The May 11th episode of Gossip Girl is the big ep where the proposed new spin-off series based on the life of the young Lily van der Woodsen in the 80′s gets featured. In order to help kick off the new show, No Doubt has been enlisted to portray the fictional 80′s band called Snowed Out and will perform on the show via 80′s flashback. Saying Snowed Out out loud sounds like you’re saying No Doubt … which is actually kinda cool (thanks Alex). Yeah, it’s a bit confusing but the plan is to entice the viewer into wanting to see more of this new as yet untitled new show. Here is our first look at No Doubt as Snowed Out in the upcoming Gossip Girl ep titled Valley Girls:

May 11 is bound to be a really big day for our beloved Upper East Siders — not only are they getting a potential spin-off starring Brittany Snow and Krysten Ritter, but No Doubt is gracing the show with their SoCal presence. Well, sort of. Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont will play a fictional 1980s band called Snowed Out in the flashback-heavy hour. We come across the faux-strummers when a young Lily checks out her very first rock show with sister Carol. If all goes according to plan, the “Gossip Girl” spin-off and characters will be appearing on your TV weekly.
It’s funny how the No Doubt of the 80′s looks a lot like the No Doubt of the late 90′s. Nonetheless, I’m really looking forward to seeing the band on the show. I understand that they will be performing a cover of the Adam Ant song Stand and Deliver, which they recorded and gave away to fans who purchased VIP tickets to their upcoming tour. The May 11th ep of Gossip Girl will feature a whole lot more 80′sness than just No Doubt as a faux band. After the jump, check out a few promo photos released by The CW of some of the characters that will be featured on the upcoming GG spin-off series …

As we already know, Brittany Snow will play Lily Rhodes (who eventually becomes a van der Woodsen) and she will be spending a lot of time with her black sheep older sister Carol (played by Krysten Ritter). Lily and Carol‘s father Rich Rhodes will be played by Andrew McCarthy (who was a huge star in the 80′s) and Shiloh Fernandez will play one of Lily‘s various love interests (this one named Owen Campos) who she loves and leaves before eventually meeting Keith van der Woodsen in the future. Yeah, it’s an interesting idea for a TV series … but I’m still not sure it’ll necessarily work but, as I keep saying, I’m willing to give it a shot. As a huge fan of all things 80′s, I hope they do the decade justice. I guess we’ll see when the Valley Girls ep of Gossip Girl airs on The CW in a couple of weeks. Does any of this interest y’all? Do you think the new spin-off series will work?

I think the actual name of their fictional band is “Snowed Out” which, when said fast enough sounds like…
@Alex — OMG, I’m an idiot for getting the name wrong … Snowed Out = No Doubt is brilliant! Thanks for the clarification!
Dude, what’s Katy Perry doing in that second pic?
I wish they were setting this series in New York also! It doesn’t make sense to me that they moved it….
@b — I believe the series is set in LA, where young Lily spent her “wild days”
i am suuuuuuuch an idiot for not getting it.. LOVE IT!
haha snowed out, genious, im giggling like an idiot
I’m not a huge Gossip Girl fan, but I’m excited about this. I watched season 1 and Lily interested me way more than the kids. And Andrew McCarthy! OMG…I’m gonna go watch Mannequin to prepare myself. lol
Suddenly I’m interested… This makes me want to catch up on GG as well. I think this could work.
I think if they don’t try to make it a Gossip Girl in the 80′s and just be a fabulous show set in all the glory of the 80′s it’ll work. I’m pumped that Andrew McCarthy is in it.
Lily and Rufus bore me together but Lily on her own will probably lead me to check this out.
@ben: that’s not katy perry. is it krysten ritter? i dont know her real name but she’s been in gilmore girls, veronica mars and confessions of a shopaholic.. my friends got her confused with katy perry as well.
I think this show could work. I like that the spin-off is not taking any characters out of the original show.
hey, Im still mad at Andrew McCarthy for stealing Molly Ringwald from Ducky ( Jon Cryer) in pretty in pink, and I liked Mannequin 2 better( even with that creepy foreign guy with the hairy mole, they should have had the guy from designing women come back for the sequel), I admit I’ve never seen gossip girl but the whole 80′s thing is making me want to check out this new spinoff show. I love the 80′s too trent( I watched every I love the 80′s installment on vh1)
I like to watch Veronica Mars episodes as well Lost. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
