A ‘Surprise’ From The ‘Britney: For The Record’ DVD

"I'm really not interested in pity ... what I could use is some understanding"
April 8th, 2009

Last November MTV aired the documentary Britney: For The Record which took viewers behind the scenes of the life of Britney Spears and gave fans a taste of what it’s like to live her life. Britney: For The Record was released on DVD yesterday (as was reported earlier this year) and includes a few bonus scenes that were no included in the original airing of the doc … new scenes that provide even more enlightening of Britney’s sometimes frantic life:

So as not to spoil the “surprise” in this clip, I shant go into what is really going on in this vid … but I will say that it is a very sweet and very poignant moment in Britney’s rehabilitation that might move you just a little. While the surprise is really fun, my fave part of the clip is her confusion for the first half of the video. After the jump, check out the bonus clip titled Day 57: A Surprise from Britney: For The Record in full …

I am very much looking forward to the arrival of my copy of this DVD … judging by how sweet this bonus clip is, I’m curious to see what other scenes were left out of the original broadcast. It’s pretty amazing to think that in the time since this documentary aired on MTV, Britney’s “comeback” has completely flourished. She’s worked very hard and it shows.

  1. Brittany Says:

I like how her first thought was Vegas lol! Very sweet though.

  2. Chase Says:

I wish this was included in the documentary. It really says a lot… I’m seeing her this Saturday and I couldn’t be more excited!

  3. Amanda Ashby Says:

This was included when the show was aired in New Zealand – I remember because it was my favorite part.

  4. Lana Says:

LOL she is so cute when she was all confused. This was a beautiful part. Everyone has the freedom to drive their car whenever they please and Britney can’t, gosh, it’s just so sad that she can’t even do something as simple as driving because of stupid paps. I love you Britney <3

  5. Jadedkitten Says:

I love her so fucking much <3333333333333333333333333

  6. Thomas Says:

This clip was included in the documentary here in Sweden actually :)

She has indeed come along way since that documentary aired last year :)

  7. Tricia Says:

Awww – she looked so happy and free just driving her car. Never thought of just being able to drive where you want as a blessing… now I will add it to my list of daily blessings to count. (Your blog is already on there! tee hee)

  8. brady Says:

wow…that was kind of a moving clip. like how nada was said from hamie, or at least they didnt show it. just her hugging him, then hopping in her car… i liked that. i love her!

  9. Tanya Says:

I have such an inexplicable soft-spot for Britney. Glad to see that she find small moments of happiness. I wonder if she would give it all up for a ‘normal’ life? (not that she ever could, but I wonder.)

  10. PixieBassline Says:

Lol – she looks & sounds SO daft when she’s confused!
I also like to drive my own car… NOT have to be driven by others.
I DO know how it feels to have a car but you can’t drive it. (not 4 the same reasons tho/ my car was broken & I was stuck in the country for MONTHS, only able to get rides from other people – which I hate to do!) It DOES take away A LOT of your freedom, when you can’t even drive your own car.

  11. Sara Says:

That was really moving and I wasn’t ready for it. Wow.

  12. Michelina Says:

    She is so adorable!!

  13. Krissy Says:

I am so tired of her paparazzi bs. There are some stars that truly take steps to avoid them. Then there are stars like Britney that encourage them (or call them, or flash them, etc.). I am sorry, but don’t go to Robertson blvd. and act irritated that there are paparazzi there! It is so sad how many kind people she has fooled with her victim act. I think people like her better as a victim, because then they can overlook all of the terrible choices she has made that show she is a self absorbed, spoiled, immature person.

  14. la princesa Says:

Krissy, I think that’s only true of certain celebs–the Speidi types, the has-beens, the ones with a new movie that they’re worried won’t do well… Madonna and Julia Roberts do not court this type of publicity…and it’s the same for her. I’m sure when she was with that paparazzi dude, then, yeah…but that was a low point in her life anyhow. I don’t think of her as a victim. She’s a survivor. She’s hung in there since she was a little girl, never once saying “oh, it’s because I was a child star, woe is me.”
I can’t wait to watch this dvd!

  15. Julia Says:

I am from New Zealand and when this doco aired on NZ tv this clip was included…I wonder why it wasnt included in America?

  16. Emily Says:

I have been a huge fan of Britney since ‘99.
But this little clip brought me to tears. I adore this goofy girl.
    Can’t wait to see her April 16th in LA!!! :}

  17. Krissy Says:

“never once saying “oh, it’s because I was a child star, woe is me.”

Isn’t that EXACTLY what she says through the entier documentary? It is one big “woe is me” pitty party. You brought up Julia Roberts…good example. She cares enough about her family and her privacy to move to New Mexico and give her children a private life. Britney chose the opposite path, taking her kids to pumpkin patches where the paparazzi are already there, just to get her kids and herself in tabloids. Britney uses her children like props.

