‘Ugly Betty’ Gets Renewed For A 4th Season
Last January we learned some troublesome news about ABC’s TV series Ugly Betty that made it seem like the network has lost faith in the show and that it might headed for an early end. Today, to the relief of many fans, we learn that things are still going well for UB now that ABC has decided to renew the show for a 4th season next year:

This just in: ABC confirms that “Ugly Betty” will be back for another season. News comes from actor Michael Urie — the ever-fabulous Marc St. James — via his official Twitter on Thursday morning: “Ugly Betty gets official season 4 pick up!!! Whohoo!” This follows the most excellent news that Christopher Gorham will be reprising his role as Henry before the third season ends. Sorry Matt, we’re Team Henry all the way.
And Twitter strikes again … seriously, it seems as if all of the late-breaking information these days is coming straight from the horse’s mouth (which is one of the reasons why I love Twitter). Despite the worry caused by ABC’s actions earlier this year, I had a feeling that Ugly Betty would be back for at least one more season. I personally stopped watching the show before this current season got underway but I am glad to know that the show is coming back. I know many people who love the show and should be excited that the series will be back for more.
Additionally, TV Guide is reporting that Heroes will, too, return with another season next year … but unlike previous seasons, NBC is ordering fewer eps of the series:
Heroes’ life span will be a little shorter next season. NBC plans to cut the number of episodes of its superhero drama from 25 this season to 18 to 20 in its fourth season, Ad Age reports. The reasons for the cutback are legion: Though the show’s latest episodes have reinvigorated many fans, a series of complicated and wide-ranging storylines cost the show ratings in Season 2 and earlier this season. Also, NBC will have five fewer prime-time hours to fill in 2009-10 season, thanks to Jay Leno’s new hour-long program at 10 pm weeknights. And other networks are also experimenting with condensed seasons: ABC’s Lost has kept to 16 or 17 episodes in recent seasons, and CBS’s Harper’s Island has a 13-episode format that could be repeated (with a new setting and cast) if the murder mystery succeeds with viewers. Though Heroes debuted to strong ratings in 2006, since the 2007-08 writers strike its viewership has slipped to about 7.7 million viewers on average, four million fewer than it earned before the work stoppage, according to Nielsen.
Heroes is another show, unfortunately, that I have sorta given up on. I still DVR the show and have a box full of eps but I haven’t watched the show in months. There have been so many false starts and so many skewed storylines that I totally lost interest in all of the confusion. But, I am happy that the show will return next season. I deffo plan to watch the eps I have saved on my DVR. Hopefully there’ll be something there to re-inspire me to watch again. Do any of y’all still watch Ugly Betty and Heroes? Are you happy the shows are coming back?

YAY! I love Ugly Betty :) I still watch Heroes but compared to shows like LOST…it’s not doing it for me anymore. But I still love Betty just as much

I honestly love betty but i forgot about her! she comes on when Bones is on and we pushed her aside. Seriously, everything I watch comes on FOX and USA. The other networks are boring. Heroes is great when nothing else is on but i like skipping it a few weeks and watching a bunch of episodes at once

I still love Heroes, it went through a bit of a rough patch but it is slowly starting to get good again this season and I am sad it will be shortened for season 4 :(

I love Ugly Betty because they don’t have a limit on the ridiculousness that can happen. I can get completely lost in the World of Betty. And I love her.
Just like the Mika song goes…
Big Girl, You Are Beautiful!!
And America Ferrera embodies Betty in such a great way.

So thrilled about Ugly Betty staying on! I’m tired of these networks replacing the good shows with crap alternatives :-/

Yes still love Heroes, and am glad it’ll be back next season, but I fear it will be their last :( Trent, did you know Heroes hottie Adrian Pasdar is married to Dixie Chick Natalie Maines (who I believe is a fan of yours)?

I am still a fan of Heroes, and I admit it struggled for a while there. I’m glad I stuck with it, though, because it really has come full circle. Watch the shows soon because it really has become great again!

I love me some UB! I can hardly wait for TiVo to get the new ep of it every week (although it has been on hiatus for quite a while now). I’m on team Matt. Henry is scum!!!!!! Oh and Mark and Amanda are totes the new Jack and Karen (like Jack and Karen Lite).

This is why I, too, adore Twitter! It is a wonderful way of getting late breaking news from all valued sources. What great news, I <3 both of these shows.

I stopped watching UB a while back as well, but I’m happy for the fans that it’s been renewed. Heroes has really hit it’s stride again this volume, so I’m very pleased to see it’s coming back for a fourth season. I actually think the shortened episode order is a very good idea. The Brits do it with most of their shows (comedies like Extras and the Office tended to have 6 episodes only, dramas like Spooks have 12), and high quality US shows like Dexter and True Blood are the same. It keeps the shows fresh and fast paced and it’s easier for the audience to stay engaged. Given the poor ratings performance of so many network shows this season, I think many other shows would benefit from this approach as well.

The last few episodes of Heroes have been completely redeeming. You HAVE to watch them Trent. I guarantee your faith will be restored!

There was a moment this season on Ugly Betty when I thought the show was really going to start going somewhere. She moved out on her own and was living with Amanda, things were good. Then her father had a heart attack and she was right back home… I still watch but it isn’t as good.
I still watch Heroes too b/c bad Heroes is better than a lot of things on TV. I have hopes that next season will be really good.

One positive thing about the recession is that it seems a lot of shows have gotten better. I suppose b/c writers know their heads are on the chopping block like never before. Shows like Lost, Heroes, Desperate Housewives, and Ugly Betty seemed to have turned their dismal plots around. And, it seems execs aren’t throwing TV’ shows at a dart board anymore hoping for a success. I get the feeling that a more crafted writing style is the new situation like Showtime’s “The United States of Tara,” and ABC’s “Better off Ted.” We’ll just forget about NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.” I don’t know about ya’ll but when other people try to do humor like “The Office,” it comes across as boring and unoriginal.

OMG i’m so excited for UB to be coming back anothe season … this show is one of the few I totally look forward to when it airs … cant wait till May 7th .. when it returns again from this sill hiatius …
as for Heroes … yeah same here … actually just two nights ago we deleted all the unwatched Heroes – the whole current season from our DVR … we were running out of space … we’ll get the box set for the season and catch up in time for next season … sometimes it’s better to just watch them all at once
April 24th, 2009 at 7:52 am
I had alot of Hero episodes on PVR, and decided to try to watch 1 one night just to gain a little space… slow night… ended up watching all of them until 3 a.m. in the morning. Well worth it!

April 24th, 2009 at 10:24 am

April 24th, 2009 at 12:11 pm

April 24th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
I still watch both shows. I’m glad they’re coming back.
April 24th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
