Yesterday evening, David and I went out for a little movie date to spend part of our Earth Day watching the new Disneynature film Earth on the big screen. Because I heard that the film was made by the folks who made the Planet Earth DVDs for the BBC, I was very excited to see the film … it was only after I realized that most of Earth was comprised of scenes that I already saw on the Planet Earth DVDs that I got a little bummed.

That said, I really loved the film anyways. Even tho some of the footage was recycled from the DVD set to this “new” film, seeing it on the big screen more than made up for the rerun. When the first baby polar bears showed up on the screen in the first 5 minutes, I let out an audible gasp and knew I was gonna enjoy the film entirely. David and I were just stunned by the majestic beauty of all of the featured scenes. Our planet is a truly marvelous place and seeing a film like this really makes you feel small in comparison to the immensity of our planet Earth. It’s amazing how our fragile ecosystem relies on so many perfect parameters to work in unison at all times. These are the sorts of things that I never think about on a day to day basis … films like this are a great reminder that we are part of something so much larger than ourselves. Earth is filled with utterly beautiful scenery that will truly leave you in awe, I’m sure of it. And don’t even get me started on the baby animals … you will DIE from cuteness. There are some harsh realities concerning the circle of life featured in the film but because it’s a Disney production, you never have to see anything too brutal. This film is perfect for families with little kids. If you’ve never seen the Planet Earth DVDs, you will absolutely marvel at this film. Heck, even if you’ve seen the DVDs, I still think it’s worth seeing the footage on the big screen. We loved every minute of the film.
Other than the movie, we had a nice quiet dinner and then a nice quiet night at home. I’m getting my haircut this afternoon (thank the Gods and Josh my stylist) and then David and I have our final preparations to take care of before our trip to Chicago this weekend. Fun!!

I hope you fly in tomorrow! It’s going to 80 and sunny tomorrow and Saturday! Sun, Mon and Tues, not so sunny and warm!
Keep us posted on the state of vamp relations in Chi-town. :)
@Chole — I will certainly do my best ;)
I love Planet Earth. I really want to see this movie. Okay, Chicago is like my second home..I go all the time. You have to go to English. It is so much fun! Trust me in me when I say get a hamburger at the Billygoat and try the Mac and Cheese at Rockit. I am just thinking of stuff that is around downtown. I love that place…have so much fun!!!
I was thinking about seeing this movie but then when I found out all of the scenes were from Planet Earth already I thought I’d just watch planet Earth again..
That’s great you saw the movie on Earth day, I heard that a portion of the movie ticket sales was going to something “green”….
Was that a picture of fried green beans that you Twittered? I LOVE those damn things! I love Chicago! Too bad you won’t be there next weekend! The Harry Potter Exhibition opens next Thursday! One of my favorite places to eat there is Orange..It’s SO nummy!
Hey Trent, did you get to see it on IMAX? Thats the only reason I would see it, but the only thing playing on IMAX anywhere near Denver is Monsters Vs Aliens…. why cant they put Earth on IMAX here ;(
I knew it! As soon as I saw the little baby bird (duck? I don’t remember) fall out of that tree and into a pile of leaves on their preview, I was wondering how I’ve already seen it if Earth wasn’t released on DVD let alone the movie.
I looked at the third picture like 6 times,I totally give up what in Gods name are those animals??
I love movies like those,your right it does make you feel so small!! The earth is a breathe taking please!! God is so amazingly perfect
seeing that black and blue bird (or whatever it’s called) for the first time on planet earth was the best thing that has ever happened to me.
so i got home tonight and turned on the tv.. it was on leno and they were replaying one of the episodes that prince performed on and i saw you on tv when he handed you and your friend the guitar! it was awesome!
@Michelina, they’re a line of elephants.
And I TOTALLY second meg’s comment. The bird was jumping around and clicking and then Whoosh the feathers go up and it’s got this big blue face in its feathers (pic #2) … SO cool!!
What? You’re coming to Chicago? Where will you be so I can “accidentally” run into you guys? :)
Thanks for the info on Earth – it just might be my little girl’s first trip to a movie theater!!!
Have fun in Chicago – would love to run into you somewhere! :-)
I have and LOVE the Planet Earth DVDs. When I saw the trailer for it at the movie theater, I cried thru the entire thing. I can only imagine sobbing for the duration of Earth. I’m such a softie for furry animals. haha.