It wouldn’t bother me so much if she didn’t blame others for her mistakes. Being an adult means taking responsibility for your actions, not blaming the paparazzi for your own choices.

  18. Ashley H Says:

Trent, or anybody, how do we feel about Brett? I know she’s gone now, but, she wasn’t bad right?

  19. meh Says:

yep saw this scene when it aired in NZ… she’s so cute

  20. Sassy K Says:

What a beautiful girl she is.

  21. Megan Says:

Very cute. And i think Britney would move somewhere more low-key if she could. Kevin has the kids and won’t leave los angeles therefore britney isn’t gunna leave cause she isn’t gunna leave her kids. If kevin wasn’t such an ass maybe he’d consider britney instead of just considering his “budding carrer” he thinks hes gunna start by living there.

  22. Buzz Bites — 4/8/09: AAAAAAND THE LINDSAY LOHAN MEDIA MACHINE IS ONCE AGAIN RESURRECTED LIKE THE BRIDE OF CHUCKY! | GossipO Says:

[...] + MTV’s documentary Britney: For The Record came out on DVD yesterday and with it, a few bonus scenes of the Britster — including this one that touched us like a table of finger food backstage at her Circus Tour VIP pre-party. (Pink Is The New Blog) [...]

  23. nicole Says:

why should kevin give up a “budding career”? i dont think it makes him an ass cause he wont drop everything and move for her. he has no reason to consider her for anything anymore.

  24. Molly Says:

Ashley H–is Brett gone? I know Felicia is back with Brit, but I thought she was keeping Brett on as well. And Brett was/is one of the good guys.

What a moving moment for Brit. So glad we got to see it. Thanks, Trent!

  25. Jadedkitten Says:

    Hey Krissy FUCK OFF CUNT

  26. Jadedkitten Says:

Yes molly Brett’s still with her :D

  27. artgirl77425 Says:

Wow–JadedKitten you need to relax, Krissy didn’t say anything bad. I agree with her that we have seen a lot of Britney’s kids in photo ops, etc. I personally do not care for Britney Spears or her music, but I love Trent, so I deal with the over excess of Britney-ville.

  28. Annie Says:

We see lots of celebrity kids in photographs, are ALL of those photo ops too?? Give me a break! Half of the pictures you see of Britney and her kids are invasive ones, helicopters flying over her back yard and taking pictures of her with her boys in the pool, hiding in the bushes outside the boys’ school and photographing her as she picks them up, even tracking them on family trips to Kentwood.

So she took her kids to the pumpkin patch? Big deal!! It’s a common Hollywood tradition. I saw Heidi Klum, Tori Spelling, Nicole Ritchie, Courtney Cox there with their kids that same Halloween! Are they all paparazzi seeking parents too? How about parents like Jessica Alba who takes her baby to the park, or those moms who go shopping with their kids in public? All seeking attention ?

Britney screwed up, and dating a paparazzi was only one of her horrible mistakes, BUT give her some credit!! She’s taken such good steps to accept help and improve her life. And frankly, NOTHING in that documentary screamed “woe is me” (even though she has every right to feel that way) On the contrary, she said more than once, how blessed she is, how she doesn’t want pity, and showed how she’s working to regain her life and her career. Want to see someone who’s all “woe is me”, try Lindsay Lohan.

  29. ash Says:

Woah, that was really sweet. I didn’t expect that! I’m really glad that she seems to be happier lately.

  30. tOnnY Says:

sometimes i get scared of how much Brit and I have in common :S maybe that’s why i like her…
but anyway back to the subject aww she’s sweet, and funny, and very naive, lol

-i hate it when my friends tell me things like “we’re riding a donkey” and i buy it =( – lol

  31. sc Says:

That was so tender. I think a lot of times people forget that celebrities have real feelings, too.
Oh, and I’m with Jadedkitten: Krissy, you’re a cunt. She doesn’t have the option to DRIVE (in case you missed that from the video) to some out-of-town pumpkin patch; she has to go where her drivers can take her between appointments she has. She’s not making any money off the paps taking her picture while she runs errands, so shut your bitter mouth.

  32. Mark Says:

@ Sara yea same here, it moved me. Tears* really…2 have that freedom taken away from you and just thinkin’ you;ll never have that back? Wow then this…wow.

