'Basterd' Brad does 'Inglourious' promo
Brangelina Invade The Cannes Film Festival

Angelina Jolie has joined her pseudo-hubby Brad Pitt in France for the Cannes Film Festival as the couple were spotted trying to sneak their way in for a quiet dinner last night. Earlier today, Brad was on hand for a photocall in order to promote his new film Inglourious Basterds which was directed by Quentin Tarantino and also stars Eli Roth, Diane Krueger and more. Here is a pic of Brangelina at Cannes last night and then a couple of pics from Brad‘s appearance at today’s photocall:

U.S. director Quentin Tarantino brings his eagerly awaited World War Two movie “Inglourious Basterds” to the Cannes film festival on Wednesday, with Brad Pitt adding some star power to the red carpet. The movie, which borrows its title from Italian director Enzo Castellari’s 1978 picture “Inglorious Bastards,” is one of 20 entries in the main competition. Tarantino, a favorite in the French Riviera resort, won the coveted Palme d’Or in 1994 with “Pulp Fiction,” and rushed to have his latest movie ready in time to present to the jury. It has been in the works for more than 10 years. “I like that it’s the power of the cinema that fights the Nazis,” Tarantino said in production notes distributed in Cannes before the movie’s world premiere. Pitt’s expected presence will be welcome by many of the thousands of reporters in Cannes, where the world’s biggest film festival is in its second week. It ends with a prize ceremony on Sunday. While critics say the quality of the main selection of films has been generally high, the absence of many A-list stars and celebrities has starved Cannes of some of its usual buzz. Inglourious Basterds is described as a revenge story, a recurring theme at this year’s festival with Hong Kong’s Johnnie To presenting “Vengeance” in the main competition and several more films revolving around retribution. Tarantino’s film is set in the first year of the German occupation of France, where character Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the execution of her family at the hands of a Nazi colonel. Elsewhere in Europe, Pitt’s character Aldo Raine forms a group of Jewish-American soldiers to wreak revenge on German forces. Diane Kruger plays an undercover agent on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich, and eventually the separate strands converge.

Cannes ain’t a party until Brangelina roll into town. I don’t believe that Ange has any films that will be screened at the film festival but it looks like Brad is happy to take up the spotlight again. After all of the big award nominations he received last year for his work in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (and his eventual disappointment at losing every single one of those nominations), I suspect he is anxious to get back into contention for new awards. Will Inglourious Basterds be the film that will eventually lead to Oscar gold? I doubt it … but at least Brad looks like he’s having fun pretending.

'Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell will star
ABC Picks Up The Remake Of ‘V’

More remake news to impart today … and for me, this is the best news ever! ABC announced its Fall line-up yesterday and revealed that they have officially picked up the remake of the 80′s sci-fi TV movie/mini-series/series V for air later this year. Now, I know that many of you may be unfamiliar with V but those of you who do know what I’m talking about surely remember what a freaking awesome TV series it was. V told the story of aliens from outer space called the Visitors who come to Earth in search of our friendship as well as our help in obtaining “a mineral that is common and abundant on Earth” (in return they offer the cure for Cancer among other technological gifts) … but after we welcome them with open arms, a small number of people find out that the Visitors have come to our planet for more nefarious reasons and form a Resistance to battle them for control of our planet:

Oh man … I loved this show so much! The original TV movie aired in 1983 and then the mini-series and eventual series aired in 84-85. I am thrilled that ABC has decided to pick up this remake and that Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost has been cast as a lead in the series. Now, depending on what you may or may not know about the season finale of Lost that aired last week, this news might be a bit spoilerish for you … but never fear, according to Entertainment Weekly, Mitchell will be appearing again in future eps of Lost:

ABC [announced] that it has picked up a reboot of the camptastic ’80s thriller V and that Lost heroine Elizabeth Mitchell is a full-time castmember. Translation: She will not be returning to Lost as a series regular. However, before you go declaring Juliet DOA from last week’s detonated hydrogen bomb, I should point out that this piece of scoop comes with a big but attached: Mitchell’s Lost days are not done. Multiple sources confirm that the actress is expected to appear in an unspecified number of episodes next season, so it’s entirely possible Juliet survived Jughead and her absence will be explained in another way. (Check out Doc Jensen’s column this Wednesday for a comprehensive Juliet theorypalooza.)

