On The Mend
The TV Guide

Yesterday was a pretty miserable day for me … I was basically on the brink of death and it was not fun. My entire body ached and I was burning up for most of the day … fortunately, my stomach was fine so I was pretty sure my illness wouldn’t last long. David was such a doll, he took care of my every need … hot tea, cold oj and fresh fruit — he kept me from wanting to end it all ;) Obvs, we were in no mood to go out last night so we rented Vicky Cristina Barcelona on On Demand and ordered in:

While I greatly enjoyed the film overall, I honestly did not see what all the fuss was about. Sure, Penélope Cruz was great in the film but I absolutely did not think her performance was Oscar-worthy. Considering the amazing work that Amy Adams did for Doubt, I just couldn’t see it. Scarlett Johansson was the worst part of the film, I’m actually surprised the actress who played Vicky, Rebecca Hall, didn’t get more attention … I much preferred her performance to Scarlett‘s. But, as I said, I really liked the film overall … it was a nice reminder of the amazing time that David and I spent in Barcelona a couple of years ago. Fun movie, just a bit overhyped in my humble opinion.

After the movie, we watched a few eps of Sex and the City … then I downed a Nyquil shot and passed out. I could feel my fever breaking in the middle of the night and I awoke to 100% less aches. I’m not quite back to normal but I feel the worst has passed. I doubt we’ll be up for anything social today but we do need a bed … we may venture out in public after all.

haha too funny. i watched that on demand with my best friend the same night haha. But i disagree i think penelope cruz was so amazing in that role, like she was maria elena. i like that it wasnt as much of a serious role and that she got the recognition. love the movie too.

  2. debho says:

Well I’ve never understood the love for Penelope Cruz. I don’t think she can act, she’s certainly not good looking and I can never understand a damned word she says.

i agree trent. i liked the movie A LOT but dont think it was oscar worthy on any fronts. and yess scarjo sucks in it…rebecca hall was MUCh better!

  4. Ally says:

Agreed! I didn’t think Penelope’s performance was oscar-worthy either. LOVE AMY ADAMS.

  5. I thought the movie was pretty blah, not sure if it was worth the 4.50 I paid to rent it & I personally thought that the girl who played Vicki was super annoying, or maybe it was Vicki that was annoying, who knows but I do totally agree that Penelope was really good as her character but not Oscar worthy.

  6. Ford says:

Doubt = Great Movie….Vicky Cristina Barcelona= not so much

  7. Jane says:

Couldn’t agree more…I thought the movie was funny and was surprised to find out that Vicky was not Scarlett Johansson…I was under the impression that Penelope was Christina…anyway as funny as I thought Penelope was as Maria Elena I really believed Taraji deserved the Oscar IMHO =D

  8. Kim says:

    So happy you’re feeling better!!!

(Yes, that movie was WAY over-rated… Especially SJ. I agree.)

  9. Curro says:

Sorry u all! but i am from spain! in spite of here not everybody love her! Without her performance the movie will be boring… how many oscars has not be deserved by many actors and actress??? …. but the academy wanted to proclame his admiration to our Penelope

  10. pEng says:

    Scarlett Johansson *cough* suck!

  11. Anna says:

i totally agree with you. scarlett is so annoying in every bloody film she’s in… i mean, she plays the same character over and over.
rebecca hall didn’t get the recognition she deserved.
