The Detroit Red Wings Defeat The Anaheim Ducks, Move On To The Western Conference Championship

It ain't called HockeyTown for nothin'
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Woot!!! It is my great honor to announce that the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 of their Stanley Cup playoff series to advance to the Western Conference Championship series. In a hard fought battle in the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI, the Red Wings outplayed and outlasted the Ducks in today’s game:

Daniel Cleary’s tiebreaking goal with 3 minutes left lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night and sent the defending Stanley Cup champions back to the Western Conference finals. Anaheim’s Jonas Hiller made 36 saves, and Chris Osgood stopped 24 shots for the defending champions, who couldn’t protect an early two-goal lead. Jiri Hudler, Darren Helm and Mikael Samuelsson scored for the Red Wings, who will next face the Chicago Blackhawks in a matchup of Original Six teams. Teemu Selanne and Corey Perry cut into deficits and Bobby Perry made it 3-all at 7:37 of the third.

Much props goes out to the Anaheim Ducks for their amazing play this series. Jonas Hiller is an excellent goalie and he should be very proud of his work this series. But, hellz yeah, I knew my D-Town homies were gonna secure the win at home today. My good friend Mark was in the Joe Louis Arena for Game 7 and he carried all of my love to the Detroit Red Wings today. Congrats guys!! You absolutely deserve the win. Next up, the Wings will face the Chicago Blackhawks for the Western Conference Championship. The winner of that series will battle for the Stanley Cup. Go Wings!! Woot!!!!

First Look: ‘The Road’

The dreary book FINALLY becomes a dreary movie
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

One of my fave books in recent years The Road by Cormac McCarthy (author of No Country for Old Men) is finally going to make it to the big screen. A film version of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel starring Viggo Mortensen has already been shot and finished and was originally set for release last year but due to worries about the film’s ability to win awards, it was shelved for release this year. At long last, a movie trailer has been released and we finally get our first look at the film’s footage … but first, here is what the movie poster looks like:

If you’ve read the book, then you know how amazing it is in its chilling simplicity. No book has moved/disturbed me as much as The Road has. I love the book so much, I gave away as many copies as I could to my friends because I just wanted them to read it for themselves. It’s so good. Judging by the new trailer, it looks like the heart and soul of the novel has been kept intact for the big screen. After the jump, check out the movie trailer for The Road in full …

‘Public Enemies’ Releases A New Batch Of Movie Posters

Johnny! Christian! Marion!
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard are among the big names starring in this Summer’s cops & robbers film Public Enemies which tells the tale of the notorious crime wave that gripped the nation back in 1930 … making pseudo-celebrities out of criminals like John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. Here is our first look at a new movie poster which features Johnny Depp, who stars as John Dillinger in the film:

I used to be fascinated with the notion that bank robbers could become celebrities in this country but never quite could believe it … of course, this was in the days before the Internet and Reality TV took over the public consciousness. Now I can understand how something like that could happen very easily … tho, it still amazes me that this celeb status could so easily spring up back in the 1930s. I can’t wait to see this film … I hear it’s going to be amazing. After the jump, check out two more posters from Public Enemies — one which features Christian Bale (as Melvin Purvis) and one which features Marion Cotillard (as Billie Frechette) …

Jennifer Lopez Gets A Visit From The Hubby On The Set Of Her New Film

LopAnthony in da hiz
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Marc Anthony, like the good doting husband that he is, paid a visit to his beautiful wife Jennifer Lopez on the Beverly Hills, CA set of her new movie The Back-Up Plan which began filming this week. Here are pics of La Diva Latina and her metrosexual-lookin’ husband holding hands yesterday afternoon:

Woot! I love that Jennifer Lopez is finally gettin’ her booty back to work after birthin’ those babies last year. She’s been away for far too long. And even tho I’m not the biggest Marc Anthony fan in the world, I think it’s really sweet that he swung by the set to visit with the missus. Yesterday we saw pics of hubby Freddie Prinze, Jr. doing the same for Sarah Michelle Gellar. Here’s hoping we’ll get to see more of J. Lo on the scene now that she’s back to work again … but Marc can stay home next time ;)

Hilary Duff Lights Up The Empire State Building

Paints the town red ... in light
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Last week, Kylie Minogue was on hand for a special ceremony at the Empire State Building where she flipped the switch to light up the famed skyscraper in honor of DKMS Linked Against Leukemia charity and this week, it’s Hilary Duff’s turn. Earlier today, she was on hand for an event where she was allowed to flip the switch to light up the Empire State Building in honor of the 24th Annual AIDS Walk New York Event which gets underway this coming Sunday morning. Here are a few pics of Hilary at today’s lighting event and some info from the event’s press release:

Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and AIDS Walk New York (AWNY) announced today that the Empire State Building’s famed floodlights will soon honor the 24th annual AIDS Walk New York. On Thursday evening, May 14, beginning at dusk, the world-famous spire will glow red to kick off the AIDS Walk weekend. Special guest Hilary Duff will lead a Lighting Ceremony in the lobby of the Empire State Building. The event will begin at 12 p.m. and last for about 15 minutes. During the ceremony, Ms. Duff will throw a prop switch to illuminate a scale model of the Empire State Building in the building’s lobby for members of the media and invited guests. On Sunday morning, May 17, Ms. Duff will also co-host the AIDS Walk Opening Ceremony in Central Park, and will then walk with her team “Hilary Duff — Walk with Love.” Additionally, she also appears in public service announcements and a variety of other AIDS Walk communications focusing on prevention and encouraging New Yorkers to register for the event. “In tough times, it’s even more important for people to get involved,” says Duff. She continues, “Everyone should find a cause they believe in whether it is something in your local community or something as big a global issue as AIDS.” “From sunset to midnight on Thursday, New Yorkers will see the solid red color, synonymous with AIDS awareness, beaming from the building. The red lights will serve as a reminder that AIDS is still a matter of great urgency in New York and throughout the United States,” said Dr. Marjorie J. Hill, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of GMHC, the world’s first AIDS organization and AIDS Walk New York’s primary beneficiary. “The lighting will also honor hundreds of thousands of walkers and donors who have participated in the AIDS Walk over the event’s 24-year history,” said Craig R. Miller, Founder & Producer of AIDS Walk New York. “As one of the largest, most esteemed, and most diverse public events in New York City, we are so proud that the Empire State Building has again chosen to recognize and promote the vital work of GMHC and AIDS Walk New York,” Miller added. This is the third year the event has been so-honored.

I am thrilled that Hilary Duff has teamed up to participate with this year’s AIDS Walk New York. I’ve always been impressed with her previous charity work and this time is no exception. She seems so committed to working for important charities and events that really could use her help. You may recall that she appeared in the Think Before You Speak PSA for GLSEN to help educate kids about using harmful language in school. Even at a young age, she understands that her help and association with these events will help inspire others to participate themselves. Hil D. is my girl. I love her for all the amazing charity work she continues to do :)

Filming Begins On Season 2 Of ‘The City’

Here we go again
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Earlier today we learned the AMAZING news that Laguna Beach alum Kristin Cavallari will be taking over the star position on the next season of The Hills (since Lauren LC Conrad has announced that she is going into Reality TV retirement) and now we get to see a few photos from the East Coast where the second season of The City has started up production. Here are a few photos of Whitney Port and Olivia Palmero (who had a bit of wonky eye action going on) shooting one of their famous cafe scenes for the show:

A little bird told me that things may change DRASTICALLY on the second season of the show. I’m hearing that Whitney may be getting a new job … at a magazine … which would make The City even more like The Hills (as you may recall, the first few seasons of The Hills centered around work at Teen Vogue magazine). Also, I believe they may be introducing a new love interest. HMMMM. I still like watching The City … but I prolly won’t love it as much as I’ll love the Cavallari-centered new version of The Hills. Wee!! I feel like a 16 year old girl again … er … I mean not again … oh, you know what I mean :)

‘Lost’: Chain Of Fools

The TV Guide
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

After my überexciting night out on Tuesday, I decided to kick it at home and take care of some stuff around the house and watch some TV. As pretty much everyone is well aware, the season 5 finale of Lost aired last night and altho I was pretty lukewarm about the show this entire season, I was a bit excited to see how things would be wrapping up this time around. I have to confess, tho, that the 2-hours of “action” that we got last night was far from entertaining … to me. Beware — the rest of this post may contain spoilery info for those of you who have yet to watch the ep:

I’ve long since abandoned the hope that a new “shocking” revelation on Lost would leave me slackjawed and gasping OMGs over and over again. It’s been a long time since that happened to me from watching the show. But I did have some hope that mebbe there would be some new info in last night’s finale that might ignite the spark of excitement again. I must say, there were some really great bits and some surprises but, in the end, I was left with that Why should I care? feeling that has been nagging me all season long. I may be alone on this but I was really unimpressed with Jacob’s entire contribution to the finale. From his intro at the beginning to his death (?) at the end, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes every time he did something. Showing up off the island in the lives of some of the principal characters was … expected … and not at all interesting. I was very surprised to see that Locke’s dead boy was inside that box (I’m still puzzling over where the ghost Locke came from) and I am intrigued by Ilana and her group of unknown characters but, overall, I was just left with that meh feeling. It’s sad that Juliette had to die but even sadder that she had to die cuz a chain flying thru the air wrapped itself around her body sooo tightly that she had to be pulled to her death by electromagnetic forces … well not entirely to her death, she still lived long enough to pound a rock against the H bomb to make the screen go all white. As she was hanging on for dear life (and as those chains unbelievably gripped her body all the while) I was so over it. Bomb or no bomb I had had it. The show used to really entertain me, now it only gives me reason to complain … and that is not fun. I know I’ll continue to watch the show next season only to see how the whole damn thing ends but … now you see why I gave up recapping the show. I know many of you LOVE Lost still and I don’t want to ruin that fun.

After Lost was finished, I started watching The Net starring Sandra Bullock on Cinemax. I just love that movie … I saw it in the theater back in 1995. The Internet was so scary to some back then … little did they know what it would turn into all these years later. About an hour into the movie the power went out … all over West Hollywood. I guess that was my cue to go to bed. I’m gonna have to find The Net on cable again, that movie must be watched in its entirety again … and soon!!

PS: The Detroit Red Wings take on the Anaheim Ducks at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI for Game 7 of their Stanley Cup playoff series. I’m sending all my love to the boys in red to get ‘er done tonight!! Go Wings!!!
