Michael Jackson Ventures Out In Public In London

Brings the kids along for the ride
March 8th, 2009

Michael Jackson, who earlier this week announced a string of concert dates that will take place at London’s O2 Arena this Summer, ventured out in London this weekend to take his kids to a West End performance of Oliver!. Opting to leave his surgical mask and trademark pajamas at home for the outing, Jacko managed to attract a crowd of folks who were anxious to get as close to the self-proclaimed King of Pop as they could, behold:

It was just a trip to the theatre, until Michael Jackson turned up. The pop star, who is in London to launch his series of summer concerts, was mobbed by screaming fans as he took his two youngest children to see Oliver! at Drury Lane. The hysterical scenes began when he left his luxury hotel, The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge. Jackson appeared pleased by the warm reception, smiling and waving at fans. He signed autographs and shook hands before departing in a minibus. And when the flamboyantly dressed star arrived in the West End, the hysteria continued, with bemused audience members filming the crowd on their mobile phones. The youngest two of Jackson’s three children – seven-year-old Prince Michael II (known as Blanket) and 11-year-old Paris, hid their faces as they were escorted through the crowd. Paris wore an embroidered face mask, clutching the hand of her younger brother, who covered his head with a blanket. At the show, the three were joined by Jackson’s friend Mark Lester, who played Oliver in the original 1968 film. Jackson is expected to return to the U.S. this week. But he will be back in Britain in July for a series of ten performances at the O2 Arena. He has promised these dates will be his last ever in the UK, telling fans: ‘This is it.’

And the spectacle didn’t end there. After the show, the Jacksons returned to their hotel where MJ showed off his youngest son Prince Michael Jackson II a.k.a. Blanket from out his hotel window. After the jump, check out the new photo and watch video of that dangerous baby-dangling incident from 7 years ago …

As some of you may recall, Jacko made headlines a few years ago when he dangerously dangled his baby son off a balcony over a crowd of fans in a somewhat insane attempt to curry favor of the crowd.

This time, MJ decided to keep his son inside rather than dangle him over the edge:

It has been seven years since Michael Jackson turned ultra Wacko and dangled his baby son over a hotel balcony. Thankfully, he kept the windows shut yesterday as he and the same boy, Blanket, waved at fans from their suite at the Lanesborough in West London. Seven-year-old Prince II, or Blanket, brother Prince Michael, 11, and sister Paris, 10, all waved to the crowds below.

Well, at least he seems to have learned his lesson this time around. It remains to be seen if Michael Jackson “is back” but I suspect we’ll be seeing more of this normal behavior in the weeks leading up to his comeback concerts.

  2. Sonya Says:

He totally creeps me out. Gives me the heeby-jeebies :P

  3. Michelle Says:

Well at leasr he dressed normally for once while out in public… and his son is no longer wearing a blanket over his head… maybe he’s starting to see “clarity” as he hits his half century???

  4. kittycatastrophe Says:

Intentionally dragging those kids through a hyped-up crowd like that is nothing short of child abuse in my opinion.

  5. Shana Says:

@ Michelle– While I realize his attire is more normal than usual, that outfit is not to be condoned. *shudders*

  6. Joanne Says:

Child number three (I refuse to call him blanket), looks indian.
    …..
I still can’t believe he was allowed to keep his kids, especially after the baby dangling incident …
    …..
Imagine if Britney dangled one of hers? Brit would be immediately locked up, never to see her kids again … double standard much?

  7. Cella Says:

Wow he doesn’t look that bad!! I just wish he would dress normal you know alittle more like the rest of the world.

  8. Christi Says:

Well at least his face is all in one piece…a scary piece but nonetheless all there.

  9. Petra Says:

hey pink -is-the -new-blog-asshole (don’t know your name):

Michael NEVER called himself “king of pop”, it was elisabeth taylor who gave him that title, and from then on, everybody started to use it, so STOP calling him “self proclaimed king of pop” ’cause its untrue and really annoying.

  10. debho Says:

His name is Trent. He’s not an asshole. This is his blog and he can write whatever he wants. It’s not a fan club, so if you want to suck up to MJ, go find a site where you feel free to do this.
    Secondly, it’s EliZabeth Taylor.
It’s SO annoying when people can’t get other peoples’ names right.

  11. Julian Says:

Wth is your problem Petra? Exactly what Debho said, he has a name, and it’s Trent. What right do you have in calling him an asshole? Just because he may have gotten some facts wrong it warrants him being called an asshole? Grow up.

  12. Teri Says:

Trent, methinks one of your competitors has an idiot posting comments on your board!! Petra, we LOVE Trent, get a life, grow a pair, and move on. Now Trent, other than the obvious disturbing things that are always associated with MJ here’s another question, where in the world is Janet? Haven’t seen hide nor hair of her lately? Just wonderin!

  13. Nikki Says:

I don’t get it. How does the guy go from looking like death warmed over to putting on concerts?? I swear that was an impersonator at that press conference the other day! It didn’t even sound like him!
