Meet ‘The Real Housewives Of New Jersey’

Everyone loves a Jersey girl
March 18th, 2009

Bravo TV has finally revealed the cast of their new group of Real Housewives by releasing the first promo photo and the first bit of info about the ladies who will star in the networks new series The Real Housewives of New Jersey. After many successful seasons of The Real Housewives of Orange County and successful seasons each of The Real Housewives of New York City (which is currently airing in its second season) and The Real Housewives of Atlanta (NeNe Leaks FTW!), I suppose it’s high time to take the domestic real-life drama to Jersey. Here is our first look at the NJ Housewives:

Get ready for The Real Housewives of New Jersey! The newest cast of Housewives is close-knit and includes friends, a pair of sisters — who married brothers! — and their sister-in-law. The show is set to premiere May 12 (11 p.m. ET) on Bravo. From left to right, the women of The Real Housewives of New Jersey are …

Jacqueline Laurita: A former cosmetologist, she is now a stay-at-home mom, but still loves to pamper herself. She has a teenage daughter from her previous marriage and a 6-year-old son with her husband Chris, who owns wholesale apparel businesses and is brother to Caroline and Dina.

Teresa Giudice: Born and raised in New Jersey, her husband Joe owns a successful construction company. Together they have three young daughters, who take up much of her time. A friend of Dina and Caroline, she also loves to shop, get spa treatments and spend time at her beach house on the Jersey Shore.

Danielle Staub: “You either love me or you hate me, there is no in between,” says the single mom of two daughters. She prides herself as one of the first female American Express Black card members in New Jersey. She is also active in her local parish and regularly attends mass. She and Jacqueline are friends.

Dina Manzo: Founder of the nonprofit Project Ladybug, which helps children with cancer, she’s also an interior designer, an event planner, mother and best friends with her sister Caroline. Her husband Albert works with his brother (Caroline’s husband) at their family’s catering business.

Caroline Manzo: She’s a mother of three and own a real estate firm and a line of children’s accessories. Described as a “feisty spitfire,” she’s Dina’s sister and is on the board of Project Ladybug. She’s married to Albert Manzo, brother of Dina’s husband Tommy. Dina and Caroline’s brother is Jacqueline’s husband Chris.

Oh gawd, I love that one of them is a former cosmetologist … perfect! I have to say that while I am very excited for a new group of Housewives, I’m bummed that the Atlanta ladies’ next season won’t come until after the NJ ladies finish their season. I was hoping that the drama would move to Atlanta at the end of the current NYC season and that the NJ season would come after that. I know it’s terrible but I cannot get enough of these shows. The Atlanta women are my faves, followed by the NYC women. I really loathe everything about the OC ladies. Those “ladies” really represent the worst parts of people … which, of course, is why the show has been on for so many seasons (with the promise of at least one more season to come). I am really hoping that the NJ crew manage to “keep it real”. I want long fingernails, big hair and thick Jersey accents (by the looks of the dresses the ladies are wearing in their first promo pic, I don’t think we’ll be disappointed). The show looks fun … I’ll deffo be tuning in. Traditionally, the OC Housewives are photographed holding out ripe oranges. The NYC Housewives are photographed holding out delicious red apples. The Atlanta Housewives are photographed holding out plump peaches. What do you suppose the NJ Housewives will be photographed holding? Does NJ have an official fruit?

I think the fruit is blueberries!….

I had to stop watching the NY city ones….such incredible snobbery….I couldn’t handle the Countess throwing her title in everyone’s face anymore….or that wierd Simon who thinks he’s a “Housewife”….

  2. Mrs. Shermender Says:

I’m sure I’ll watch this show because I always watch these shows but I don’t know if I’ll be able to put up with a Jersey accent for multiple weeks

  3. Kate Says:

Hey Trent- I bet the Real housewives of NJ will be photographed holding a tomato!! We are well known for our Jersey tomatoes!!

