Last year we learned the shocking and very sad news that actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer and, because of early detection, was able to become “100% cancer free” after making the difficult decision to undergo a double mastectomy to rid her body completely of the disease. This week, tho, new photos have surfaced of Applegate smoking a cigarette just months after successfully enduring her first cancer scare … which makes absolutely NO SENSE to me at all:

Why IN THE WORLD would anyone who has endured something as life-changing as a double mastectomy in order to rid their body of breast cancer want to tempt fate by smoking cigarettes and risk getting throat cancer? It just seems extremely dangerous and foolhardy to take up a smoking habit in the wake of a successful defeat of cancer. Obvs, it is her life and she is free to do as she pleases but I can’t help but wonder what it may feel like should she ever find out that she is sick again. Why take the chance? I’m really dumbfounded … but I do wish her well and continued health.

Paris Hilton managed to extricate herself from her new beau Doug Reinhardt long enough to make her way to the Aura Lounge in Dallas, TX on her quest to find a new BFF for the upcoming new season of her MTV competitive reality TV show Paris Hilton’s My New BFF. As you may recall, Paris kicked her supposed BFF Brittany Flickinger to the curb mere months after she won the right to become Paris‘s new BFF on the first season of her show so now she’s on the hunt for a replacement fake friend. My apologies to the folks in the great Dallas metropolitan area:

I mean … look at her! Who wouldn’t want to be this person’s BFF? Except for the fact that Paris looks like a baked potato wrapped in tinfoil while wearing a headband — she looks like a fun friend, right? Here’s hoping the herd of stampeding applicants to become her new BFF can be safely controlled. I mean, seriously, wouldn’t YOU want to hang out with this?

Everyone’s favorite couple (to love to hate or just hate, you decide) Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have emerged once again to stage step out in public to show off for the paparazzi in order to promote their latest wares. It has been quite some time since Speidi have taken their show on the road … so much so that Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt have stepped in to take their places. But now that Heidi has a couple new songs to sell online, well, it’s time for Speidi to get back in action:

The couple showed up at Cafe Med in Sunset Plaza yesterday afternoon and shamelessly did everything they could think of to get photographers to notice and photograph them. I mean, it works. Whether you’re on board with the Speidi shenanigans or you’re not, the attention savvy couple cannot be ignored (try as you might). I’m not sure if these antics actually translate into actual sales of any of their products but you can’t really blame them for trying. Heidi‘s fashion line Heidiwood is dunzo and radio airplay of Heidi‘s songs don’t seem to be inspiring folks to seek out her music in droves so … you work with what you got. Does any of this showy nonsense make you want to spend money on Heidi‘s music? Is there anything the couple could do to get you to pay up?

Last month we got our first look at comedic actresses Kristen Johnston and Kathryn Hahn in full costume on the set of the US remake of the British TV series Absolutely Fabulous here in SoCal filming their first scenes for the series. Ab Fab, as it will be called here in US, is well into production of their first eps and here is our first look at a scene from the series pilot:

I’m still a bit suspicious of this planned remake of Absolutely Fabulous … I mean, it sounds like a great idea in theory but it really all comes down to execution. I tried and tried to really love the US remake of Kath & Kim but it so pales in comparison to the original that I could never really get into the remake. That being said, I never had the same love of the original version of Absolutely Fabulous and I did for the original Aussie version of Kath & Kim. I’m willing to give this Ab Fab series a shot … it could be very funny … but, again, it all comes down to execution. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Are any of y’all looking forward to seeing this remake or are you just totally uninterested?

Fashionista extraordinaire Victoria Beckham was spotted on a shopping excursion to Dolce & Gabbana in Milan, Italy this week and homegirl was rockin’ a set of ridiculously odd shoulder pads on her person. Not since the days of Designing Women have we seen such an atrocity against fashion … behold:

I understand the jacket with the funky shoulder pads is from the design house of Balmain, which is like a totally way important designer and stuff but, c’mon … the pad have to be a joke, right? I can’t believe that any person in their right mind would really want to rock this look. VB, on the other hand, has the luxury of doing ridiculous things for fashion because it’s bound to make a splash. This jacket looks … silly. Any article of clothing that requires that you turn sideways to walk thru a doorway has got to GO. Nice try, tho, Posh.

Earlier this week we got to see an adorable new photo of Bronx Mowgli, son of Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz, that was posted by Ash on her Twitter profile page … but while Ashlee was home tending to hearth, home and baby — hubby Pete Wentz was out on the road with his Fall Out Boy bandmates enjoying a quiet night with friends in Las Vegas, NV. On Tuesday, Ashlee posted a photo of her four-month-old on the micro-blogging site, saying: “I present you my little man and his adorable cheeks!” Interesting timing as Star reports in our April 20 issue — on sale today — that Pete Wentz was getting wild in Sin City with scantily clad dancers and a boozy Slip ‘n’ Slide over the weekend. The Fall Out Boy bassist — who was without his wife of nearly one year — partied hard with about 50 band members, dancers and pals (including Girls Next Door star Holly Madison) following a sold-out show at the Palms Casino Resort on April 5. “Everybody was going absolutely crazy,” an eyewitness tells Star. “People were even drunkenly playing makeshift Slip ‘n’ Slide with a mat and lubricant. And Pete was in great spirits. He was dancing and singing along to his band’s own songs, grinding up against the dancers.” At one point he was “dancing on a pool table with the girls,” the partygoer adds.

