I Wanna ‘Rock’

The TV Guide

Last night, David, his sister Eden and I were able to FINALLY see the amazingly fun new Broadway musical Rock of Ages. I had heard many good things about the show and made sure that seeing it at last was on my list of things to do on this trip to NYC. All I knew about the show was that it features some really great songs from the 80’s … but I was totally unprepared for the overall awesomeness of the show itself:

Without giving too much away, I will say that the musical adeptly ties together the lyrics from some of the 80’s biggest hits and manages to craft the tale of “a small town girl, living in a lonely world” and “a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit” making their dreams come true in the hey day of the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. Rock of Ages has truly become my new fave show. It’s chock full of hilarity and more 80’s references than you can shake a stick at. The crowd is able to sing along, dance in their seats and light up the little plastic LED lighters that were handed out for the ballad songs. Ingenious!! I already know I need to see this show at least one more time, if not many more times. After the show, we stuck around for a Q&A with the producers and had all of our questions about the show answered. It was really a very fun night:

David’s sister and I each drank Bartles & James wine coolers (a classic drink from the 80’s) at the intermission and I was able to meet Pink reader Joe who was sitting across the aisle from me. Hugh Jackman was also at last night’s performance but he was on the other side of the theater and I couldn’t get near him in time to get a pic. We had a blast tho … if you’re lookin’ for a kickass fun time on Broadway, Rock of Ages is the show for you. I promise, you will LOVE!!

I have send out much love and thanks to Jim, Matt and Leslie for taking such great care of us at the show last night.

The rest of the night was quiet … we came home and chilled out. We’re planning on meeting friends later tonight for some hangin’ out … our time in NYC is coming to a quick end. We’re just trying to enjoy as much as we can :)

I was so surprised to hear Constintine got Tony nomination. Was he good in the show? I always was amused by him on AI, but didn’t quite know where his special energy would fit in in the entertainment world. It seems he has found his calling!

Were there any Alabama Slammers on offer for drinks? Sex on the Beach or Rock Lobster shots??? Also did Hugh Jackman dance to the music?

  7. Nettie Says:

Glad to see that Constantine found a place to rock out at (and earn some cash). I always thought that Broadway would be the place for him – great performer, that guy. Glad you enjoyed it so much. Somehow don’t think it’ll be coming to London, bummer…

  8. Michelle Says:

Sounds cool…but sounds a lot like the British, “We Will Rock You” (which everyone should see!)

  9. Ian Says:

Just pre-ordered my soundtrack on Itunes!