  4. Margaret Says:

OMG Dina was on “My Big Fabulous Wedding” on VH1!!! remember? OOH damn I gotta watch this season!

  5. Roxster Says:

Its the garden state…they’ll think of something. Kate may be right with the tomatos….btw…did anybody else watch DWTS monday? Betheny from the NYC cast was there and you could see her in the background whenever Tom was on camera. She was so super-aware of it too it was funny, she’d stop talking to her friend, turn to face the camera, and give this really awkward smile.

  6. jess Says:

North Jersey or South Jersey? That makes a big difference!

I guess they could hold the oh-so-sexy…tomato?! lol

  7. meme Says:

why do people watch these stupid shows? i don’t get it.

  8. Kendra Says:

I can’t resist these shows, even though I get so disgusted with the women..I have to say that Atlanta is easily my least favorite..All they do is talk about how classy they are as they’re talking shiz and dressing totally tacky! Blech!

  9. Melissa Says:

The official fruit is the blueberry…but most likely, they will be seen holding tomatoes…Jersey tomatoes are fabulous,

  10. Dianna Says:

OMG real housewives ALL year long! SCORE! I have to agree with everyone, we’ll see how long we can stand new jersey accents. I never watch OC but I’m a huge fan of Atlanta followed by NYC. I can’t wait for more of Kim and her fab singing career

  11. Kate Says:

North Jersey and South Jersey are completely different. Being from South Jersey and attending school up North I can attest to this. Accents? What about the RHO NY, Long Island much?

  12. College Candy » Candy Dish: A-Rod’s a Hottie Says:

[...] The Real Housewives of New Jersey? For real!? [...]

  13. lisa Says:

    TOMATOES of course! :)

and yeah it definitely depends on whether they’re from north or south. south jersey accents are far less annoying in my opinion.

  14. Lauren Says:

South Jersey accents are sooo strange! It sounds southern to me. Most North Jersey girls like myself who are well educated do not have accents – it’s the Bayonne/Newark/Jersey City and eastern urban towns that spawn that awful “Joisey” accent. But I think I’ll watch the show to see the drama!!

  15. Lis Says:

They need to do Miami! I think that would be fabulous!

  16. mdsteelergal Says:

Well, I guess you don’t actually have to be married to be classified as a “housewive?” Anywho, this should be another tantillizing drama of women who are privileged but often lack self worth, honesty and loyalty. Wow, I tend to watch anyway if not to see the clothes, cars and houses.. How shallow am I? LOL…

  17. Cristina Mathers Says:

sick. i only know one broad from nj and she was a total and utter BITCH. maybe these ladies will change my mind that all women from nj are stupid beeotches?

  18. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

This is going to be covered in WHITE TRASH…Love it! It is like that MTV special “jeasey shores” except these are thier parents!! LOVE IT!! I love me some trashy TV!!

  19. Lana Says:

I think the OC gals are the most REAL of any of these housewives. The NY housewives are way too stuck up and the Atlanta housewives are trashy and try too hard. I can’t stand the NJ accents so I don’t think I can watch this one either. OC all the way! <3

  20. Sam Says:

i don’t know how i feel about the New Jersey season, and i’m from NJ! It could either be really good or really horrible. haha
@ Mr. Gyllenhall–> the mtv special was absolutely horrendous! those people weren’t even from the “shore”. i live at the beach and i don’t know anyone who speaks or acts like them!
haha i’m hoping that this show will be entertaining though :)

  21. Dana Says:

The girls should have tomatoes! And not all people from Jersey have a “joisey” accent! I have a feeling most of these women will be from North Jersey, LOTS of money up there!! I can’t wait to find out what towns they are from! Hope they do Jersey proud since it sounds like everyone thinks very highly of the state :)

  22. Taylor Says:

I don’t watch these shows but being that I’m from NJ I might have to tune in. I hope to god they’re not North Jersey housewives or I’ll stop watching it, South Jersey represent!!

