First Look: Britney Spears, ‘Radar’

"Confidence is a must/Cockiness is a plus"
May 20th, 2009

BritneySpears.com has just released the official artwork for Britney’s new single Radar … check it out:

To be totally honest, Radar isn’t my fave track off of Circus (nor was it a particular fave when it was first released on her album Blackout) but I do like it. It’s one of those songs that you think you don’t want to hear but when it comes on you end up dancing around and singing along with. The remix possibilities are numerous, it could be a big hit. I’m hoping they release something more adventurous as the next single … I know Phonography is a bonus track but it would make such a great single! Ah well, I guess we’ll have to see what comes next. For now, Radar should be blasting from our stereos this Summer … do you think this is good news?

  1. Lana Says:

They should have released a song from Circus, not a bonus track that was on a previous album. As long as the video turns out well, I think I will be happy. I am not thrilled with the single cover, either. It’s fugtastic.

  2. JeniLee Says:

ugh I hated this song on Blackout and I hate it on Circus too….bad bad choice!

Release Kill The Lights! Or Unusual You!

  3. Jadedkitten Says:

Soo ugly but radar is awesome song and really only her fans know it was on blackout so it’ll do well as long as the video is decent.

  4. Malcolm McCrae Says:

I love how you avoided the ugly cover. haha

I love this track! Its so addictive, and the tour choreography is amazing!

  5. Ammer Says:

I don’t understand the logic of record companies these days.

Release a “Circus” track. Not an old Blackout track which wasn’t very good in the first place.

“Unusual You” should have been the next single and it was well on it’s way. I hope it fails so they release “Unusual You” quickly after.

(I really don’t want Britney to fail with her new album, but re-releasing a crappy old track is fail-worthy)

  6. Chase Says:

For all of you that don’t know, Jive had a deal with Bloodshy and Avant that ‘Radar’ had to be a single off of Blackout. Since Britney was going through the mess during Blackout, ‘Radar’ was supposed to be the fourth single but the ideas got scrapped since Britney wasn’t capable of shooting a video for it. So, since that idea went down the toilet, Bloodshy and Avant never received part of the money deal since ‘Radar’ wasn’t a single. Jive either had to pay Bloodshy and Avant with their personal money or else they could potentially sue Jive. So, instead, Jive added ‘Radar’ to ‘Circus’ as a “bonus track” to release it for a future single. That’s why it was on ‘Circus’ and that’s why it is being released as a single because it was part of the deal the whole time. That’s why it was on Britney’s tour, after all. That being said, the single cover sucks and the song is OLD (I mean, it’s been out since ‘07) but hopefully the music video will be better and make me like LIKE the song again. ‘Unusual You’ has to be released as a single + video or else I will be very mad! LMFAO @ Trent for ‘Phonography’. : )

  7. Chase Says:

Oh, oops, I forgot to add that Bloodshy and Avant are the ones who produced this single. My bad.

  8. dalpowel Says:

Talk that sexy talk to me…

  9. Adriana Lima is glamorous Says:

The song is gorgeous, but that cover is UG-LY! Brit deserves better, somethin like what was done for this beauty.

  10. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Chase — thanks! I knew there was something about a deal for it to get rereleased with her new album but I wasn’t sure of the deets.

  11. Tom Says:

Unusual You sucks…USA Today said it best in their review: Songs to skip are Unusual You….Im happy with Radar..the tour performance made me love it…and the cover of the single reminds me of Toxic single cover…

  12. Tom Says:

Ps: MANNEQUIN FOR 5TH SINGLE! :p

  13. Cynthia Says:

I actually love Radar. I’m glad it’s coming out now, but I’m surprised that you and the others here don’t like it.

  14. Donna Says:

Has anyone heard the Britney’s imported song “Over to you” that should of been a single, it’s awesome

  15. Tom Says:

Over To You Now is a song that was supposed to be on In The Zone…

  16. Jaci Says:

I’m ok with Radar being the new single cuz I think people will really like it. I can see it being a nice summer hit. For the next single, I’m hoping for Blur or Shattered Glass.

  17. Jadedkitten Says:

@ tom unusual you is amazing one of her best in fact.

  18. Liza Says:

Radar was one of my favorites on Blackout! I don’t like the cover art.

