Robert Pattison Dazzles The Crowd In Cannes

Broad daylight
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Robert Pattinson, who we learned yesterday has made his way to Nice, France for the Cannes Film Festival, was on hand earlier today for a bright, sunny photocall for The Twilight Saga: New Moon … here are a few photos:

I mean … c’mon … what else is there to say … the hair, those eyes, that lip licking … now that’s a way to sell a movie that hasn’t even been finished yet. I don’t expect any other New Mooners will make their way to Cannes to do any promo … it looks to me like R.Pattz has got it all taken care of.

Mario Lopez Throws Out The Ceremonial First Pitch For The LA Dodgers

And looks good doing so
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Mario Lopez, ex-Saved By the Bell star and current host of Extra! TV, was on hand at Dodgers Stadium last night to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Dodgers game against the New York Mets. Not only did Mario get to hit a few balls and throw the first pitch but he was also COACHED by legendary Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorta! Here are a few pics from last night’s game:

The Dodgers went on to win last night’s game in extra innings with a score of 3-2. The really cool thing about going to Dodgers games (outside the fun food and the exciting play) is the chance to see celebs on the mound before games to throw out the first pitch. I understand that Matthew McConaughey will be on hand to throw out the first pitch at tomorrow night’s game. I am very much looking forward to the coming Summer (when David and I will stay in LA for the entire time) so that we can attend more Dodgers games. It’s a shame I missed seeing Mario in person … he is lookin’ pret-ty good in that Dodgers uniform.

Pug Dilton Get Smoochy In France

Not for the weak of stomach
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Paris Hilton and her newest beau Doug Reinhardt have made their way to Nice, France to partake of the festivities at the Cannes Film Festival … altho neither one of them has anything significant at all do with the film industry. They do, however, have much experience with socializing, wining & dining and public displays of affection … as is evident by these photos of Pug Dilton sucking face on a yacht in the Cannes Harbor named Valletta:

Judging by the communicableness of Pug Dilton’s love for one another, do you suppose Valetta is French for Valtrex? Just kidding. I think.

Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To Las Vegas, 05.18.09

The TV Guide
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Yesterday was our only full day here in Las Vegas, NV and it was chock full of amazingness. After I finished writing yesterday, David and I met up with new friends Rob and Tamar for a bite to eat at Simon here in Palms Place Hotel and Spa. Potent and tasty drinks were paired with delicious sushi, Simon provided us with a sumptuous meal to enjoy while we all hung out together. Getting to meet and hang out with Rob and Tamar was long overdue … I was very happy that we finally got it together and got the chance to hang. They are both incredibly cool people, we had a blast. After our extended late lunch was finished, we parted ways to get ready for the NIN/JA show at The Pearl concert venue inside the Palms Hotel and Casino. While the NIN/JA 2009 Tour is made up of the full sets performed by Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction (for some reason Street Sweeper Social Club did not perform last night), the NIN portion of the show was been titled Wave Goodbye:

Most of the NIN merch features this logo which really hits home that this is the last time we’ll be seeing NIN on tour for some time. But the show must go on … and I was hellbent on enjoying the show without thinking about anything beyond the performance. It pains me to report this but it appears that the memory card on which I took all of my concert photos is damaged … I am unable to retrieve any of them (altho, I can still view them on my camera). I’ll have to wait until I get home at the end of the week to try and salvage the photos. Instead, here are a few photos that were posted to the official NIN website (and taken by Rob and Leo):

Man, where to begin. The show was spectacular … NIN is in fine form on this tour. They sounded great. And you can absolutely tell that Trent Reznor is very clearly happy. There is a joy in his performance that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. The mix of old and new songs gave the show a weird feeling … in that the classic songs from the early 90’s intermingled with more recent tracks evoked an entire range of emotion in me. I hadn’t heard Heresy performed in concert since 1995 (I think), it sounded kickass last night. I just had a blast. You can always judge the quality of an audience during NIN’s performance of Hurt. The Vegas crowd last night was respectful and appreciative of the performance, it all just came together to make a concert to remember. The best songs for me were The Fragile, Gave Up and their Adam Ant cover Physical (You’re So). Here is last night’s full setlist:

01 Somewhat Damaged
02 Terrible Lie
03 Heresy
04 March of the Pigs
05 The Frail
06 Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)
07 Metal
08 The Big Come Down
09 Gave Up
10 The Fragile
11 I Do Not Want This
12 The Downward Spiral
13 Wish
14 Survivalism
15 The Day The World Went Away
16 Physical
17 The Hand That Feeds
18 Head Like a Hole
19 Hurt

The band plays a full set but, for me, it ended way too soon. Trust me, I absolutely understand that TR is showing mad respect for Jane’s Addiction by letting them perform last but it felt so strange for NIN to finish their set and then wait for another band to perform. Jane’s was great but I was really there for NIN. I am so excited that I’ll get to see them again at the end of the month back home in Detroit but I ain’t gonna lie … I’m gonna be bummed as hell after that show. It may be the last NIN show I see for a very, very long time :(

After the show, David bailed and called it a night while I met up with Rob, Tamar and some of their friends. We did some partying in the Playboy Club at the top of The Palms and then spent time on the casino floor gambling (and losing) and drinking and hanging out (until the wee hours of the morning, OY!). It was a really fun night, all around. I urge y’all to see NIN while you can … this tour is not to be missed.

