Gay Gardens
Not much to report on the personal front today … since the temps have been soaring into the 90s the past few days, David and I have been staying indoors behind shuttered windows just keeping to ourselves. I joked to David that we may have to start referring to our home as Gay Gardens since we’ve been kind of reclusive these last few days. The only downside to having so many large windows is that the sun amps up the heat inside our home all day long … we can’t even enjoy the beautiful sunshine when the temps get high cuz it makes our apartment get really hot. Instead, we’re hiding behind the shutters and curtains to keep the place cool … venturing out only at night. Hahahahah. Except for the animals and the craziness, we’re well on our way to turning into the crazy Jackie O. reclusive family members from Grey Gardens which, incidentally, I watched over the weekend … both the HBO movie version and the original documentary — both were superb and wholly fascinating:

To be honest, I’m OK with keepin’ things low this week … Davd and I fly out to Chicago this weekend for a few days to visit with my friends Sarah and Mark and to see another concert so I’m cool with keeping things quiet. I do want to get out and see some friends this week tho … it’s been far too long.
The plus side of all of this heat is that it’s the perfect weather for hanging out/in the pool! I might have to test the waters of our buliding’s pool this afternoon … HMMM, now where did I put my Speedo?

Don’t you have central air? I live in a big house with an open floorplan. My family room which faces west and gets all the sun is 2 stories tall with a wall of windows. We had to get the Hunter Douglas cell shades with a remote for the top ones. They pretty much stay closed all day long in the summer.

Don’t you have air-conditioning? Being an Aussie and living with 100′ heat for a lot of the year, I couldn’t live without a/c.

Hey Trent,
I hear you on the problems of heat. I LOVE both versions of Grey Gardens. It’s one of my very favorite stories! Stay cool and enjoy the pool for me!

Yeah!!! Chicago cannot wait to see you! Let me know if you need any scoop at all on the city. Funny enough, I was just in Detroit last weekend….

I totally watched this on Sunday too! It was fantastic. I really enjoyed it and these were some very facinating women. I liked how the made Jen T from Big Love Jackie O. It was a great show and I recommend it to everyone!

“I found this outfit to be the most appropriate for the day…and the skirt can also be worn as a cape…” my partner and I have been quoting the movie all week long to eachother!

TRENT!! I need your help. I have the Drew Barrymore Grey Gardens on my dvr, but would love to see the documentary before I see the original version. Do you know where I could find the original documentary? They aren’t showing it on HBO, are they? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

@Krissy — I know Amazon has the DVD of the documentary but I’m sure it can be found elsewhere online: http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGrey-Gardens-Beales-Criterion-Collection%2Fdp%2FB000E5LEVK%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Ddvd%26qid%3D1240346553%26sr%3D8-1&tag=pinkisthenewb-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325

Really? No comment about Miss California? For someone who spoke so much about No on Prop 8, I’m surprised at you completely ignoring this.
April 21st, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Don’t complain! It is dreary and cold in PA.
So we’ve been staying in for the opposite reason.
Finally saw Slumdog!! LOVED IT.
April 21st, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Confused, I guess Trent hasn’t mentioned the Miss California thing because Perez Hilton is involved.

Grey Gardens was SUPERB!!!! I was quite haunted by it actually. My Mom and I watched it together, and I think that made it more powerful of a story for me. I think Drew is amazing in averything she does and Jessica Lange… well… She is also just incredible!!!
Trent, what did you think of the HBO movie?
April 22nd, 2009 at 4:47 am
Trent, while in Chicago this coming weekend, you should check out the the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus show. ALL the details can be found at cgmc.org. I promise a FABULOUS, and IRREVERENT TIME!

@Trent – I LOVE Chicago! One of my favie places to go for breakfast is a place called Orange..They have weekly pancake specials that all go with a certain theme..My favorite is the Rosemary Orange French Toast..Soooooo good!!
@Confused – Check out the news from 4/20..There were quite a few comments about it as well..
I live in Oceanside where the weather is almost always perfect and air conditioning is usually not necessary..I was hating my condo for not having it the last 2 days!! So glad it’s cooling off!