HMMM … I wonder why Pete didn’t post any of these pics on his Twitter profile page? This party looks like a lot of fun … I wonder what else went on at this joyful soiree ;)

Today is a shorter work day for me because I have to make my way to the airport in a few hours to hop a plane bound for the East Coast. I’m meeting up with David in his native Connecticut to spend the Passover/Easter weekend with his family (mom’s side = Passover, dad’s side = Easter). Because Easter and Passover were about a month apart last year, I was not able to fly back to Connecticut for the Hauslaib Seder Dinner (I did make it out there for Easter, tho) so I’m really looking forward to this year’s fun. David and I picked up a set of Finger Puppets of the 10 Plagues of Egypt for the dinner and I can’t wait to use them:

I’ve already decided to be lice for the finger puppet fun … not really cuz I’m a fan of lice but mostly cuz the little puppet looks cute. I think David said he wanted to be Death of the First Born but I’m not too sure. I’m packing our Snuggies for the trip cuz I know it gets cold in Connecticut so … it should be a fun trip!

I have some more work to do for the next few hours and then … I’m out. But I’ll be working as usual thruout the weekend but things may be slower than usual. Woot!

Earlier today we saw that the once again red-headed Lindsay Lohan spent part of her day in the company of her younger sister Aliana Lohan yesterday and now we learn that Samantha Ronson spent part of her day with her good friend and Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden. I understand the BFFs stepped out for a coffee date after their little shopping excursion. It would seem that, as I hoped, the drama is slowly settling down from the major bust-up between L. Ron over the weekend. Lindsay is chillin’ with her sister, Sam is chillin’ with her friends … things are calming down nicely. It’s unfortunate that yesterday was so chilly here in SoCal otherwise Benji might’ve stepped out again with only his tight, sleeveless t-shirt to cover his muscular bulk but … there are many Summer days ahead to look forward to. In any event, it’s nice to see that each of the girls has a great support system in place to help them get over their sad break-up.

People.com is reporting the very sweet story of Rihanna‘s recent visit to a 6 year old leukemia patient in NYC that I just have to share. On Ri Ri‘s most recent trip to NYC (right before she flew to Barbados for her grandparents 50th wedding anniversary party), she took some time to swing by the NYU Medical Center to visit with Jasmina Anema who is suffering from “a rare and aggressive form of leukemia”. As you can tell by the photos provided, Rihanna‘s visit with Jasmina went a long way in picking up the sick little girl’s spirits:

Six-year-old Jasmina Anema is one of Rihanna’s biggest fans. So when her idol walked into her hospital room at NYU Medical Center on April 2 to visit her, the tiny leukemia patient could hardly believe her eyes. “She’s really here!” Jasmina exclaimed when Rihanna came in, shoeless, to prevent the spread of germs, and hugged her. “You are such a beautiful little girl,” the singer told Jasmina, who has a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. High doses of chemotherapy often leave Jasmina tired, says Katharina Harf, executive vice president of DKMS Americas, the bone marrow donor registry that is helping Jasmina and others find a match. “But when Rihanna walked into the room, there was no sign of that at all,” she says. “Jasmina loves Rihanna. And Rihanna fell in love with Jasmina.” Indeed, the two became fast friends, spending more than three hours talking, playing and indulging in a slumber party-like pillow fight. They even danced to Rihanna’s biggest hits including “Umbrella” and “Please Don’t Stop the Music.” “Jasmina showed Rihanna all her special ‘moves’ and tried to teach her how to do them,” says Harf. Rihanna first learned about Jasmina’s plight in early February, when she saw the moving video Jasmina’s best friend, Isabelle Huurman, and her mother, Karen Detrick, made appealing for donors to save Jasmina. Wanting to help her however she could, Rihanna put a shout out for donors on Feb. 7 on PEOPLE.com to help Jasmina find a match, which drew more than 4,000 donors. And on April 2, Rihanna flew to New York City just to visit her one of her littlest fans. The visit was supposed to last for about an hour. “But Rihanna stayed until 8 o’clock that night,” says Harf. “She would have stayed longer if Jasmina didn’t have to go to sleep.” The visit was a total pinch-me moment for Jasmina, who at one point pointed to the picture of Rihanna on her CD cover, and with big eyes, whispered, “‘Look! It’s her! Really her!!’” says Harf. Jasmina, who is a “total girly girl,” according to her mother, Thea Anema, was thrilled when Rihanna presented her with a big bag of Cover Girl makeup. “Rihanna asked me if it was okay to put makeup on Jasmina,” says Anema. “I said, ‘Of course!’ She’s so thrilled with makeup and anything girly.”

Rihanna painted the little girl’s nails and gently brushed “Dance Party” eyeshadow on her tiny eyelids. They played catch together with Jasmina’s stuffed dog, Jackie, which ended with a torrent of giggles and hugs. “Rihanna kept on saying, ‘I love her personality! She is such a little diva!’ ” says Harf. When Rihanna learned that Jasmina speaks Dutch and also understands Mandarin, the superstar said she was amazed at how “intelligent” and “what an amazing little girl” she is. Jasmina’s mom stood teary-eyed as she watched her daughter laugh and play with Rihanna. “You have no idea how much this means to her,” she told Rihanna. “It was like they had known each other forever. Rihanna is a beautiful girl” … The visit with Jasmina meant a lot to Rihanna, too. “It breaks my heart to see her go through this difficult sickness,” Rihanna tells PEOPLE exclusively. “Jasmina still hasn’t found a match and she is just one of 6,000 people suffering from leukemia or other blood cancers who search the registry every day for a life-saving match. Awww, I love this. It’s really very heartening to see Rihanna — who’s got her own stuff to deal with these days — take the time to share some goodwill to others in need. That Rihanna stayed well past the initial 1-hour allotted time is really spectacular. I’d bet anything that for those 3-hours that Jasmina got to spend with Rihanna her illness was the last thing on her mind. What a really sweet story.
