‘Melrose Place’ Alum Thomas Calabro Signs On For The Redux
Becomes the second original castmember to return

Yesterday we learned the amazing news that original Melrose Place album Laura Leighton (who played the wickedly fun Sydney Andrews Mancini Andrews) has signed on to reprise her role in the upcoming Melrose redux for The CW this Fall and today we learn that alum Thomas Calabro has also agreed to reprise his role for the redux as well. As you may recall, Calabro played Dr. Michael Mancini who was also a wickedly fun character on the show and was the only actor that appeared in every season of the original Melrose Place series run:

First Sydney, now Dr. Michael Mancini: The CW’s new Melrose Place has yet another familiar face joining the cast. Thomas Calabro will be reprising his role as Dr. Mancini, the good guy-turned-cheater, a source tells PEOPLE. Calabro, who appeared every season in the original Melrose, will be the father to David Patterson, played by Shaun Sipos. No other details were revealed.

As far as Melrose bad guys go, Dr. Michael Mancini is the best of them … altho his character started out as a nice guy in season one (when all of the characters on the show were nice … and boring), Dr. Mancini turned into Mr. Hyde almost overnight. In fact, Calabro‘s character was even married to Sydney Andrews for a short while on the show after she stole him away from her big sister Jane Andrews who was happily married to him at the time. I fondly remember Sydney‘s wedding day to MichaelJane showed up, called her a bitch, ripped her wedding dress and threw her ass in the Melrose Place pool. If memory serves, the marriage didn’t last and Sydney was forced to start stripping become a prostitute to a Heidi Fleiss-like madam in order to pay her rent to stay at Melrose Place. Sigh. That’s good TV. Now, I didn’t watch Melrose in its final seasons so I have no idea if Michael Mancini became a father on or off the show. I do know that he was married to Jane, Sydney and Dr. Kimberly Shaw (played by Marica Cross) — and we all remember her, right?

And I believe there was some fraternization with Amanda Woodward (played by Heather Locklear) but I have no idea who his babymama is … but I guess we’ll find out when the revamped Melrose hits the airwaves this Fall. I must admit, I’m very excited that both Sydney (who, I’m told, died on the series but miraculously will still be alive for the revamp) and Michael Mancini are returning to the show. Are you excited too?

UPDATE: I’m hearing that when Laura Leighton‘s Sydney Andrews returns for the redux she will be the OWNER/Landlady of Melrose Place! Not a bad gig to come back from the dead for, eh?

HA! I agree….Trent, your quick recap makes me want to watch the whole series over again!

  3. ruthie says:

I recall Lisa Rinna driving off with a baby on board sign. Perhaps she’s back too?

  4. staci says:

he had tons o’ bitches. kelly rutherford (lily on gossip girl) played megan mancini the ex-prostitute (wasn’t she hired by kimberly or something cuz she couldn’t bang?). whoa damn repressed melrose place memories hahaha. oh man soapnet needs to start rerunning melrose like they did OG 90210!

  5. CB says:

@ruthie – Could this mean that Lisa’s pathetic attempts to be recast were successful? Did enough people honk at her poster board sign? Will her lips ever deflate?

  6. Mary says:

My memory is kind of hazy but I think Lisa Rinna’s character was trying to get pregnant to hold onto either her husband or Jack Wagner, but somehow Michael ended up being the father of the baby (can’t remember if they actually slept together or if it was through artificial insemination). Does this sound familiar to anyone else??? And SoapNet WAS running Melrose as of a few years ago — is it not on there anymore?

  7. JeniLee says:

@ Mary….nope soapnet lost the rights unfortunately :( I was ALMOST done with season 5 when it went off the air. I’m pissed. They better release the rest of the DVDs!

@ Trent. He was actually the ONLY actor to appear in all seasons. Billy left in the very beginning of the last season. Jane left then returned later. So she was a close second.

  8. Dana says:

Oh god!!! I loved Melrose place!!! Never missed an episode of it! I loved it when Kyle and Amanda were a couple! I was bummed when they put Peter and Amanda back together.

  9. Dave says:

DAVID PATTERSON is the son of JAKE HANSON — played by GRANT SHOW. He shows up twice in the original series. I don’t know how Michael acts as his father, but the character is the biological son of Jake. Jake found out about him in season one, when the boy was four and a half.

  10. Michelina says:

OH please spare me Lisa Rinna I really can’t stand her at all !! If she shows on this show I will not watch it she makes me ill!! Sorry!!

I can barely remember much of it, but Matt Fielding was my favorite character – Didn’t have luck romance-wise & I often thought, “why have a gay character if he’s so bland?”, but that WAS how the writers wrote him & his love interests, wasn’t it? Hell, even when Matt was being abused storyline was so… boring.

Correct me if I’m wrong… But wasn’t Matt “killed” (off-screen) in the last season, & nobody noticed or cared? I’d stopped watching long before then but I’m sure I read it. I know Sydney died & if she’s coming back to the New Melrose Place, I guess Matt can too.

I might give this new show a sampling if it’s more in the 21st century (minority couples/realistic gays) cause once you’ve seen “Queer As Folk” & “The L Word”, anything else re: gay relationships is pretty vanilla.

THOMAS CALABRO – TOTALLY HOT DILF, yum yum yum I swear to God, i don’t even care that he’s exactly twice my age, i’ll turn into a dirty whore just to have sex with him.
