I believe in second chances. Though i don’t know if i would be able to give one out in this situation. If Chris is really going to therapy and really trying to change then why not. However, if he EVER hits her again she better be gone. A duet is a way for them to heal themselves, not make money., Though making money off it would help. I just think we need to give Chris another chance. He’s young.

ah well because he hasn’t released an album currently or a new song. So the low weekly sales of his songs and albums are still low. His last album was released like 2 years ago and his last song was Forever & that duet with Keri Hilson which was a flop (not b/c of this incident).

Time will tell if his sales will drop when he releases new material. You cannot judge his sales from old material because the popularity has already dropped from when it was new.

I believe his sales will drop, to how much is unknown. He will still get decent sales i believe from his die hard fans, it’s just whether radio will play his new stuff. Radio believe it or not can play a dramatic role in an artists sales.

Has anyone thought of emailing Puss Brown’s “people” and letting them know that the majority of the public just aren’t going to support this prick any more? Hit em where it hurts, the wallet, and it WILL hurt them. The Internet is very powerful and FAST ACTING. I saw Puss Daddy on Ellen “defending” his allowing CB and Rih to use his house to reconcile and it was just ridiculous how he danced around it. Of course, didn’t he also batter a chick once? Oh, and Usher? Talking all big and bad til someone called him up and told him to shut his mouth. Oprah is the only celebrity who has the balls to stand up to these people and it’s really sad that no one else in that field has the nads to say something bad about Puss Brown!

You know the thing is, these kids are really just kids yet. Rihanna just turned 21 and Chris is 19 and they’ve spent a good deal of their lives trying to get into this business so a sense of growing up and learning seems to have been lost on them. If they were older and more mature I don’t think we would be seeing this outcome right now. It’s young love. It’s why girls take back thier boyfriends after they’ve lied and cheated and done everything else. It’s sad that by doing so it makes it look like domestic violence is okay. I do think it’s interesting that they are already working professionally together. As I said in other posts I have no problems listening to their work, as I have no problems listening to other artists with not so great personal lives… there is a line between the professional medium and the personal situations but I don’t necessarily think a collaboration is the best thing right now. Especially if it’s a song that shows how much they love each other. Give us solo songs like Burn and Confession as Usher did that were very personal and yet you understood where the man was coming from. I don’t think this is a career ruiner but I think they need to be taking their time and planning their movements.

@Trent – You tend to show consistency across the board in many situations, so I don’t doubt that. :)

@Monica – Well, I think there’s a difference between the number of female on male violence incidents and those that are reported. Men are less likely to come forward because of a stimga attached to being beaten “by a girl”.

Listen, I understand that it happens way more to women than men. I just don’t like that domestic violence arguments always turn into focusing on specifically that situation. It’s never okay for a man to hit a woman, but it also shouldn’t be okay for a woman to hit a man.

I hate this incident being referred to as a ‘mistake’. You don’t punch somebody repeatedly in the head by mistake. A mistake is something you do by accident. When I knock a coffee cup off the counter with my elbow and it breaks, that’s a mistake. When I punch someone in the face, it’s a deliberate choice. This was a deliberate choice. In fact since he hit her more than once (and bit her a la Mike Tyson) it was many deliberate choices.

I just don’t think that her managers/publicists are behind this reconciliation. How could they be? The publicity for her is terrible and it is catastrophic for her image. She is a talented young woman who despite her immense wealth (which she has made as a solo artist) cannot stay away from this pathetic excuse for a man. She has projected and nurtured an image as a strong woman but we find out that actually she’s the opposite.

Truly, if she wanted this guy out of her life, she could have him erased from her presence permanently. She has the money and the connections to avoid him for the next decade. That is what is so pathetic about this whole story. If Rihanna can’t dump an abusive boyfriend then what does that say to all the regular women who are financially tied to abusive losers.

I don’t think anyone is asking Rihanna to stand up for the women of the world. What we want is for her to stand up for herself and have the strength to walk away from a man who punched, bit, and shoved her into the hospital. Yeah, she is young, and she has a responsibility to herself and to every young girl who looks up to her whether it’s right that they do or not.

