Zach Braff & Donald Faison Let The ‘CHiPs’ Fall Where They May

You have the right to remain funny
Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Here are a couple of hilarious photos of Scrubs co-stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison posing for a new photoshoot where they are portraying the characters Officer Jon Baker and Officer Francis Llewellyn Poncherello (better known as Ponch) from the 70’s TV series CHiPs … behold:

LOL. I’m not a Scrubs fan but I am happy to know that the show will be coming back for another season (their 9th) on ABC next year. I know a lot of folks, my BFF Sarah for example, love that show to death and swear by its comedy so I’m glad for their sakes the show will return. My guess is that this photoshoot will be for an outlet like Entertainment Weekly who publishes fun photos like this. I gotta say, Zach and Donald make a pretty good version of Jon and Ponch. I wonder if they will be posing as other famous TV duos in other photoshoots.

Chris Hemsworth Has Been Cast As Thor

Nikki Finke reports the 'Star Trek' bit player will play his own superhero
Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Nikki Finke, who has been giving us the dirt on the rumored cancellation of the Gossip Girl spin-off and the US remake of Absolutely Fabulous, is reporting that Marvel Comics has decided to cast Aussie newcomer (at least, around these here parts) Chris Hemsworth (George Kirk in JJ Abrams’s Star Trek) in their big screen movie adaptation of Thor. While many fans have been lobbying hardcore for Alexander Skarsgård (who stars in True Blood and to many is the living embodiment of the Viking God comic book hero) to play the role, Finke reports that Hemsworth has swooped in and secured the part:

Talk about spot-on casting. I’ve just learned that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and director Kenneth Branagh have chosen their THOR — and it’s Chris Hemsworth, who can currently be seen as “George Kirk” in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot and also just snagged the lead in Red Dawn for MGM on Thursday. The gorgeous 25-year-old Australian is a virtual unknown here in the United States. But he played “Kim Hyde” on 171 episodes of Home and Away, the successful Oz television series chronicling the lives and loves of the residents of Summer Bay, a small coastal town in New South Wales, Australia. Hemsworth is repped by partner and co-founder William Ward’s ROAR management and Eileen Feldman’s agency. Marvel Studios has scheduled Thor for a June 17, 2011, release. The way Chris Hemsworth got the part of Thor is one of those great Hollywood backstories that happens only once in a blue moon. Ward had found Chris during one of the manager’s many scouting trips to Australia. Ward brought him to Los Angeles and really put him out there to casting directors and production executives. As for the major agencies, I hear CAA passed on the meeting, Endeavor took it but passed on repping him, and ICM was interested but dragged their feet. But Eileen Feldman got his appeal immediately. Chris had read for the part of Thor but wasn’t given a test because a casting director had nixed him early on. I’m told Chris’ younger brother Liam (who’s also a ROAR client) then tested for the role of Thor, but Marvel’s Kevin Feige passed. Then, after a conversation with Ward (”You’ve got to reconsider Chris, he’s your guy”), Feige decided to let Chris read again. And once Marvel put him on tape, it was “Oh my god”. Branagh came to town last week and saw the Chris test and made the final casting decision today … Thor’s character, in a nutshell is the Viking god of thunder, who wears a winged helmet and speaks in King James Bible-style Olde English, as well as referring to himself in the third person as “the Odinson.” He wields a magic hammer, and can “fly” by throwing the hammer really hard and hanging on to it. Not only is here the movie Thor, but he’ll also be interacting later with the likes of Iron Man and Hulk. Marvel tapping Kenneth Branagh was a smart move to elevate the pic since the English helmer has so much experience with Shakespearean battle movies and has the ability to balance action with convincingly delivered old English.

I knew from the first moment I saw Hemsworth in Star Trek (he plays Kirk’s father in the movie’s opening) that he would go on to bigger roles. He deffo has that star quality and I was sure, at least looks wise, that he’d be able to get starring roles in future movies. It’s quite a feat to get cast as the lead in a big budget superhero movie, especially one that will tie in with a movie like Iron Man (both Iron Man and Thor are members of the superhero conglomerate The Avengers). I, too, thought that Skarsgård was a shoe-in for the role … but Hollywood is a wacky place. I think Chris Hemsworth can be Thor. I guess we’ll eventually find out.

Blasphemous Ways

The TV Guide
Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Last night, in a rare occurance, David and I went out with a couple of friends for dinner and a movie. Darion had just returned from a business trip to San Diego, CA and we are on our way to Las Vegas, NV and NYC for the week so yesterday was pretty much our day to get together and hang. We met up with Josh for a night of sushi and a movie and had a great time. The movie du jour was Angels & Demons:

Since I was marginally entertained by The Da Vinci Code, I was up for another fun night of adventure and symbology. For the most part, I enjoyed the movie … but only because I had to suspend all belief in what was being shown on the screen and went with the story. The treat of blowing up Vatican City after assassinating the Pope is a bold plot … and they did make it as exciting as they could but because I figured out who the bad guy was early on, I wasn’t all that pulled in by the intrigue. It’s an entertaining movie, it was a fun night out but it’s not something that I’d need to see again (like, say, Star Trek).

After a run-in with Academy Award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (random, I know) at the drug store after the movie (I had to pick up last minute supplies for our trip this week), we all called it a night and that was that.