  23. Kat Says:

This sounds like a bad idea. Are we out of classy states?

  24. Lauren Says:

I think we all know what they should be holding…

    JAGER BOMBS!!

  25. elle Says:

So I’m from Nj and I just want to clear up a few things I’ve been reading elsewhere:
    1) we’re rich in NJ, one of the richest states next to CA
    2) WE DON’T HAVE ACCENTS. No one says Joisy..I mean NO ONE.
    3) We don’t pump our gas..so if that doesn’t show we’re above all, I don’t know what does! lol

  26. Michelle Says:

OC used to be so good when it first started. Now it’s just a joke. I didn’t watch whole episodes this year because they were so mean to each other it mad me sad!

  27. sykosoo Says:

ugh. this isn’t even entertaining trash.

    JERSEY?! UGH. UGH. ugh. ughblechugh.

i mean i have nothing against jersey….i went to school in jersey. BUT JERSEY?

what’s next? real housewives in baltimore? dc? cambridge? jackson hole? denver? salt lake city? seattle? miami? fort lauderdale? come the F*CK on. i get it. there are “real” housewives…everywhere.

  28. Blair Says:

Meet the real housewifes of New Jersey…Urm no thanks.

  29. Actress Scene Says:

    Hot wives!

  30. wink Says:

they filmed in north jersey in my home town..bergen county… i watched it and know the owner of a store they filmed in let me tell you allllll fake they fake buy stuff and run around with empty clothing bags to look like they are filled and they filmed this one clothing scene all day

  31. Steve Says:

yeah it’s blueberry…but who really thinks about blueberrys when they hear NJ?

I say they all hold a thing of Salt Water Taffy lol

  32. Chella Says:

@ Dianna” Kims fab singing career” you are totally kidding right now right ??
I cannot wait to see this show I love all these shows YAY!! I wish they would do one on Pennsylvania housewives that would be fab!!

  33. Ingrid Says:

I think I’d rather watch the Real Housewives of Iowa than NJ. I still think this has to be a joke.

  34. Mona Says:

WHY do people from nj keep ending up with tv shows? they’re the trashiest, most embarrassing disgrace to our country and the fact that not only is there a show based on an entire group of people from nj, but it’s a real housewives show, is sad. i’m embarrassed that people not from here will watch this crap and think this is what all people in america are like. it’s a disgrace.

oh, and the “state fruit” of nj is jersey tomatoes.

  35. LincolnLounger Says:

Isn’t former Gov. Jim McGreevey the official fruit of NJ?

  36. Chase Says:

UGH… it should be Orange County all the time! I love those bitches.

  37. amanda Says:

Whoever said jersey folks don’t have an accent must be from jersey…that’s the only way you couldn’t hear it. I’m sure some jersey folks don’t have one, but all of them I’ve ever met have (and that’s more than a few) do! At least they sound as though they do to this southern girl. I agree with trent, tho, and say atl is the best!

  38. Alexa Says:

the middle one looks liek a younger version of Luann from NYC. And is NJ really neccessary? I mean the other 3 were very promininet places, New Jersey is an entire state.

  39. J Says:

Tomatoes. Hands down. The whole italian/New Jersey thing. It’s gotta be.

I love these bitches. @Chase – I always call the NY girls “my bitches”, as in “My bitches are on!”

Could not handle Atlanta. Ugh. NY is my fave, then OC.

  40. Lauren Says:

maybe they won’t be holding anything…maybe they’ll just pump their fists.

  41. N Says:

i’m from new jersey and i’m from a pretty awesome place… yea, there are accents in new jersey but i’m from central jersey and if we have an accent (i don’t think we do, but i understand that most people probably say that) it doesn’t sound like ‘joisey’ or whatever. yeah, there are trashy people from here just like there are trashy people in all states. everyone who is saying it’s a disgrace that there is a show about people from new jersey, look at all the other housewives… the women from atlanta, new york, and o.c aren’t much better

and to clear it up our state fruit is the blueberry, although we are known for our delicious tomatoes.

