Spencer Pratt Gifts Bride-To-Be Heidi Montag With $250K In Bling

Wedding prep
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

We are only 2 days away from the wedded union of the first couple of MTV’s The Hills, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, and In Touch Weekly is reporting that Spencer has already gifted his ladylove with $250,000 in jewelry as a wedding gift. By the sound of how much dough homie is dishing out for his wife-to-be, the couple may actually be planning to really get married after all:

Like any bride, Heidi Montag wants to look like a million bucks at her wedding. Now, thanks to soon-to-be-hubby Spencer Pratt, the blond beauty will at least feel like a quarter-million! The Hills villain spent $250,000 on Neil Lane jewelry for their luxe nuptials on April 25. “He bought her earrings, two diamond chain bracelets, a necklace and their wedding bands,” a pal tells In Touch. “He wanted to get it there because he knows Neil works with a lot of celebrities — and Spencer thinks he’s one, too.” The reality-TV pair will exchange platinum rings in a ceremony at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, Calif.

HMMM … that’s a lot of bling. Coupled with the fact that Speidi did apply for a legal marriage license already, methinks the nuptials set for Saturday afternoon will be the real deal. I’m pretty sure that the pair are planning a lavish to do for the event … which we will all get to see on the season/series(?) finale of The Hills in a few weeks. Any ideas for wedding gifts that should be sent to the happy couple?

‘Ugly Betty’ Gets Renewed For A 4th Season

Also, 'Heroes' gets renewed as well ... but with fewer eps
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Last January we learned some troublesome news about ABC’s TV series Ugly Betty that made it seem like the network has lost faith in the show and that it might headed for an early end. Today, to the relief of many fans, we learn that things are still going well for UB now that ABC has decided to renew the show for a 4th season next year:

This just in: ABC confirms that “Ugly Betty” will be back for another season. News comes from actor Michael Urie — the ever-fabulous Marc St. James — via his official Twitter on Thursday morning: “Ugly Betty gets official season 4 pick up!!! Whohoo!” This follows the most excellent news that Christopher Gorham will be reprising his role as Henry before the third season ends. Sorry Matt, we’re Team Henry all the way.

And Twitter strikes again … seriously, it seems as if all of the late-breaking information these days is coming straight from the horse’s mouth (which is one of the reasons why I love Twitter). Despite the worry caused by ABC’s actions earlier this year, I had a feeling that Ugly Betty would be back for at least one more season. I personally stopped watching the show before this current season got underway but I am glad to know that the show is coming back. I know many people who love the show and should be excited that the series will be back for more.

Additionally, TV Guide is reporting that Heroes will, too, return with another season next year … but unlike previous seasons, NBC is ordering fewer eps of the series:

Heroes’ life span will be a little shorter next season. NBC plans to cut the number of episodes of its superhero drama from 25 this season to 18 to 20 in its fourth season, Ad Age reports. The reasons for the cutback are legion: Though the show’s latest episodes have reinvigorated many fans, a series of complicated and wide-ranging storylines cost the show ratings in Season 2 and earlier this season. Also, NBC will have five fewer prime-time hours to fill in 2009-10 season, thanks to Jay Leno’s new hour-long program at 10 pm weeknights. And other networks are also experimenting with condensed seasons: ABC’s Lost has kept to 16 or 17 episodes in recent seasons, and CBS’s Harper’s Island has a 13-episode format that could be repeated (with a new setting and cast) if the murder mystery succeeds with viewers. Though Heroes debuted to strong ratings in 2006, since the 2007-08 writers strike its viewership has slipped to about 7.7 million viewers on average, four million fewer than it earned before the work stoppage, according to Nielsen.

Heroes is another show, unfortunately, that I have sorta given up on. I still DVR the show and have a box full of eps but I haven’t watched the show in months. There have been so many false starts and so many skewed storylines that I totally lost interest in all of the confusion. But, I am happy that the show will return next season. I deffo plan to watch the eps I have saved on my DVR. Hopefully there’ll be something there to re-inspire me to watch again. Do any of y’all still watch Ugly Betty and Heroes? Are you happy the shows are coming back?

Channing Tatum Does ‘Interview’ Magazine

Yummo!
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Channing Tatum, who you may be aware has a new film called Fighting opening in theaters tomorrow, is featured in the new issue of Interview magazine lookin’ all kinds of hot. Here are a couple photos from Channing’s photospread for Interview along with a portion of his interview for the mag with Marlon Wayans:

