Geez, that second sentence is all messed up (drank too much Corona today). It should read “hency why married women are termed a matron of honor rather than maid of honor”

Perhaps she is honorary because I believe tradition says only non-married/divorced women can have the maid prefix (bridesmaid) or suffix (maid of honor). Hence why I married women how is terms a matron of honor instead of a maid of honor. Thus, by tradition, a bridesmaid should not have any prior marriages and/or divorces. A truly DUMB and antiquated notion, but possibly why she is considered honorary.
