Hugh Jackman Leaves His Mark On Hollywood Blvd.

Star quality
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Hugh Jackman made a very special in-person appearance today on Hollywood Blvd. in front of the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theater in order to leave his hand and footprints in the pavement in front of the theater. Jackman’s prints will sit alongside Hollywood icons like Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck … which ain’t too shabby. Here are pics of Hugh at today’s hand/footprint ceremony and some deets from the event:

Hugh Jackman has cemented his claws and paws in Hollywood history. The Australian star of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was honoured at a ceremony on Tuesday outside Hollywood Boulevard’s historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, where his hand and footprints were immortalised in cement. Jackman’s markings sit alongside the legends of Hollywood, with the likes of Marilyn Monroe , John Wayne , Frank Sinatra , Clark Gable , Bing Crosby, Doris Day and Humphrey Bogart performing similar ceremonies in the theatre’s iconic forecourt the past 70 years. “I have to tell you,” Jackman told a vocal crowd of about 500 fans and dignitaries, including Rupert Murdoch, owner of the 20th Century Fox film studio, which is releasing the Wolverine film. “This particular block of real estate has brought me two moments in my life I thought would never ever happen. Hosting the Oscars and now here today. It means the world to me to be here.” Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is located next to the Kodak Theatre, the home of the annual Oscars ceremony. Sydney-born Jackman, 41, hosted February’s Oscars and was so well received that he’s expected to be asked to perform the job again next year.

I’d say that Hugh Jackman is having a pretty great career right about now. Everyone wants a piece of him (in more ways than one) and he rarely disappoints. Even tho Australia wasn’t the blockbuster it was promised to be, Hugh was (by all accounts) the best thing in that film. With X-Men Origins: Wolverine opening in theaters in about 2 weeks time, he is about to take off as a superhero leading man. It is quite an honor to leave your handprints in the cement in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. While there are hundreds and hundreds of stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there are just a few sets of hand/footprints in front of the theater. Personally, I think it would’ve been kinda cool if he would’ve also left his Wolverine claw marks in the pavement but … I guess beggers can’t be choosers. Congrats, Hugh! You’re a true megastar now!

Chace Crawford Films A New Movie

Gets scruffy in the process
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Chace Crawford was spotted filming scenes for a new film titled Twelve directed by Joel Schumacher (who you may know as the guy who ruined the Batman movie franchise in the late 90’s) in NYC this week … here are a couple pics from the set:

Yeah, I know … these pics aren’t at all different from the sort of photos we see when Chace is filming scenes for Gossip Girl … but he’s too purdy to let these pics not get posted. Twelve also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Emma Roberts and 50 Cent and is based on the novel by Nick McDonell … a novel that he wrote in 2002 when he was 17 years old. The novel has been described as Bright Lights, Big City meets Less Than Zero and it sounds very interesting. Here’s hoping the next time we see photos from production of this film, there’ll be a bit more excitement there, too. Tho, I gotta say the scruff looks good on Chace. His pretty boy face could use some roughening up.

Amy Winehouse Burns Her Flesh Off

Some people shouldn't be allowed near fire
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Amy Winehouse, our fave little trainwreck, got herself into a bit of trouble recently when she tried to host a dinner party in her temporary new home of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. Apparently, Amy ended up scalding the flesh off her leg while attempting to cook for her friends … and her injury is plainly evident in this new photo of her taking a walk on the beach this week:

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has landed herself in hot water – she has suffered severe scalds after a cooking blunder. The star decided to hold a dinner party for her pals on the Caribbean isle of St. Lucia, where she has spent much of the last four months working on a new album. But trouble began brewing in the kitchen after a huge pan of boiling water full of pasta fell from the cooker, dousing the Rehab hitmaker in scalding water. She has since been snapped with burns on her legs, and has left fellow holidaymakers aghast by failing to cover and care for her injuries. A fellow tourist tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “Amy’s wounds looked so painfully sore – she really should cover them up or get herself under an umbrella. “They were covered in sand too. We couldn’t believe she wasn’t keeling over in pain.” But the star’s spokesman insists the wounds aren’t as bad as they look: “She’s not in a lot of pain, she’s just letting it breathe.”

Seriously, Amy Winehouse should not be allowed to be near any sharp implements, anything to do with fire or in the presence of hazardous materials. I mean, hello, the girl is a walking disaster waiting to occur. While she has been doing much better since relocating to St. Lucia, she is still LIGHT YEARS away from being out of the woods. The latest report is that she is contemplating adopting a child of her own … which is just a terrible idea. She can’t even keep herself out of harm’s way. Ack and I don’t care what she says … her burn looks like it hurts like hell. No more cooking for Amy, I’m afraid … clearly she can’t even be trusted with something as simple as boiling water. OY!

Johnny Depp Shows Off A New Tattoo

"Silence Exile Cunning"
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Johnny Depp, who recently lent his voice to an episode of Spongebob Squarepants, is currently working on the new film The Rum Diary which is currently in production in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. During one of his breaks, Johnny was spied with a new tattoo on his forearm which looks like it reads Silence Exile Cunning

… or something like that. It’s unclear to me if the tattoo is real or just a fake one for the film. Also, the last word is not very clear … it’s hard to make out. Any ideas what this new tattoo could mean?

UPDATE: Pink readers Shai, Jamie and Yoka have clarified that the quote is by James Joyce and it reads, Silence Exile Cunning. Thanks guys!!

Green Day Release New Promo Pics

'21st Century Breakdown' nears
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Here are a few new promo pics of Green Day which have been released ahead of the arrival of their new album 21st Century Breakdown:

After being out of the spotlight for the past few years, it looks like the boys are back and ready for biznazz again. I know there are hordes of fans out there anxiously awaiting their new album … and to be honest, so am I. I am a huge fan of Green Day’s early albums and remember fondly that I used to play the hell out of Dookie. While I wasn’t a huge fan of American Idiot, I can respect that the guys set out to tell a story with that album and followed it thru to the very end. While I contend that the critical acclaim might not have come so readily if it weren’t for the heavy political stance they took on the album, there is no denying that the band is extremely talented. I’m very curious to hear if the new stuff sounds much different from their earlier material. The guys are old and hopefully wiser these days … I guess we’ll have to wait and see (well, hear) if their maturity is reflected in their new album.

Gay Gardens

The TV Guide
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Not much to report on the personal front today … since the temps have been soaring into the 90s the past few days, David and I have been staying indoors behind shuttered windows just keeping to ourselves. I joked to David that we may have to start referring to our home as Gay Gardens since we’ve been kind of reclusive these last few days. The only downside to having so many large windows is that the sun amps up the heat inside our home all day long … we can’t even enjoy the beautiful sunshine when the temps get high cuz it makes our apartment get really hot. Instead, we’re hiding behind the shutters and curtains to keep the place cool … venturing out only at night. Hahahahah. Except for the animals and the craziness, we’re well on our way to turning into the crazy Jackie O. reclusive family members from Grey Gardens which, incidentally, I watched over the weekend … both the HBO movie version and the original documentary — both were superb and wholly fascinating:

To be honest, I’m OK with keepin’ things low this week … Davd and I fly out to Chicago this weekend for a few days to visit with my friends Sarah and Mark and to see another concert so I’m cool with keeping things quiet. I do want to get out and see some friends this week tho … it’s been far too long.

The plus side of all of this heat is that it’s the perfect weather for hanging out/in the pool! I might have to test the waters of our buliding’s pool this afternoon … HMMM, now where did I put my Speedo?
