Chris Brown, as expected, was in LA court Monday afternoon to enter a plea of not guilty to the two felony charges that he has been charged with (felony assault and making a criminal threat) in the wake of the alleged assault of his girlfriend Rihanna in the early morning hours of February 8. It was reported that Brown‘s lawyer had been working furiously with the LA District Attorney to try and work out a plea bargain wherein Brown might admit guilt but serve no jailtime … clearly, that deal could not be worked out so the prosecutor’s office moved forward with Brown‘s arraignment Monday afternoon:

R&B star Chris Brown pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles court on Monday to charges stemming from an alleged attack on his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna. Brown, 19, entered the pleas during his arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court. Rihanna’s attorney, Donald Etra, told reporters after the hearing that Rihanna hoped a plea bargain could be struck but that she would testify against Brown if required. Brown and his attorney Mark Geragos did not speak to reporters. Judge Patricia Schnegg set an April 29 status hearing for Brown. Los Angeles prosecutors have said Brown attacked Rihanna, 21, during a roadside dispute in his rented Lamborghini last February. A photo of Rihanna’s bruised and battered face was leaked onto the Internet. Brown later issued a statement saying he was “sorry and saddened” about the incident, and was seeking counseling. The formal charges accuse Brown of assaulting Rihanna “by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury” and threatening to commit a crime “which would result in death and great bodily injury.” He could face up to four years in prison if convicted. A police affidavit said Brown shoved Rihanna’s head against the passenger window, repeatedly punched her in the face, bit her ear and finger, and put her into a headlock. At one stage, the affidavit said, Brown told Rihanna: “I’m going to kill you.”
I have to say, I am RELIEVED the the LA District Attorney’s office is diligently moving forward with this case and seems uninterested in working out a deal where Brown would get off without serving any jailtime. It seems clear that the prosecutor’s office feels confident in the evidence that they have in the case to move forward with the case. I worried that Brown‘s legal team might be able to work out a sweet deal for him but, judging by today’s outcome, that seems unlikely. It remains to be seen if Brown would eventually be willing to agree to jailtime in order to avoid a trial but, even then, the prosecutor’s office might choose to still move forward with the trial in order to secure the maximum punishment allowed by law. The fact that Chris Brown himself admitted some bit of guilt by releasing his “sorry and saddened” statement about a week after the alleged assault took place seems pretty clear to me that he is guilty of these crimes. Here’s hoping the LA District Attorney will work to ensure that he ends up paying for those crimes. Thus far, it looks like that’s the way things are shaping up.

I am SO sick of Chris Brown and that SAME look he ALWAYS has on his face… he’s trying to look remorseful but it just makes me even angrier.
i just don’t know why he can’t be a man and admit he did wrong
I’m glad they are doing something even tho the couple is back together. Maybe someone can knock it into her head *no pun intended* that this is a major thing and shouldn’t just be shrugged off and forgiven.
remember, the key principle of our justice system is innocent until proven guilty. we should be grateful for this. not all nations provide that certainty to their citizens. the only two people who know what happened in that car are rihanna and chris. i’m sure if he’s guilty, he’ll face the consequences.
@freddygirl — absolutely true, thank you for mentioning that
But you can’t come out and apologize for something, and say things like you regret the situation and are heartbroken by it and then claim “not guilty”. Looks a bit suspicious to me. He should just own up and take it like a man. Pay the consequences.
It doesn’t make sense. Gosh, I would he would get what he deserves and disappear already. I’m so tired of this.
Freddygirl.. having that privilege doesn’t mean u should abuse it. Chris is clearly guilty, he said he was sorry, we all saw Rihanna’s face, did she smash her face against the car all by herself to frame him? I don’t think so, I would have a lot more sympathy for the guy if he would’ve pleaded guilty and remorseful. It is kind of shitty to plead not guitly.
Uhm… I HATE Chris Brown… liked him once before but sorry you cant go smacking/punching people and just go on with life pretending to be innocent! Shame on all of the celebrities that I’ve heard speak in his defense…. you should all be CONDEMNING his abusive behavior so other young men who look UP to Mr. Brown will not think it’s a “cool” thing to do!
i hate how saying sorry it is presumed that you are guilty
which is why in Canada there is an apology law now for doctors to be able to say sorry about a death without fear of being sued
not even being allowed to apologize without looking over your shoulder, what a world we live in
I think there’s a difference between a medical doctor working with people who can die, and a singer getting into a car with a girlfriend who comes out half an hour later beaten to a bloody pulp. Unless she was in need of medical help from his fists, its pretty clear why he was apologizing.
What do you mean NOT GUILTY!? He is CLEARLY guilty omg I can’t believe this.
I’m not saying he’s not guilty but the fact that Trent pointed out the apology as admittance of his guilt where he did not in fact admit it is the issue.
There is plenty of evidence to put him away but his apology should not be used as a piece of the evidence, imo.
What in the WORLD is he doing pleading not guilty? He is an IDIOT. Oh and the bastard showed up 30 minutes late to the court date. Throw the book at that asshole. I want him in jail.
This guy is a scumbag of the lowliest kind. He didn’t just slap her — he beat the sheet out of her and could have done some serious damage or even worse. That is not something that should go unpunished and that is not something you say, “Oh, baby, I’m so sorry. I’ll never do it again, please take me back.” That is something you press charges for, something you testify in court to and LEAVE the guy for good. Rihanna’s just as much an idiot for taking him back.
I don’t know if that pic posted if from the court session today – but either way why is this douche bag trying to make a fashion statement with his outfit? He clearly cared way to much on what he looked like in that court room more than his LIFE and what he did WRONG!
For the record douche hammer, what you’re wearing in that pic kinda looks like something for a GIRL! Maybe thats why u did wat u did, coz you’re afraid of your womanhood!
i do not know if they are the comittoer, but ed hardy shirts is

I hope he goes to jail and truly hope he doesn’t manage to manipulate R into not testifying against him. Hopefully, she made statements to the police and the DA that will take care of his sorry a**!
I will call it now he will get a slap on the hand!!
:(:(:(:(:( he will get probation and of community service maybe a huge fine!! I wish I had more faith in the sYstem!!
Rihanna’s after beating photo tells the truth, even if he won’t.