Woot! Not only is one of my fave TV series getting a rebooted revamp but it will be lead by a truly amazing actress in Elizabeth Mitchell. AND THE GOOD NEWS DOESN’T STOP THERE … there are 2 preview clips from V that are available to watch online. After the jump, check them out in full …

ATTENTION: 'DANCING WITH THE STARS' SPOILER ALERT WARNING
America Crowns A New ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Champion

Last night, the results were in … and a new Dancing with the Stars champion was crowned on live TV. I understand there was much debate between the final two contestants as to which one would win the crown and in the end, I believe, the most consistent contestant won … beating out the runner-up by less than 1%:

So as not to spoil the fun for those of you who have yet to watch the finale ep, I’ll keep the reveal behind the cut. But the winner was on hand here in NYC live this morning to show off the DWTS championship trophy and give the first interview as winner — after the jump, find out who it was …

Let's hear it for the boy!
Chace Crawford Signs On To Star In The Remake Of ‘Footloose’

After much speculation that Zac Efron would be chosen as the lead in the remake of the classic (and totally fabulous) 80′s film Footloose (about a big city boy who is forced to live in a small town that outlaws dancing and who ends up teaching those small town folks that dancing is A-OK all while romancing the preacher’s wild child daughter) it has just been announced that Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford has been cast as the film’s lead. Apparently, Zac is trying to move away from “musicals” and passed on the film, leaving the door wide open for Chace to snag the role (and our hearts). In celebration of this news, Pink reader Ethan created a fun poster which I’ll post here along with the full text of the press release issued by Paramount Pictures:

Paramount Pictures announced today that Chace Crawford will play the lead role of Ren McCormack in the film “Footloose,” which will be produced and directed by Kenny Ortega. Over the course of his 30-year career, Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer Ortega has worked with superstars Madonna, Michael Jackson, Kiss, Cher, and Diana Ross. He choreographed the classic “Dirty Dancing” and, most recently, directed all three “High School Musical” films. The hugely successful trilogy has broken numerous records including “High School Musical 3: Senior Year’s” record opening for a song-and-dance film grossing $42 million in its first weekend. The film will be produced by the highly successful team of Craig Zadan (a producer of the original “Footloose” in 1984) and Neil Meron. Together, Zadan and Meron produced the blockbuster “Hairspray” and the critically acclaimed “Chicago,” which was the first musical in 34 years to win the top honor of Best Picture Oscar at the 2002 Academy Awards. The film will also be produced by Dylan Sellers (“Agent Cody Banks”). Academy Award-nominated Susannah Grant (“Erin Brockovich”) wrote the recently green-lit screenplay. Crawford is best known to audiences worldwide for his role on the hit series “Gossip Girl.” He is currently starring in Joel Schumacher’s drama “Twelve” along with Emma Roberts and 50 Cent. Crawford is repped by Eric Podwall and CAA. Production on the movie is set to begin shooting in March 2010.

OMG … I LOOOOOOOVE Footloose!! Altho I am not a big fan of “remakes”, I think that sometimes they can be successful. I understand that ABC will be airing a remake of the fantastic 80′s sci-fi TV series V this Fall (more on that later) and now Footloose … I think both of these remakes can be really great. Now we need to find out who will play the wild child preacher’s daughter. I’ve heard that Hayden Panettiere has been considered but someone also mentioned Miley Cyrus‘s name (which I’m not too keen on). This movie is so rich with fun scenes, I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. They better keep the big dancing in the barn scene … and they better make sure all those acrobatic dance moves are kept intact — even if it means they have to cast a body double (just like they did for Kevin Bacon in the original). I am sooooo excited about this. Any Footloose fans out there? What do y’all think?