David and I leave for Vegas in a few hours where we will be staying at the very swank Palms Hotel & Casino. I’m very excited to see NIN in concert tomorrow night so … it’s gonna be a good week.

Hot Dude Of The Week: Brad W.

Weekend Hotness
Sunday, May 17th, 2009

It is, once again, that hallowed time when we celebrate and feast our eyes on the weekly Hot Dude of the Week as Weekend Hotness time is upon us this fine day. Altho I’ve been pretty much all wrapped up in hockey these past couple of weeks (and plan to still be in the coming weeks leading up to the hopeful success of the Detroit Red Wings), I’ve come upon a photo of a young football player chap named Brad W. who looks to be a great candidate for the Hot Dude of the Week. Say hello to Brad W:

Click HERE to see more pictures of Brad W.
One might think that since I’m not a fan of playing sports that I’m not a sports fan over all … and they’d be right. But there are some sports that I really enjoy watching (hockey, baseball) but not necessarily playing. And in the end, any endeavor that features big strapping dudes like Brad W. running around and slamming into one another for sport is A-OK in my book :) Oh yes, I’m all for it.

And don’t forget, the 10th Anniversary celebration for All American Guys will take place at Eleven here in West Hollywood, CA on Saturday June 6 and I suggest those of you interested come out for the event … I’ll deffo be there and it would be great to see YOU there too. Click HERE for more deets and make your plans to party with the Hot Dudes of the Week … in the flesh!

Kylie Minogue Performs In Morocco

Preview of her upcoming North American tour?
Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Kylie Minogue, who shocked her US fans by announcing earlier this month that she would be embarking on her FIRST EVER North American tour this Fall, was on hand for a dazzling performance at the 8th Mawazine Festival in Rabat, Morocco this weekend and managed to pull out all the stops for this one-off show. Decked out in sparkling black and gold, Kylie showed the Moroccans why she is loved and adored the world over. Might this performance be but a preview of what she’s got in store for her US and Canadian fans when she FINALLY brings her tour to North America this Fall?

Kylie Minogue made sure it was all eyes on her at a concert in Morocco by performing in a sparkly, over-the-top outfit. The singer, who wowed the screaming fans with her famous hits, looked to be in her element as she performed in a dramatic costume, which included a blue cut-out bodysuit with arm length gloves, and a similar one in black. The singer, who was performing at 8th Mawazine Festival in Rabat Morocco yesterday, stepped out onto an equally elaborate stage decorated in glitter and bold shades of gold-coloured speakers. Kylie, has become known for her over the top stage performances. And now her American fans will get to experience a piece of the action now that the Australian singer is launching her first U.S. tour later this year. While it will be short — six cities — she’s hoping to reconnect with her small but loyal fan base. When asked why she decided to tour in the United States now, she said: “I’ve wanted to for ages, for the longest time, and it just never was feasible to do it. And I was tired of hearing myself say that. I’m doing it simply to do it, it’s not to promote anything, it’s not on the back of anything else, and it’s nice to have that freedom to create my show.” Kylie, who has been dating Spanish model Andres Velencoso for the past seven months, seems to be having the best time of her life these days. In a recent interview with Hello! Magazine she gushes about her life and new relationship, “It’s definitely true that I’m happier than ever before,” she said. “I feel relaxed, happy, excited and just totally content with my life. I’m having a good time. I really am. All my life I’ve worked very hard and I’ve always talked about trying to find a balance. Last year was very tough, I’m just chilling out, being me, having a personal life. I’m just doing things I never would give myself time to do. I’m finding my balance and I’m giving myself space just to be me. I feel good about everything in my life at the moment. I’m a very, very happy girl.”

She has the BEST attitude and I am just over the moon that we fans here in the US will finally be able to see her perform live and in person on our side of the pond. Being able to see one of her huge stage concert performances in London, England last Summer was one of the concert high points of my life. Now that I will be able to see her here, I’m just geeked beyond words. I love these new photos from Morocco … the stage costume looks entirely new. Not that I’m complaining but I’m a bit worried that her US tour will just be a pared down version of her last tour (the one I saw in London last Summer). Seeing this new costume hints that she might come up with an almost entirely new show for her US tour. If I had a say, I’d love to see her pick the best numbers from her various tours and piece together a Greatest Hits short of show (ie. not just the songs but the performances from previous tours). I’m so excited … no matter what her show will look like, I know I’m gonna love every.second.of.it. Woot!!

Reese Witherspoon Takes Her Little ‘Cub’ For Some Baseball

Take me out to the ballpark
Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Last month we saw photos of Reese Witherspoon coaching her daughter and eldest child, Ava Elizabeth, on the softball diamond but it turns out that the athleticism in her children does not end there. Reese’s youngest child, Deacon Reese, fancies himself a baseball player. Here are a couple pics of Reese and Deacon at his Cubs Little League game here in SoCal this weekend:

While these pics are cute and all (especially that little Chicago Cubs uniform) I cannot get over how much older little Deacon looks. It wasn’t that long ago that he was still lookin’ babyish … and now he looks like a kid. They grow up fast, don’t they? We know that baseball isn’t Deacon’s only sport of choice … the little man also enjoys learning karate. With his dad Ryan Phillippe off at the Cannes Film Festival with his new lady Abbie Cornish, it’s up to mom Reese to show her support at the Little League games. These two make an adorable pair, don’t they?