  33. Ford Says:

hahaha..i love the very beginning..”what are we doing yall?”..you can take the girl out of the South but you can’t take the South out of the girl

  34. danielthegreat Says:

I think it’s really telling of how little you understand Krissy, especially about how things work in her life, she made her mistakes and yet she still pays for them daily. the ridicule that she goes through is something that no one should have to go through. As a “free” American she has every single right as anyone esle to go on robertson blvd if she pleases, there shouldn’t be an exception to going somewhere because you’ll be hounded. theres an appeal to going to those boutiques and she should be able to enjoy them if she’d like to. what I’ve never understood was, what is the point of photographing celebs from so close a distance, whatever happened to using zoom lenses and hiding in the bushes. when did paps have the right to bombard people the way that they do? i don’t think a fan could even ask for an autograph even if they wanted to…

  35. danielthegreat Says:

oh and preach on Annie…couldn’t have put it better myself

  36. Katie Says:

I love Britney. I know what it’s like to be in your car and driving and feeling free. This was a touching clip. I wish they had included this in the documentary.

  37. petra Says:

okay, i admit, i had a tear in my eye

  38. c Says:

she sounded so tired and sedated. Very much like her lazy dance step. As much as she wished to drive her own car, I wished for her to find a way and drive back to where her long-lost love is : To Dance.

  39. nae Says:

i <3 britney. this clip was very touching. now i wanna see the whole documentary

  40. Karly Says:

That was so unexpected. My jaw dropped and i wanted to cry.

  41. Krissy Says:

That is so funny that you are calling me the C word! Go ahead and degrade yourself to stick up for someone you don’t even know. Her actions are just like Lindsey Lohan’s and Paris, so I don’t see how you can fault one and not the other. Yes, all of those stars who went to that pumpkin patch to get publicity. There are a billion pumpkin patches in the Los Angeles area, and if she wanted quality time with her sons, she wouldn’t go to the ONE where the paparazzi camp out.

Going to the park, school, etc. is very different, but when stars like Britney bend over backwards to get paparazzi attention, it makes it harder to get laws to protect people in these places. I know stars that are in Los Angeles frequently, and you would never know it because they take steps to protect their privacy. I am completely serious, and you accept my point, or you can make up excuses. But you are only fooling yourselves. Paparazzi are free promotion, and Britney has built her career on them.

  42. Steven Says:

Krissy, I think it is important to keep in mind that when Britney (or her team) calls up the paparzzi, that is a chance for her to regain some control over her image. How often do we see one picture of Britney, or any other celeb, scowling or looking in the least bit unattractive and everyone in the grocery store checkout line sees it on a cover with the headline “_______ is spiraling out of control” or some variation of that? Yes, in a sense the paparazzi are “free,” but Britney and many others have paid a dear price. I am happy Britney wants to be recognized as a mother, and her kids will never be out of the spotlight. Would you feel better if she made them wear masks everywhere like MJ?

When Mariah was going through her problems I had just become a huge fan, and it made me so sad to see how quickly she was forgotten. It took her over four years to get back on the map, and they still put her on those stupid countdowns for “biggest breakdown”. Britney will never truly be rid of her mistakes, and I hate to see people hold her past against her when she has only had a positive impact on her fans. And let’s face it, we all got a good show out of her meltdown. I know some people think Britney’s comeback was rushed, but she doesn’t have the option of taking her time like Mariah. She’s got huge bills to pay and people to please. Not to mention it would be unimaginable to go through life and have the last thing people remember about you be your lowest point.

On a final note, fans, please be respectful. I love Britney’s dirty mouth, but I don’t think she would want her fans to call people c***s just to defend her.

  43. katie Says:

Anyone know the name of the song used in the clip?

  44. Krissy Says:

Thanks for your response Steven. I understand how people can see this differently from me, because we all have different perspectives on how this whole celebrity game works. I understand if she wants to use the paparazzi like other celebs do, but when she complains about them she is really biting the hand that feeds her, and in essence she is lying to her fans. If people find her entertaining, that is completely fine, I just feel bad watching someone manipulate their fans into feeling bad for them when they are actively seeking the attention from the people they condemn. Many of the comments seem to come from people who are sincerely sweet, and it seems to me she is taking advantage of these people.

There are many, many very successful stars that have homes outside of Los Angeles. She could live in Idaho, Montana, Utah, Lousianna, essentially anywhere but in Los Angeles and New York, and still be able to record and work on projects when she wanted to. Then she could drive her car everyday! Of course it might not be as exciting for her with out paparazzi there to document it. Kevin has been nothing but accomodating to her needs with the children. IMO, she has always had control over her life, she just doesn’t like the consequences for her actions. She wants to be able to go clubbing and flash her breasts and bits for attention, but she doesn’t want people to be disgusted by that. Even in the video she tried to make it seem as if people were just disgusted because she was out late, failing to take responsibility for her repeated crude behavior.

Anyway, sorry if my comments traumatized anyone. Just tossing in my 2 cents, a different perspective from someone who deals with similar matters on a regular basis.