  19. nicole Says:

as much as i loved Radar – its more so one of those songs that they can add on to a video at the end – and still release as a single. that way they could still release a better single off circus & still give radar air play.
and as usual – her single art bloooows – im tellin you, her people lack effort.

  20. Veronica Says:

When I first saw the picture of the album I thought it was JEWEL!

  21. Alex Says:

PHONOGRAPHY is hot, i love unusual you.. damn britney just pull a freakin’ beyonce and make everything a damn single!! and video too, seriously i wouldn’t mind that, i didn’t like it when beyonce did it cuz she’s annoying to me :)

  22. Annie Says:

They left off so many good tracks off Circus: Phonography, Amnesia, Quicksand. All of these would have been great 4th singles. Jive was trying too hard to do “sweet, poppy Britney” and should have just gone all out like they did on Blackout.

Still, I’m glad Radar is the next choice. I don’t think it’ll do well at all, but it could have been so much worse, like having Kill The Lights or Mannequin

  23. Nikki Says:

radar is a good song and its gonna be a great single… it rocked on the tour!!

  24. Alex Says:

    1. OK, I love Britney and all, but the artwork SUCKS… what bothers me the most is that font they picked for “radar”… I mean, SERIOUSLY?! the only font worse than that would’ve been Comic Sans… and that’s saying too much. As someone said, the design people lack effort, I could’ve done a better job in 10 minutes, really.

    2. “Radar” is a nice song, there are other songs on the album which are single-material too, but I don’t mind “Radar”, it’s cool.

    3. Did I miss anything? why is everyone assuming she’ll release a 5th single? most of the times she has only released 4 singles from each album….. ?

  25. tOnnY Says:

I Love radar, it’s my fav song off of Blackout, it’s amazing and i’m glad it’s being released but the artwork is fugly, way too much pink, pink = hot
    too much pink = ewww
PS. i want Unusual you to be the next single if there’s one :D

  26. Malcolm McCrae Says:

    @Alex
    Agree
    Agree
Because now a days its normal for an artist to release more than 4 singles from an album and promote the album for years. The only thing people dont get is that Britney is still kinda stuck in the old ages when it comes to stuff like this. lol I would love for her to pull a “beyonce” (even though 50 cent did it first) and make a video for all her singles…but thats not gunna happen.

  27. Janelle Says:

I agree with Trent – I used to not like Radar, but it just kinda was an earworm that made me really like it. Is something wrong with me? I don’t seem to like kill the lights at all…

  28. Donna Says:

Yeah, I think most of us agree that Britney’s best songs are her B sides. I think Britney should do an MTV unplugged next and maybe her and Lady Gaga could sing Quicksand together live. That’s also a really good song. An unplugged could put the whole lipsynching thing to rest too. If Courtney Love did it with Hole, Britney could! ;)

  29. la princesa Says:

I didn’t mind Radar. The song that is getting on my nerve right now is “Break the Ice,” because it’s the only song that my 2 year old goddaughter wants to hear! AAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the time!

  30. BaldOuting.blogspot.com Says:

she should be going forward not backwards. release a new song, not an old one we don’t know about!

  31. testington Says:

that is one of the lamer songs on the album, and definetly one of the worst on the set list of her tour…unimpressive art work too…an odd miss-step

  32. JeniLee Says:

Agree Annie…the bonus tracks are great. I LOVE Trouble. Would have been a great single. Amnesia I love but I think is too bubblegum. And i love Quicksand and Rock Me In and Phonography!

  33. Alex Says:

@ Malcom I am glad you agree, the only song I don’t care for on that album is my baby lol they can disregard that one haha. But seriously I can see a video for every song, and who best to do it than Britney Queen of pop!!!

  34. EP Says:

Do you guys think that the picture somehow looks like Chris Crocker? lol Just saying…

  35. Lana Says:

They played Radar on Australian radio early last year after Break The Ice. It did pretty well but I don’t think it was released as an official single. So it will be interesting to see if they try and release it down here.

  36. Niki Says:

Radar was my favorite song on Blackout and I still really like it. Sounds like a mix of those who loathe it and those who like it. I love Brit so I’m hoping for the best with this single!

  37. blakeblake Says:

“Trouble” was a GREAT song released on the Japanese album version, and can be heard on her documentary that aired on MTV, that’s where I first heard it and fell in love with it, I wish dearly it would be her next single.

