After finding success in Orange County, New York City, Atlanta and New Jersey, Bravo TV has just announced today that the network in in development of a new Real Housewives series set in our Nation’s capital of Washington DC. There was some talk earlier this month that Bravo was lookin’ to expand the franchise to Beverly Hills, CA (and that still may happen) but they have officially announced today that The Real Housewives of Washington DC is the next project in development. Here is the full text of the just issued press release:

Today, Bravo announced that a spin-off of its hit docu-series franchise “The Real Housewives,” is in development, this time set in the influential metropolitan region of Washington, D.C. The announcement was made by Frances Berwick, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Bravo Media. “We’re tapping personalities who are among Washington D.C.’s influential players, cultural connoisseurs, fashion sophisticates and philanthropic leaders – the people who rub elbows with the most prominent people in the country and easily move in the city’s diverse political and social circles,” said Berwick. A place for power and politics, Bravo is scouting the D.C. area to identify the city’s alluring and discriminating residents, those women who have their pulse on the most important cultural events, political galas, gallery openings and fundraisers in Washington society. These leading members of D.C. society are in the know and comfortable discussing everything from the economy to high fashion. They are the talk of the town in the most powerful city in the world. Bravo has tapped Half Yard Productions to develop this project.
Oh man … you just know that DC wives know how to bring the drama. To be honest, it really doesn’t matter where they set the series as long as they find the right people to feature on the show. That said, the wives of politicians should be an interesting group of folks to watch … but really, how much drama can come from the wife of a currently elected official? Is that even smart for one’s political future? I hope Bravo doesn’t give up on the Beverly Hills idea … without having constituencies to worry about, those housewives are SURE to bring the drama. In regards to the current season set in New Jersey, I’m still warming up to the wives. I find it really weird that Bravo would cast housewives that are mostly related by family (and as we know, family is ‘as thick as thieves’). I am very much looking forward to the return to Atlanta … I’ve been missing my NeNe Leaks like crazy. But I digress. I’m down with the idea of DC Housewives, are you?

I agree, it really doesn’t matter where they take the show. I think its fun wondering where Bravo will go next with them. Its funny tho- Atlanta is my least fave- that Kim woman is a joke. And New York has by far the biggest drama. I really enjoy NJ because the women seem a little more down to earth.
Oh and who is excited for Top Chef Masters on Bravo!!!!! Looks freakin amazing. Best. Bravo. Show. EVER.
They should probably add a house husband to the mix… this is Gaytown, holla!
I am shocked that Bravo hasn’t come looking in Dallas yet. Big hair and bigger egos. Those Highland Park bitches don’t play!
Vada! totally!!!!!
I don’t think it will be wives of politicians as most do not live in the District but rather in their home states. Most politicians wives simply visit and do not take up residence in DC.
Should be interesting. Downtown DC’s a transient city, it’d be interesting to see what image Bravo chooses to air as “DC”. Hopefully they’ll include the ENTIRE metro area (including MD and VA) & not just DC itself as them housewives are spread out everywhere. There should be some real drama!!!
What about The Real Housewives of Philadelphia?!?!?! Hello?!?!
I agree with Marge. Most politicians wives don’t live in DC or Maryland or Virginia for that matter. They are going to have to find crazy-a housewives that are just in the political loop.
YES!!! The more real housewives, the better! I love that’s it’s going to be in my town!
