Betty White Takes A Stroll In Beverly Hills

Thank you for being alive
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Betty White was snapped yesterday making her way out of a medical center in Beverly Hills, CA lookin’ about as faboo as can be. In the wake of Bea Arthur’s sad passing a little over a week ago and Estelle Getty’s passing last year, I think we need to cherish the Golden Girls that we have left among us. Rue McClanahan lives in NYC but isn’t seen much in public (tho, I understand she is in good health). When last we saw Betty out and about she was visiting this medical center last March. She looks great, I am assuming that her doctor visits are merely check-ups to ensure that she is doing well:

I am still very sad that we have lost half of the Golden Girls. They are such special women, I wish they could live forever. It’s really heartening to see Betty White looking so well, being so active. I hope she and Rue remain in good health for many, many years to come. Stay Golden, ladies … we love you!!

More Photos Of Megan Fox In The New Issue Of ‘Elle’ Magazine

B/W
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Yesterday we got our first look at Megan Fox on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Elle magazine and today we get to enjoy a bit more from the mag. Elle.com has yet to publish their full interview with Megan Fox but, in addition to offering a few more photos, they have posted a few questions and answers from her coverstory interview. Here is one of the newly released photos and her interview answers:

On getting down to 99 pounds while shooting Jennifer’s Body: “I decided I would turn myself into a zombie. I got super, super skinny, stayed out of the sun for four months, and got to where I was losing my eyelashes and my eyebrows.”

On wanting to keep the status of her relationship private: “No, I do not want to comment on my relationship, period. It’s private. It doesn’t belong to the world. It’s mine. It’s Brian’s. It’s not for other people to judge and talk about and write about in In Touch Weekly.”

On the theory that her sudden success emasculated Green: “He doesn’t want to be my date…he’s a man. He has an ego. He went through this already, and he doesn’t want it back–It was horrible. So he has sympathy. He’s the one person that I know that if I’m struggling and everything’s getting crazy, I can call.”

On misbehaving while growing up: “I was grounded for all my childhood. Not most–all. I wasn’t doing anything particularly crazy. I just never appreciated authority figures preaching to me.”

Still, these interview answers do not provide too much insight into Miss Fox but I’m hoping we’ll get more meat when the full interview is released. After the jump, check out two more photos of Megan from her Elle magazine photoshoot …

Beyoncé Gets ‘Fierce’ In Paris, France

Très Jolie!
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Beyoncé, who is currently on tour with her I Am … Sasha Fierce Tour, performed at the Bercy in Paris, France last night and she looked absolutely fabulous up on the concert stage. Because I will be seeing B live in concert for the first time EVER this July, I am trying to stay away from tour spoilers so that I can be totally surprised when I see the show for myself on the Diva Stage this Summer. But … here are a few not too spoilery pics of Beyoncé doing her thang on stage in Paris last night:

OMG … I am so excited. I understand that Beyoncé tears the shizz up in concert and I am very anxious to see her in action for myself. These pics look A-MAZING! While I still think the whole Sasha Fierce thing is a bit silly, I think it really works in a concert setting. I have never seen Beyoncé perform live so … I’m stoked. Get here Beyoncé, we’re waiting!!

Trent Reznor Answers Questions In A New Fan-Generated Interview

"I may be happy and engaged but I can still be a prick" -- Trent Reznor
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Last month Nine Inch Nails frontman/creator Trent Reznor participated in an interview for DIGG.com where he answered the 10 most popular questions as voted on by DIGG visitors. Apparently, fans who frequent the forums at NIN.com and Echoing the Sound were not really happy with the questions that were asked and they began voicing their displeasure with the interview on those messageboards. Reznor decided to reach out to those fans and asked them to come up with their own questions for him to answer and agreed to participate in a new interview. The interview was conducted via webcam (a first for Reznor) last night and has been posted online for download (it hasn’t yet been encoded for streaming online). I’ve been able to watch the interview and will pass along some of what I think are the most interesting highlights … including TR’s first public acknowledgment of his recent engagement:

Trent was asked about the possibility of releasing any unreleased music and he revealed that there isn’t an archive of unreleased NIN tracks for him to release. He mentioned that if an artist does have a library of unreleased tracks like that then they should release them … he then suggested that Prince release some of his unreleased music because, according to TR, his last few albums “have sucked”. Reznor then laughed off his comment and said, “I may be happy and engaged but I can still be a prick.” This is the first public acknowledgment that Trent has made about his engagement to West Indian Girl singer Mariqueen Maandig. As a very private person, I know it’s a big deal for TR to talk about his private life like this … my guess is that he mentioned it before the question could be asked of him. I was lucky enough to meet the beautiful Mariqeen at the Star Trek premiere here in Hollywood, CA last week when Trent introduced her to me:

Believe me, nothing would’ve pleased me more than to share their good news with the world but it was not my place to make any announcement. It was only after Mariqueen herself made the announcement online that I offered my public congratulations :)

Trent clarified that “Nine Inch Nails is not done” and that the hiatus to come after this year’s NIN/JA 2009 Tour is just so that he can be “stationary” for a while. He wants to ensure that NIN is a “precious thing” and putting it aside for a while will keep it from getting beat down to death with endless touring. He revealed that he doesn’t want to become a “parody” of himself and that he needs “to take a breath and reconnect” with himself. He then talks a bit about the style of the NIN/JA Tour setlist-wise and promises that there will be a few surprises (including cover songs). The entire interview is long and really interesting to watch, mainly because of TR’s very thoughtful answers. It can be downloaded HERE and I will post a streaming embed of it when it becomes available. The NIN/JA 2009 Tour starts this Friday night in Florida … who’s going?