  38. Jake Says:

I loved Radar on Blackout & the updated version on Circus rocks as well so I am very happy even though I’ll hear it all over the radio and it’s been at the top of my itunes playlist for years xD I’m routing for Unusual You to be released, though I can’t imagine BritBrit releasing a slow song anymore…

  39. steven Says:

Radar was my favorite song off of Radar too, but by the time Circus came out I skipped it to listen to the other bonus tracks. I do think non-fans will love Radar though bc they haven’t heard it, and I think the video could be really cool. Phonography has a cool beat but I think the lyrics suck and it is basically Digital Get Down by NSYNC. Love Me In is a rockin song. Why does no one love it like I do? :)

I agree with all the Unusual You fans. I love that song and it puts me in a really good mood. I think it would be radio-friendly but still unique. Mannequin, though one of my favorites, would probably flop on radio bc it is sooo dark and hard to understand. I think Lace and Leather would have been a good release too. It is funky and catchy as hell.

  40. steven Says:

    oops meant “rock me in”
also, i need to go out and listen to trouble. i missed out on that one i suppose.
    peace out britney lovers.

  41. J Says:

Unusual You & Radar were both produced by Bloodshy & Avant – Piece of Me as well (Toxic, we all know too). So maybe Radar was held off because of Piece of Me being the track they produced was released.

I reckon Bloodshy & Avant might make a deal for when they produce it has to be released as a single, and if so i don’t blame them. They continue to make hit after hit. However i believe Unusual You showcased their ability to make such wonderful music – Britney too. I really hope Unusual You gets released after or together almost.

Even the iTunes Bonus Track, Trouble, which you received when you Pre-Ordered, also produced by them, should have been on the original track-listing. Trouble is a great song – better than Womanizer & def on par with Gimme More – referencing them because its one of those “Trouble, trouble, trouble… Gimme Gimme More, Womanizer, Womanizer, Womanizer. songs.

  42. Jonathan Says:

I thought Radar was one of only three songs from Blackout I really, genuinely liked. I hated the weird remix from Circus. Bloodshy and Avant are simply the best!

  43. Lulu Says:

I was JUST humming this song…. lol :) Love it, though I’m not a fan of the pink artwork… meh.

  44. Eden Says:

In New Zealand where i live, this song was allready a single It played on the radio and everything! and it played all the time to the point i got kind sick of it. Unusual You or Phonograhy would be better! We need somthing fresh!!

  45. Heather Says:

@Steven I love rock me in!
The bird and the bee wrote that song and they’re a really good band

  46. meh Says:

ugh they should’ve picked another song, it’s an average song at best. This song was already released as a single in NZ last year. Phonography is great, but too bad it’s just a bonus song. Perhaps ‘Kill the Lights’?

  47. Jessica Says:

Radar is good, I’m hoping for Unusual You or Kill The Lights next :)

  48. medicchick Says:

ooohhh how about MmmmPapi?? LOL JK, yeah Radar definately not one of my faves either.

  49. sarah Says:

    hi Trent!

I think she says ‘perkiness is a plus’, not cockiness!! why would cockiness ever be a plus

  50. Jackie Says:

I think Mannequin needs to be her next single — it’s def got that radio song and it’s infectious as hell.

  51. Jackie Says:

    *sound, not song. oops!

  52. Anne Says:

Actually Sarah Trent has it right. The lyrics are
    “Confidence is a must/Cockiness is a plus”

  53. Alex Says:

    @Alex (the other one haha)

I think Malcolm was responding to my comment (labeled as “Alex” May 20th, 2009 at 4:12 pm) :P because of the 3 comments I made, he also gave 3 answers.

However, I agree with you, “My baby” sucks! haha and so does “Blur”, I just don’t like them.

I think most of the album could be a single: Kill The Lights, Shattered Glass, Lace and Leather and even……. Mmm Papi!! *gasp* LOL! I know it’s sooo tacky but I won’t deny it… it IS very catchy!

  54. RoyalT Says:

@ JeniLee & BlakeBlake – I totally agree that TROUBLE should be the next single. It’s one of the best songs on the album in my opinion, right up there with If U Seek Amy and Circus!

  55. Matt Says:

Yes! I love ‘Trouble’ and think it could do well! Although, I’d be satisfied with ‘Phonography’ or ‘Kill the Lights’ if another single were to be released.
