Depeche Mode Does ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
Depcehe Mode, who just released their latest album Sounds of the Universe on Tuesday, took over Hollywood Blvd. last night for a live performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Unfortch, I was not able to make it out for the performance but my friend and ofttimes roving reporter Darion was able to attend and he snapped a few pics for sharing here on the blog … behold:

Darion writes: Depeche Mode takes over the streets of Hollywood for Jimmy Kimmel Live
Tonight I went to see Depeche Mode with my friends Fred and Jason – we heard they were giving a free concert in Hollywood. We came upon Hollywood & Argyle to see the entire section of street completely blocked off! The city had closed several blocks around the Hollywood and Highland complex for the FREE concert! Radio stations were handing out 10,000 tickets all day! I have to give a shout out to Sarah S., thanks to her and the always amazing Pink Is The New Blog, we got into the VIP section just as the concert started. It was SO FUN! As you can see from the pics, Jimmy Kimmel kicked off the concert along with Channing Tatum, promoting his new movie Fighting – who looked so insanely hawt I think a few people fainted – and Elisha Cuthbert, who was apparently promoting her transition into becoming a man. I keed, I keed, she’s gorgeous but her outfit choice was not a good one. After they segued for the show Depeche Mode kicked it off with an AMAZING concert! From what we were told they did two songs live for the show, followed by another 30-40 minutes of performing. It was incredible! And so cool they stayed to play for the crowd instead of just doing songs for the show and taking off. My personal favorite of the night was Personal Jesus, the crowd erupted and really got into it. They also did several songs off their new album, as well as some other classics. They start a new tour this summer and ended the show with “See you soon!”. They sounded fantastic live and put on a great show – if you are a fan I definitely recommend seeing them live!!
It sounds like the live performance was incredible … I have been THOROUGHLY obsessed with Sounds of the Universe since I downloaded it on iTunes this past Tuesday. The album is totally solid, really freaking great. It has that old Depeche Mode sound but with an updated feel. While I am bummed that I missed seeing them last night, I understand the band will tour this Summer and is planning a show at the Hollywood Bowl here in LA. I am SO gonna be at that show. After the jump, check out video of DM performing the song Wrong on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night …
I am so glad that Depeche Mode is back with this new album. It’s been ages since they put out an album that I’ve loved fully. Violator will always be my fave DM album but Sounds of the Universe is a pretty amazing album in its own right. Much love goes out to Darion and to Sarah (who took such great care of D at the performance yesterday) for sharing the fun!

Yay! Great to hear they are still awesome live. I saw them too many years ago and can’t wait to hear how they have ‘matured.’

This was the best I’ve heard them play, after the cameras were off. The mounted police were a bit, um, forceful with spectators where there was no cause to be, but still it was a great night.

Christ, finally, something we can agree on Trent. I’m so glad Dave Gahan survived two suicide attempts in the early nineties because Depeche Mode is better than ever. I grew up listening to them and to be their age and see their resurgence is inspiring. I’m just sad Michael Hutchence of INXS never made it because I suspect that band would still be rocking out with him too.

DM was a little before my time, but I grew to really like them in retrospect. I have never bought one of their cds before, but this has really caught my ear. I might have to grab it!

I remember the first song I heard of thiers was Personal Jesus…I was just a kid but I was hooked! They have been one of my favorite bands ever since. ( I even remember telling my parents I was going to a sleep over and instead I went to thier concert for the Violator tour…I was 14 :)
Love SOTU…and thier ‘old’ sound mixed in with the new!

We totally agree. The concert was awessssssome! Personally, we still can’t stop listening to Playing the Angel album, but are psyched to become hooked on Universe. THANKS AGAIN TO DARION (and Sarah) for a kick ass opportunity!!!

That would have been amazing… I went to see Depeche Mode in Kansas City a few years ago, and before the show a bird pooped on me… supposed to be good luck. Unfortunately this was not the case… Dave Gahan performed about two songs and then Martin Gore took over (which is awesome as well…) but then, sadly, just a few songs in they called the show off. Apparently Dave had laryngitis from 3 shows in mexico. It was beautiful out… Starlight theater… can’t be replicated. A huge dissapointment. Wish I could afford to see them again!