UPDATE: After the jump, watch the video interview in full …

Ryan Reynolds Signs On To Appear In A Deadpool Movie

Spoiler Alert Warning?
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Ryan Reynolds, who currently stars in the new movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, has just signed on to appear in his own movie based on the Deadpool character. Depending on how you look at this news (and depending on whether or not you’ve seen X-Men Origins: Wolverine yet) this might come as a bit of a spoiler but considering the fact that Deadpool is a major character in the Marvel Comics canon, I suppose it really shouldn’t be a surprise that he would get his own movie. No release date or title has yet been announced but the LA Times is reporting (by way of Variety) that Reynolds has definitely signed on to do the film:

Ryan Reynolds WILL star in “Deadpool,” a spin-off for the character he played the character in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Talk about fate and fulfilling your destiny. True X-Men fan boys will recall that in the original Marvel Comics, Deadpool is described as a mix between “a Shar Pei and Ryan Reynolds.” The character is one of Marvel Comics’ X-Men universe’s most popular heroes. Deadpool is actually Wade Wilson, a terminally ill mercenary who gets that wacky Weapon X genetic alteration drill and becomes an indestructible half-crazy antihero. According to Variety, the film will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel. Did we mention that Fox is also working on a “Wolverine” sequel with the samurai storyline? Not enough X-Men for ya? Fox is also developing “Magneto,” a film about the X-Men villain and “X-Men: First Class.”

Considering that Wolverine made $87 million at the box office in its opening weekend, I was pretty sure that a new X-Men movie would be in the works … I hadn’t anticipated that it would be a Deadpool movie, tho. That said, having seen Deadpool’s portrayal in Wolverine, I can totally understand how there is more about the character that needs to be explored. I am really excited about the Magneto movie … he is deffo one of my fave X-Men, particularly because of the complexity of his character. He’s a bad guy, technically, but a good guy in some respects as well. It looks like FOX is really lookin’ to dip into the X-Men pool in order siphon out as much money as they can. If the movie’s are done right, they can be really great … but if they keep churning out mediocre fare, I think they might just kill off a franchise way before its time.

Maine Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage!

Becomes the 5th State in the US to legalize same-sex marriage
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Woot!! Another amazing day for marriage equality here in the United States of America! After the Maine State Congress earlier this week passed a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in their State, Governor John Baldacci has today announced that he has signed the bill into law — making Maine the 5th State in the US to legalize same-sex marriage and the second (after Vermont) to do so by State legislature rather than by court order:

Gov. John Baldacci on Wednesday signed a gay marriage bill passed just hours before by the Maine Legislature. Baldacci made his announcement within an hour of the Maine Senate giving its final approval to LD 1020. The Senate voted 21-13 in favor of the measure after a short debate. “In the past, I opposed gay marriage while supporting the idea of civil unions,” Baldacci said in a written statement. “I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage.” The House of Representatives gave its approval on a 89-57 vote Tuesday. The governor’s signature makes Maine the fifth state to allow gay marriage. In his statement, Baldacci also acknowledged that his signature may not be the last word on the issue. Opponents have vowed to begin the process of a “people’s veto” to send the matter to referendum. “Just as the Maine Constitution demands that all people are treated equally under the law, it also guarantees that the ultimate political power in the State belongs to the people,” Baldacci said. “While the good and just people of Maine may determine this issue, my responsibility is to uphold the Constitution and do, as best as possible, what is right. I believe that signing this legislation is the right thing to do.” Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa have been ordered by the courts to do so, and Connecticut later enacted a law codifying the court ruling. Vermont in April passed a gay marriage law over the governor’s objection.

OMG … Happy, Happy Day!!! It’s like the floodgates of equality and justice have opened up in this country! I cannot believe that so many States have legalized same-sex marriage in this country already … and in such a short period of time! It’s almost as if a new State legalizes the practice on a weekly basis (if only that were really the case). I listened to some of the impassioned debate in the Maine House of Representatives this week on this matter and I was almost brought to tears by the amazing things that many of the legislators spoke before the House. Yes, there was much bigotry and hatred spoken in the oral debate by some but the overwhelmingly positive remarks really filled me with hope and optimism that one day (hopefully soon) marriage equality will be made available for all US citizens. Thank you Maine! Thank you for taking the lead along with Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont in allowing the citizens of your States the same access to marriage that all heterosexual couples enjoy in this country. These 5 states will forever be remembered as the birthplace of marriage equality in the United States of America. Again … thank you!
