Kara DioGuardi Confirms That She Is Leaving ‘American Idol’
"I'm only here for one season"

New American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is confirming to TV Guide magazine that if everything goes according to the initial plan she will be, indeed, leaving AI after this season is over. She reveals that she was only brought on board for one season but I suspect there’s more to it than that. Having 4 judges means there is less time for each judge to go about the business of judging. Recently there was a terrible episode of AI were only 2 of the 4 judges was allowed time do judge each performance … it just didn’t work. As a result, Kara has got to go. She is dunzo, y’all:

She’s finally come into her own, but the newest American Idol judge knows as little as we do about whether or not the four-judge format is here to stay. “I’m only here for one season,” Kara DioGuardi tells TV Guide Magazine exclusively. “That’s what we’ve discussed. So we’ll see what happens. Hopefully they’ll keep me on.” When asked if DioGuardi would be back next year, Simon Cowell told TV Guide Magazine, “I would imagine so, but the only say I have is about Ryan, Randy and Paula. I’ve always made it clear that I wouldn’t like to do the show without them. So that’s all I’m really concerned about.” At the Phoenix House’s 6th Annual Triumph for Teens Awards Gala in Beverly Hills on April 30, DioGuardi admits to us that the experience has been overwhelming, but says she is nothing but grateful. “My life has become extremely exciting and I am so excited for this opportunity,” she says. “I feel grateful to America that they let me grow and they let me find my groove on the show and that they were patient. And hopefully I haven’t disappointed them. It’s been a scary experience at times.” The songwriter with more than 100 hit singles to her name has already considered pairing up with this season’s Idols for some song writing sessions, but first on the agenda has been penning the winner’s song. She has submitted her entry and is now waiting to find out which song will be picked.

Kara is extremely talented but … she’s gotta go. 4 judges is too much … and as much grief as I give Paula Abdul, there’s no way the show can carry on without her. She is an integral part of AI as are Simon and Randy. The only thing that makes sense is to 86 the new girl. It was worth a try, it didn’t work … carry on. What do y’all think … should she stay or should she go?

I the show has been slowly declining… But it jumped the shark when the Idols lip synced their performance while dancing during the elimination show Disco week. This is a singing competition and the dance moves they were doing were not THAT difficult. Just my 2 cents…

  2. anna says:

Bu-Bye! You won’t be missed! and Jay are you CRAZY? The show is so not declining. This is the best season they have ever had

  3. Marisa says:

omg i will actually be sad.. i like her as a judge… ill take her actually good comments vs Paulas foolish randomness any day… i havent watched the show since the 2nd season but was glad i did this one…

  4. Bexx says:

I definitely agree with Marisa. I haven’t watched since like the third season. I love that Kara actually gives coherent answers. As much as I love Paula, I’d rather have Kara.

  5. Blah Girls! says:

Whatevs. It was her time to go. Maybe she’s a good judge and all but she’s no where near as hilarious as Paula!

  6. Steve says:

Paula is just loopy and makes no sense anymore, and Randy just uses “pitchy” and ‘feeling it” over and overy….at least Kara gave logical interesting imput!

I’ll miss her, she was most of the reason I gave this show another chance…too bad it still is going downhill lol

  7. Samantha says:

    I actually agree with Marisa.
I understand that AI wouldn’t be the same without Randy, Paula, or Simon…but I feel that Kara is the best judge because her comments truly help the contestants. Paula is too nice/doesn’t make sense, like Steve says Randy just uses ‘pitchy’ and ‘feeling it’, and Simon is condescending. Kara, on the other hand, says what she liked, didn’t like, and what to improve on. For people who actually listen to the critiques, I think Kara will be missed.

  8. Kate says:

Kara did a fantastic job! She will be missed!

  9. iamjoeybradley says:

OK. .. it seems AI has indeed jumped the shark ironically along w/ the the phrase “jumped the shark.” I’m gonna officially change “Jumped the Shark” to “Added a Judge!” Kara’s presence was obviously a shot for more ratings on the show that’s been bleeding viewers since 2007. I think a couple of shows w/ drunk Paula is what the show needs to boost ratings

  10. noooooooooo says:

kara is the only one with worthwhile comments. Get rid of crazy paula

  11. Karly says:

@ Jay – they lip sync every week it was just super noticable with the disco.

and whatever. i like kara on the show but if one had to go i vote her. it was bull when only two talked. it was never the two you wanted to hear from

  12. JJ says:

I wasn’t so crazy about Kara at first but she’s grown on me. Honestly, I think she’s much more relevent than Paula right now and her comments actually make sense. I disagree, I think the show could absolutely survive without Paula. Simon is the only one the show couldn’t survive without.

  13. Nadine says:

I agree with Anna that this season is one of the best yet. The contestants are getting increasingly talented with each season and really putting their spin on the songs. This season has an amazing group of people. They are all great. Last season was good too. Kara did a great job with the judging but I’m all about sticking with Randy, Paula and Simon. They are great. It wouldn’t be the same without them. And Paula’s comments are actually getting better. She’s very positive.

  14. it’s always risky to switch up the formula – while i have no probs with kara, when there are 4 judges there’s no majority rules and there’s just too many people judging. i thought she was going to take over for paula – but i guess not…

  15. Jordan says:

I did like her a bit but I won’t miss her. She might not go anywhere though because I did see reports a few weeks ago about Simon possibly leaving due to his contract being up at Idol and him doing Britans Got Talent and the X Factor. If Simon happens to leave after this season then the next one will be the last season.

  16. kate says:

I say Randy should go – he’s just a big useless load.

Kara actually gives specific, thoughtful critiques. Paula is enterainment value and Simon is the voice of truth and weight. Why the hell do they even pay Randy? I mean, for what?

  17. TJ says:

Kara annoyed the SHYT outta me… Glad to see her go.

  18. Annabelle says:

To my surprise, I really liked Kara and I’ll be sad to see her go. Throughout the season, I could’ve swore Paula and Simon was shown in the background mimicking her and being rude when she talked so this news doesn’t come as a shock to me. I thought the show has been on the decline because of lame contestants and lamer weekly themes. Kara is kinda the scapegoat for lower ratings, don’t you think?

  19. jenny says:

Meh, I won’t miss her. She kinda funks up the dynamic. While Paula doesn’t really give as good constructive criticism as Kara, it’s way more amusing to watch her try to form a coherent sentence.

  20. JD says:

Kara needs to stay. She is litterally the best judge on the show and knows more about the music industry than all of them and she can actually SING!
