, in the beginning she was kissing britneys ass..

  20. CHASE says:

Oh, and I would also like to point out that it makes me mad that people are even putting her in the same sentence with the title of Princess of Pop; that belongs to Britney my dear friend.