  45. TandSara Says:

um Krissy Britney is under a conservatorship , she doesn’t have control of her life right now, I thought that was the whole point. Britney may or may not have a mental disorder as well( it’s been said that she does, who really knows ) but if she does than her situation is NOT the same as a Paris H. Paris for instance is not and was not a child star, she is an heiress who hung out in hollywood and decided she wanted to be famous( and she was an adult when she did that) Britney is more along the lines of a Lindsay Lohan, she is a child star who grew up having to work to pay for her parent’s lifestyles, and the fact of the matter is, it doesn’t make since to judge Britney by the same standards as other celebs when she is essentially mentally a teenager. I’m not even a big britney fan, I just like a song here and there, but I am the same age as her and watched her rise to stardom. Do you live in LA Krissy? I lived there for a year and a half, the Papparazzi will show up to wherever they are tipped off to be at, Pumpkin Patches don’t have resident Papparazzi that show up every year, obviously if a couple of higher profile celebs show up, the pap numbers will increase ten fold, lol. Britney has been a pap fixture from jumpstreet, they have been hunting her for years, she lives in a bubble,( who know’s what that does to a person mentally, day in and day out) YOU can’t judge it b/c YOu don’t live it, none of us do, we have no idea what it’s like for that to be a huge part of your life, alot of celebs don’t have nearly as much pap attention as she does, they don’t follow Julia Roberts around anymore, she doesn’t interest them and she’s not apart of young hollywood anymore. Sure Britney did court the pap’s at one time, but note that was during her breakdown, so she did alot of things that don’t make a lick of sense to the rest of us, that could have been apart of a mental illness or maybe it was apart of some form of depression and seeking attention, whatever it was, what does it have to do with her now.; She’s under a conservatorship she can’t just do whatever she wants, her father oversees everything. I live in san diego now so Im further away from the hollywood scene, but it doesn’t take rocket science or a california address to know that Britney had a breakdown and is now trying to rebuild in a sense, I don’t know if her life will ever be normal, b/c it never really was.

My theory on the pap thing and Britney is that she figured ” if you can’t beat em, join em” and that’s basically all it was, the pics of her getting out of cars showing her business, had more to do with her breakdown then it did the pap’s, she wasn’t taking care of herself at all, remember what she was wearing, THAT was a cry for help, I don’t understand people who have no sympathy for the girl, I know she’s a celeb, but she obviously struggled big time with the celebrity that she’s in, she was a child when she started, it isn’t the same as someone with an adult mind deciding to go for a career in the business. Like apples and oranges.

How do you deal with similar matters Krissy, your NOT famous, You have no idea what those people’s lives are like, it doesn’t matter if you are a PR person or an agent or friend of a famous person, doesn’t matter, if you aren’t famous you aren’t living it, Period. I used to work at Fox studios, that doesn’t mean I know shit about what the actors( the actual people in front of the camera) go through, I don’t, I just saw them when they’d walk around on the lot and that was it, I wasn’t famous by association. Nobody should be traumatized by anything you said, it was just an opinion, you have every right to state yours and for it to be valid. You made valid points.

  46. HB Says:

I’d like to see how those above that are bashing Britney would deal if they couldn’t even go in their own backyard without people taking pictures. If THEY couldn’t go to the grocery store to buy tampons without it ended up in US magazine. Like the video shows….little things like driving your car by yourself without interruption are given up to be who she is. The papparazi has gone overboard if you ask me. I don’t think that Britney is asking for pity at all. I think she completely realizes that she chose this life of fame. But just like every other person in the world, they should be able to have their privacy. Some famous people handle it better than others. But being a young person in Hollywood these days would be really hard. The media and papparazi have invaded lives and it’s sad. I wouldn’t want to be Britney. Much love and hope for her success and a pleasant life.

  47. artgirl77425 Says:

If you want to live the life of a celebrity (and all the perks that go with it), you also have to accept the fact that your life will be public. Let’s face it, most celebrities are where they are because they craved and sought out attention at some point. End of story.

  48. Luli Says:

Really? Britney or her managers can’t get her any privacy?
Meryl Streep has managed to have a successful career in the show business while keeping quite private her personal life.
Do the paparazzi camp outside Natalie Portman’s house?

  49. HB Says:

Natalie Portman isn’t an international pop star. It is my opinion that actresses and actors are a bit different. It seems to me they get treated with more respect. Britney is young and in the spotlight. Being young and not famous is hard enough. We all do stupid things when we are young….luckily for you and me the world doesn’t hear about it. She has made mistakes and is trying to fix them and grow up. People should be happy that she is trying. But because of her crazy mistakes she has to work even harder to stay out of the tabloids.