Our time here in Vegas is already over, we leave for NYC in a few hours (which is why today will be a shorter blogging day for me) and will be there for the rest of the week. Much love and thanks goes out to Larry Fink and the entire staff here at the Palms Place Hotel and Spa. They took such amazing care of us, I hope we’ll be able to come back and enjoy their hospitality again.

So … I’ll be working right up until we have to jet and then I’ll be comin’ atcha from the East Side.

Zachary Quinto Does German ‘GQ’ Magazine

Achtung!
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Zachary Quinto, star of Heroes and Star Trek, is featured in the new issue of German GQ Magazine in a photoshoot that has him lookin’ all James Bond (in his tux), all bad ass (on his motorcycle) and all Sylar (thanks to those trademark eyebrows) rolled into one hawt package. Here are a few pics from this shoot:

Unfortch I was unable to find the accompanying article/interview from the mag but since I got thru learning German in college by the skin of my teeth, I doubt I’d be able to decipher much from the piece. The official German GQ website does offer a behind the scenes video from this photoshoot which you can watch HERE. Now that Zachary is a bona fide movie star, I think we’ll be seeing much more of him in magazine photoshoots as the year progresses. While I like the snazzy duds, I’d like to put in a request for less clothing in any of his upcoming photoshoots … Chris Pine can’t be the only fine fella showin’ off some skin, right?

David Beckham & Wayne Rooney Campaign For The UK To Host The 2018 World Cup

Big Ballers
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Soccer stars David Beckham and Wayne Rooney were on hand at Wembley Stadium in London, England yesterday in order to promote the UK’s bid to be the host city for the 2018 World Cup Championship Match … tho, the UK’s bid also makes clear that they’d be just as happy to host the 2022 World Cup if their 2018 bid falls thru. Here are a few pics of Becks and Rooney at the stadium yesterday posing with scarves, face-painted children and a big ass soccer ball in order to entice the World Cup organizers to choose their city:

World Cup bid leaders will be stressing the quality of the stadiums, the fans in England and the economic benefits. They will also be at pains to avoid any suggestion that it is England’s turn to be hosts. Football Association chairman Lord Triesman, who is the bid chairman, stressed England’s infrastructure and the economic benefits of hosting the World Cup in 2018, or, if that bid is unsuccessful, in 2022. Triesman said: “We in England would be truly honoured to host the World Cup and welcome the world. We have first-class grounds. We’ve got good transport links, domestically and internationally. We’ve got excellent accommodation. A World Cup in England would be a truly memorable event – not only for our nation but for every nation. We’d extend a wonderful welcome to players and fans from across the world. Inside and outside our grounds, we’d share with them our love of the game and our sense of fair play. And they would enjoy our diverse culture – one that means England would provide a home-from-home welcome for every fan and player.” David Beckham, England’s most capped outfield player, said players across Europe admired the atmosphere apparent at stadiums in England. “There is no bigger support than our fans,” said the former captain. “The passion that’s shown in our country every time someone either puts an England shirt on or any time they play for their club, there are full stadiums everywhere. Every time that I played with some of the biggest players in the world – players like (Zinedine) Zidane and Ronaldo – one of the first questions that they all asked me is what is it like playing in England and how much they like the passion that the fans show. The passion does not just stop at Premiership level, it goes from Sunday League level and it goes all the way through every league that we’ve got up to the Premiership.” Lord Triesman also believes the passion for football in England is key to the bid. He added: “We believe that England can stage a fantastic festival of football, one that will engage the whole country and deliver positive change for football in England and across the world. “Now we must persuade our international friends and colleagues of our case. It’s easy to say, far less easy to do. Our starting point is England’s passion for football. It is our national sport, we have a strong football heritage which runs through every town and city. Every week hundreds of thousand of fans watch games and millions of people across the world and millions in this country – men women and children – play from pub sides to school teams to the FA Premier League and all of them -hundreds of million of worldwide know the FIFA World Cup is the global pinnacle of the game.

For some strange reason, some reports indicated that Prince William was also on hand for yesterday’s event but I couldn’t find any photos of the young prince at all … I guess those reports were wrong — or mebbe he was just hiding behind that soccer ball? In any event, I don’t expect that David Beckham will still be able to play soccer at the professional level when 2018 rolls around (despite what he may think) but it’s still very cool of him to use his starpower to help the cause. The World Cup Championship is the biggest soccer event in the world (and soccer, in turn, is arguably the biggest sport in the world) so it’s a big deal to host the World Cup. Good luck, England! Not that I have any stake in which city gets the Cup at all but on behalf of your Becksness, I hope you win your bid (or at least your runner-up bid).
