‘The Hills’ Will Return Sans Lauren Conrad
MTV has just announced that The Hills will return for a sixth season but will do so WITHOUT protagonist star Lauren LC Conrad. LC has announced that she is finished with the show and is ready to move on to other projects but, clearly, the rest of the cast and MTV do not feel the same. Newlyweds Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt will likely be the new focus for the show as the rest of the cast (along with “fresh faces”) will supplement the show:
It’s official: The Hills is returning this fall without star Lauren Conrad, MTV announced today. Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, Spencer Pratt, Brody Jenner, Stephanie Pratt, Lo Bosworth, Justin Bobby and “fresh faces,” will be back, the network teases in a statement. “Spencer and Heidi will be newlyweds, so the stakes are higher than ever before for the two to make things work,” adds MTV. “Viewers will find out life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before.” Earlier this month, Montag — who wed on Saturday — told MTV News she’d “miss” Conrad — but not too much. “I just don’t know if we need her,” she said. “I know she hasn’t been wanting to be doing this for a while, and [the life she really leads] is not on camera. So I think it’s a closing chapter for her. I’m sure she’ll have fun and success.” When asked if The Hills could survive without Conrad, Patridge told Us: “Yes, we’re like family to our audience.” Conrad — who is designing a new line for Kohl’s — told Us in March that the decision to leave was “bittersweet. “I’ve spent the last five years making every decision be about the show,” she added.
I think pretty much everyone saw this coming. The Hills has been performing pretty well lately so it makes sense that the show would carry on … even without LC at the helm, I think we can pretty much expect more of the same in the coming season. Truth be told, my love for the show has cooled in recent months so I’m not really chomping at the bit for new eps. My first thought was that Speidi would be getting their own show but it seems smarter to just make them the central focus of an already successful series. What do y’all think … will The Hills be the same without LC? Would you be interested in watching Speidi take center stage in the coming season?

The show will suck without LC and if it just focuses on Speidi. I can’t really stand them with as much they are on it now. I most def won’t be watching. I barely watch it now. It isn’t as good as it used to be.

i still cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone pays attention to any of those people. famous for what? being the biggest whiner, i guess. the only parts i catch are clips on “the soup”, and those are just really sad and pathetic.

I hate to admit it but I love watching Speidi fight and freak out on each other so i will totally watch an LC-less season. I’ll miss Lauren but really she should move to the City!

I can’t see the show going on without LC. I think she is the glue that held that show together. She is sweet and always around to help a friend in need. That’s why I watched it. I really didnt pay any mind to Speidi they kinda got old fast :).
I hope LC will change her mind BUT i understand life must go on and I wish her the best in all she does. I will not be watching the show.

I’ve been watching but quite half-heartedly. I’ll be done after this season since I don’t have any interest in watching a show centered around Speidi. Also, what about Audrina’s new show? I won’t be watching that either, but I’m curious how they’re going to do that if she’s still on The Hills. And really, does anyone think of the cast as “family”?! They’re great fodder for jokes but that’s about it.

@Bloopus – I heard that too, I kinda hope its true cause we all know that Kristin would deff bring the drama! Just like what happened with Laguna Beach but I guess we’ll have to wait and see…

How greedy of MTV…they should know better. It won’t be “The Hills” without Laureen, I don’t see the point. Heidi and Spencer ruined that show. They are so fake I can NOT stand either of them. Heidi should be on a soap with her heavy makeup and fake hair every scene…give me a break! So over it!

I had heard that Kristin would be taking over. I suspect that is why she was at the Speidi wedding. It was kind of like an introduction to her being part of the show. At least that is what I think anyways (:

i have to agree with most…the hills has always served as a guilty pleasure for me. im an LC fan for sure, so im not sure how id feel about a season without her (and a focus on speidi would suck; ive never been a fan.) but if kristin was on, i would watch.

Sadly, I still watch “The Hills” if I’m bored on Monday nights, but I always turn it or leave the room when Speidi is on because they are so FAKE and annoying. I won’t even watch it out of boredom now.

Ugh, I refuse to watch the show without Lauren. I am so over Spencer and Heidi and have been for a long time, because they always seem so fake. However, I almost died last night when Ashley kept saying Heidi looked so different from pictures in high school…too much plastic surgery!

I thought the only reason why Kristin took over the show was because Lauren and the rest of the gang graduated? It only featured seniors and then they went off to go to college so MTV picked the previous Juniors who were now Seniors to be in the limelight and the college kids got featured here and there. Anyways, I prefer LC much over Kristin. Kristin was silly and just overall annoying with her absurdities. Kristin was going to be on for 6 episodes but I doubt she’ll take over because she originally got offered her own spin-off show but turned it down to be a “serious” actress and then her career deflated… and it should stay that way.

The other people are just too ridiculous to watch long-term without Lauren. Though I would absolutely tune in for Kristin C. anyday/anytime if they anchored the season around her instead of Speidi/Brody/Audrina.

Ugh, just the thought of an entire show that centers on Heidi and Spencer is nauseating. Personally I think the show should make a graceful exit now that Lauren is leaving. Despite her limited screen time, she is still the heart of the show IMO. Just think of how many characters have the tag “Lauren’s friend”. With Whitney gone too, there is just no reason to care. Now if Kristin C. showed up, I would definitely check that out, out of curiosity, but otherwise – I am actually looking forward to life without The Hills. It used to be bad in a campy way but now with all of ridiculous Heidi and Spencer stuff, it’s just plain BAD all around. R.I.P.

I always DVR The Hills and I totally fast forward through anything Speidi related. They create drama to stay on camera and I don’t believe a word that comes out of their mouths. Long live the days of LC!

If K-Cav comes to the show, I will for SURE watch it. To be honest, I wanted Kristin on the hills since the start. She is so much more fun to watch than LC and she is gorgeous. Looking forward to this!

booooo. if i will even sit through and stomach and episode of the hills it would be the other dramz NOT involving speidi. will definitely NOT be watching if it revolves around them.. since their drama is the saaaame shiz over and over. seriously. i did NOT watch all last season.. and on the season premier i watched becoz the cousin was watching and i was like dude.. seriously? Well The Hills without Lauren could work, but it just seems ridiculous. They are trying to make us believe that this show is “reality TV”. Yet they want to make the fakest persons on the show the center of it? These people are ALL money driven…I mean Lo is staying after LC,her BFF, leaves? Lo and Lauren live together! Are we suppose to just forget that little fact?
This sitcom will probably end on a wrong note a few seasons from now, like Laguna Beach did. MTV will try to squeeze out every penny out of this one…

She’s been friends with that whole lot of Lauren hanger-ons for a long time now, so it does make sense if She comes on the show. If She does, I wont watch it.

Oh dear God can’t they just kill this show already? I watched the first 2 seasons and then it became so crazy I couldn’t do it anymore… LC seems to be making money on her own without MTV now so I understand why she was like see ya later… but the others still need to get paid so obviously they are gonna hang on as long as they can… I don’t see it lasting too much longer though… ther is only so much Speidi and JustinBobby any sane person can take!

I refuse to lower myself and further if the show will only be about Speidi. I could not stand to watch them nor do I think they deserve the attention. I believe since it is Lauren’s show, once she leaves, so should the show. Unfortunately, MTV wants a money grab and will continue to film the worst people possible. Oh well, I just won’t watch, and to whoever likes those two, enjoy.