The story of Channing Tatum seems to reinforce the validity of the spectacular arc of life in movies. Take, for example, this brief rundown of essential plot points so far: He is born in a small town (Cullman, Alabama); he overcomes his early outsider status to become a popular kid (and even winds up playing football); he gets into hip-hop dancing (after seeing a guy do head spins at a local club); he is discovered on the street (by a modeling agent); he gets cast in a critically acclaimed independent film (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, 2006); he lands a part in a big studio film (Step Up, 2006); and he is tapped for unmitigated superstardom (at least a lot of people are betting on it). It doesn’t hurt that Tatum is—and, by all accounts, has always been—very good-looking. But watching him onscreen, it’s clear that his face and his good luck aren’t his most important assets. In his brief career, Tatum has shown a special aptitude for playing highly physical characters whose actions often articulate more than their words … The next few months are busy ones for the 29-year-old Tatum. He recently reunited with Montiel for Fighting, a film about underground grapplers, and he also plays Pretty Boy Floyd in Michael Mann’s highly anticipated John Dillinger film, Public Enemies, which is headlined by Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. But the Hollywood industrial complex seems to have bet the farm on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Tatum plays the indomitable soldier Duke, who—as any fan of the ’80s cartoon series can tell you—is the embodiment of all that is right and good, and the unquestionable star of the show. The film co-stars Dennis Quaid, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Christopher Eccleston, and Tatum’s interviewer here, Marlon Wayans:

MARLON WAYANS: So when did you start hip-hop dancing?
CHANNING TATUM: I think when I was around 15. My sister was friends with the manager of a nightclub, and I remember going there to deliver these flyers—her boyfriend did graphic design. So I remember that they got me into this club, and there were these guys in this circle who were flipping and doing all this crazy stuff, and I was just like, “Oh, my god. I want to do that!” I was seeing this guy spin on his head . . .

WAYANS: Can you do head spins?
TATUM: I can get around, like, two or three times, but I’m not graceful at it. I can’t do it like real breakers can.

WAYANS: So how, then, did you get discovered?
TATUM: At one point I just decided, “All right, I’ve got to try to do something with my life.” So I went down to Miami, and somebody saw me on the streets, and that’s how I got into modeling.

WAYANS: So you were just hanging out on the streets of Miami with your shirt off, and someone was like, “Oh, he’s fly. I’m going to make him a model”?
TATUM: Yeah, pretty much.

WAYANS: That would never have happened to me—although I was found in the streets, too. [Tatum laughs] Who did you model for?
TATUM: [pauses] Abercrombie & Fitch . . .

WAYANS: [laughs] I love it! How could you keep that from me?
TATUM: Why do you think I kept it from you?

WAYANS: [laughs] There are certain things you tell people up-front, like, “I’ve got herpes,” or, “I was an Abercrombie model.” So when you were modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch, were you, like, the dude who stands outside the store all greased up, with abs that go all the way down to his perineum?
TATUM: Nah, man. I was actually one of the guys in the catalog. I had to put on a chicken suit at one point. I was like a mascot. We were in a locker room, and there were a bunch of dudes with abs all the way down to their . . . whatever the hell—their perineums? And then I was in the chicken suit standing next to them . . . [Wayans continues to laugh] Stop.

WAYANS: Okay . . . [laughs some more] So what did you do after that? What was the progression?
TATUM: I did some campaigns, and then . . . I don’t know. Modeling was successful for me. I didn’t have to wait tables or anything like that, so that was nice. And I got to see the entire world. Then I auditioned for a Pepsi commercial, and I got it, and that was incredibly fun. So I thought, Well, maybe I should try this acting thing . . .

WAYANS: When we were doing the shooting scenes on G.I. Joe, you were a little bit better versed at using the guns than a lot of the guys. You want to explain that?
TATUM: I’m from Alabama—I like guns.

WAYANS: Did y’all get them for birthday gifts when you were, like, 3 years old? How long have you been shooting?
TATUM: Well, the first and only time I went hunting, I shot a deer, and it mortified me. I just couldn’t do it again. But I know a lot about guns, so I go to the gun range and stuff like that with friends sometimes.

WAYANS: [Y]ou are physically gifted. I mean, I’ve seen you do flips and
things . . . You’re like Spider-Man without the costume on. You climbed out my window once, and I was like, “This boy is half monkey.” [Tatum laughs] Have you ever gotten hurt on a film?

TATUM: When we were doing Fighting, I broke my nose and had a concussion. In the middle of the scene, this guy literally pushed my nose back into place with two spoons. He was just like, “Don’t worry about it.” And I was like, “What?” He had a bucket of ice and two metal spoons . . .

WAYANS: You had a good ol’ ghetto doctor. That’s the way my dad used to fix my broken stuff. You also got to do a movie with Michael Mann, PublicEnemies, which I’m extremely jealous about . . .
TATUM: That was absolutely nuts. Essentially, for me, it was kind of like having an extra’s part. I flew in for one day, and it was like the length of a commercial shoot. All I did was run from Christian Bale in an orchard all day—I played Pretty Boy Floyd and Christian’s character kills me. The scene kind of introduces Christian Bale’s character, Purvis, who is, like, the head honcho in the FBI. Johnny Depp is in the film, too.

WAYANS: That’s good company. Did Christian Bale yell at you at all?
TATUM: Nothing that wasn’t either merited or scripted. [laughs]

WAYANS: Well, I hope you do more action movies, but I would love to see you do a comedy.
TATUM: Only if it’s with you. I’m not a comedian.I can play off of people, but I’m not that guy.I don’t want people being like, “Yeah, he should have stuck with drama . . .” It would not be my choice to have critics mumbling that.