Frankly I am tired of the “Oh they’re young, they’re going to make mistakes” excuse. And I’m appalled that you are chalking Chris Brown’s actions up to age. Going back to a batterer is a mistake. Finishing a pint of Chunky Monkey in one sitting is a mistake. Going out for a couple of beers when you have a 10 page paper due the next morning and you’ve only written your name is a mistake. What Chris Brown did was a felony.

I think we should all make a statement that domestic abuse is not okay. No matter how you dice it. Nickelodeon should grow a pair and remove them from the kids choice awards and, yes I did sign the petition. We all need to make a statement that this is a serious issue and that when a person who claims to love you puts their hands on you in violence it is not okay. They don’t get a pass or benefit of the doubt because they’re are musically talented.

Silence and complacency is what perpetuates this issue. As long as you beat your wife at home where I don’t have to see it or think about it, it’s okay? He’s innocent until proven guilty, but he has not once said I did not put my hands on Rihanna and I highly doubt that picture of Rihanna was fabricated. This kind of stuff does not help any career.

Unfortunately, Rihanna is a public figure and she has become the face of domestic abuse and of the age old tale of the woman who goes back to her batterer, thinking that one time he beat the hell out of her was a fluke.

I can’t fathom their careers going uphill from here, I mean do you really want to hear Chris Brown sing about romancing women and his BS love songs? And what on earth is Rihanna going to sing about that any of us want to hear if she stays with him?
The sad thing is their careers might remain the same or get better, people will still listen to their music and not only does that say we’re okay with domestic abuse, but we don’t care.

Nicole, I know that’s technically true and like I said, I don’t condone violence of any kind, but I volunteered at a rape crisis center for 3 years and in all that time, there was only one instance where a man felt his safety was in jeapardy and way more than I can count instances of women who were terrified for their life. In my mind, it’s just not a good comparison to make because it takes away attention from the very dire issue of domestic violence against women specifically. I don’t expect Rihanna to hold a torch for all women, although it would be nice if she decided to use this opportunity to do so, and because she is so young, I wish that someone older could step in and offer some support and advice. I really could care less about either of their careers though.

@ Monica – the tables CAN be reversed, i’ve seen it. the only difference is..women tend to use some sort of weapon. and the only reason the guy didnt defend himself was because ” a guy can never hit a girl “. he knew as soon as he laid a hand on her to defend himself, it would be him that would be judged not her.
as for Rihanna, shes what 20? we cant as her to be the person to stand up for women of the world, shes young, shes making a mistake.you cant ask her to take on the kinda responsibility. hell…there both young making a mistake. as for the careers being over, i dont think either of thier careers will be over. with both of them being young, they can move on/redeem themselves from this.

The reports are the duet is to help save Chris’ career because SHE feels bad for ruining it. I’m speachless.

Also Diddy and a few other high profile males are taking the nuetral stance of “I wasn’t there – there is two sides of the story” basically implying there is something she could do that justifies what happened to her. The whole thing is sick. The movie stars preach good will and change – then fail misreably to make an impact in a positive way when they have an actual chance.

robina, the tables could never truly be reversed because there is a huge difference between a woman beating a man and a man beating a woman. The reality is that a woman in this world has to live in constant fear of violence or rape and that is just not the case for men so there is really no basis for comparison. I don’t condone violence of any kind and of course it’s just as wrong for a woman to physically assault a man, but Rihanna is the one who’s safety is in jeapardy right now, not Chris Brown’s.

While maybe we don’t have the right to judge Rihanna for reconciling with Chris Brown b/c that is her own personal decision for her personal, private life, we do have the right to judge something their doing in the public with their public careers and images. I think it’s tacky and irresponsible for them to release a single together at this point about overcoming challenges as a couple. And it’s even more irresponsible and dispicable of their record companies to endorse / force it. If she wants to get back together with him, fine, but don’t promote someone beating someone else as just a mere “challenge” in a relationship. That will make women & girls around the world think of it in the same way. Being beaten is not a challenge – it’s wrong and who would want to promote staying in that situation?! If people choose to do that, fine, but do not PROMOTE it. That is so irresponsible and just plain sick. Their record companies should be ashamed of themselves. And while they think they are making strides towards saving his career, they are actually turning people off to BOTH of them and hurting her career as well. I know I would never listen to that single. No way.