WAYANS: Is there any actor whose career really inspires you?
TATUM: Man, there are so many dramatic actors where I would give all of my anything to have their careers, but I don’t think I can try to follow anyone. I mean, if you look at any of the greats, from people like Paul Newman and Robert Redford to, you know, Brad Pitt—to get any of the kinds of roles like the ones that they’ve gotten, or just to be a part of any of the kinds of movies they’ve made, would be the end-all for me.

Oh man, I love me some Channing. You gotta agree that his movies are more about how the action speaks rather than how the man speaks himself but, as I’ve said all along, I don’t mind one bit. There is much more of the interview to be read HERE and after the jump, check out a couple more photos from his Interview photospread — trust me, you don’t want to miss these pics …

David Slade Has Been Chosen To Direct ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’

Contrary to previous reports
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Last month Variety reported that Juan Antonio Bayona had been offered the directing job for the third movie in the Twilight Saga movie franchise, officially titled The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, after it was rumored that Drew Barrymore was interested in securing the directing job herself. Today, we learn from Summit Entertainment themselves that Bayona HAS NOT been given the job of directing … they have selected David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) to direct The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Here is the full text of the latest Summit Entertainment press release:

Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. Meyer stated, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition.” Feig said, “Stephenie Meyer’s ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.” Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006’s engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007’s genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release. In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life. Slade is represented by William Morris Agency.

I have to admit, I was very excited at the notion of Juan Antonio Bayona directing the third film, especially since Bayona is a protégée of Spanish director Guillermo del Toro (who I LOVE LOVE LOVE). I was very impressed with Bayona’s film The Orphanage. That said, I really loved Slade’s work on his film Hard Candy. That film was my first introduction to Ellen Page (before she appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand and Juno). I think Eclipse will be in very capable hands under Slade’s direction. As you may recall, Summit has previously announced that The Twillight Saga: Eclipse will be released in theaters on June 30, 2010, which is just over one year’s time from now. So now we have both a release date and a director … all that’s left is for production to begin — but that can’t happen just yet since the second movie is currently being filmed in Vancouver. It’s a tight schedule, y’all … but the Twilight Saga movies are well on their way.

‘Earth’ By Disneynature Recycles

The TV Guide
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Yesterday evening, David and I went out for a little movie date to spend part of our Earth Day watching the new Disneynature film Earth on the big screen. Because I heard that the film was made by the folks who made the Planet Earth DVDs for the BBC, I was very excited to see the film … it was only after I realized that most of Earth was comprised of scenes that I already saw on the Planet Earth DVDs that I got a little bummed.

That said, I really loved the film anyways. Even tho some of the footage was recycled from the DVD set to this “new” film, seeing it on the big screen more than made up for the rerun. When the first baby polar bears showed up on the screen in the first 5 minutes, I let out an audible gasp and knew I was gonna enjoy the film entirely. David and I were just stunned by the majestic beauty of all of the featured scenes. Our planet is a truly marvelous place and seeing a film like this really makes you feel small in comparison to the immensity of our planet Earth. It’s amazing how our fragile ecosystem relies on so many perfect parameters to work in unison at all times. These are the sorts of things that I never think about on a day to day basis … films like this are a great reminder that we are part of something so much larger than ourselves. Earth is filled with utterly beautiful scenery that will truly leave you in awe, I’m sure of it. And don’t even get me started on the baby animals … you will DIE from cuteness. There are some harsh realities concerning the circle of life featured in the film but because it’s a Disney production, you never have to see anything too brutal. This film is perfect for families with little kids. If you’ve never seen the Planet Earth DVDs, you will absolutely marvel at this film. Heck, even if you’ve seen the DVDs, I still think it’s worth seeing the footage on the big screen. We loved every minute of the film.

Other than the movie, we had a nice quiet dinner and then a nice quiet night at home. I’m getting my haircut this afternoon (thank the Gods and Josh my stylist) and then David and I have our final preparations to take care of before our trip to Chicago this weekend. Fun!!

‘US Weekly’ Presents ‘Hot Hollywood Style’ 2009

Style icons on parade
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

US Weekly magazine hosted their annual Hot Hollywood Style party at My House nightclub here in LA, CA last night and managed to attempted to bring out all of the fabulously stylish people in Hollywood … but they only managed to lure folks like Paris Hilton (who would show up at the opening of a door) and Fergie Ferg (who we’ve already seen today is a MEGA style maven). But, some pretty cool folks like Eliza Dushku and Ashley Jones (who currently stars in the CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful but will also appear in the second season of HBO’s True Blood this Summer) as well. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Yes, yes … the usual suspects posing for the cameras. I’m not sure what exactly the criteria is for one to be deemed to have Hot Hollywood Style but I guess this is it. I seem to recall that previous parties from previous years seemed to have a more impressive turnout. In any event, it was US Weekly’s party and they can cry if they want to (and if I were them, I would). Better luck next year!