  42. Jim/ Cnarlotte, NC Says:

It amazes me the bias and misconceptions people have a NJ.
    Actually, it’s irksome.

I’m originally from SJ shore and know what the state has to offer. The Pinelands are incredibly beautiful with tall stands of white cedar trees and fauna. The beaches are considered to be some of the best and safest in the country, if not the world.

Cape May has some of the finest restaurants that can rival NYC.

I could go on but I’ll leave with a quotes, “the masses are asses.

  43. Jim/ Cnarlotte, NC Says:

Pardon the typo on the word quote(s)…first cup of coffee here.

  44. AshtonLee Says:

i am so disgusted with the trash talk about people from jersey. i was born and raised right outside atlantic city and i come from an educated and upstanding household (sorry lauren from north jersey us south jersey girls are educated just like you and yes you have an accent too…sorry everyone in the world does). everyone only sees the stereotypes they show on mtv and vh1 and dont relize that many important and honorable people have been born here. for example: micheal cristofer (tony award and pulitzer prize winner for those who dont know), micheal douglas, derek jeter, kelly ripa, john travolta, martha stewart, meryl streep, and those are just entertainers. a handfull of supreme court justices and the chairman of the 9/11 commission have all been born here. before you trash talk jersey (especially south jersey) take a look at your own state and your own problems. thanks from a true classy jersey girl

  45. AshtonLee Says:

ps elle…i loved your post. thanks for pointing out no one says JOISY. and that we dont pump our own gas..plus its cheaper in south jersey then it is in north jersey, ny, or pa.

  46. PaulaM Says:

What a joke! Seriously………….this show should be called “The Real Housewives of NORTHERN NJ/BERGEN COUNTY”. The so called “Jersey Accent” that they will probably have is pretty much the same as a NYC accent……..my brotha, my sista, my mutha, my fawtha…..you get the point. That area of NJ (Bergen) is LOADED with NYC-types who tawk that way. I grew up in southern NJ where NO ONE has that accent……the one that people around the country think we all have, like we sound like one of the Sopranos. Why couldn’t they have considered a cast from a south Jersey town, such as Cherry Hill…….Margate…….there’s lots of big money down there and gorgeous homes, too. And I’ll die laughing when they tawk about their Jersey Shore homes……..I grew up one block from the beach in Brigantine……..the best part of the Jersey Shore……..not like the central Jersey shore areas…..yuck.

  47. PaulaM Says:

LincolnLounger………I just about fell over when I read your reply (re: Jim McGreevy)………HYSTERICAL!!! HAHA

  48. my2cents Says:

I think its so funny that these people are suppose to represent NJ. I was born and raised and maybe those could have been the housewives 30 years ago but NJ is certanly more brown now and I don’t know any 100% Italians anymore!
Where is the Korean, Mexican and Mixed women that I see all over NJ. And yes I am from Bergen county and none of my friends talk like Jill from the NYC housewives – its a JAP long island accent – NOT New Jersey!

  49. kk Says:

the blonde one – second from the right – was in the million-dollar wedding show (so we know shes a reality whore) and her husband is a complete tool, every time he disagreed with her wedding ideas he would say that there would be a bunch of women lining up to use his credit card, or some nonsense like that…

  50. kk Says:

    here’s the link: http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/my_big_fat_fabulous_wedding/122360/episode.jhtml

  51. Lauren Says:

I think it’s funny the amount of pride and defensiveness people from NJ have for this state. Having lived in NJ for four years now because of college, I can safely say that I, without a doubt, could never be proud to be from this place. True, not all parts of NJ are trashy and some are actually very nice, the Jersey Shore is absolutely NOT considered “some of the best and safest beaches in the country, if not the world” unless this OPINION is coming from someone from NJ or NY. NJ is overpopulated, overrated, and overrun with white trash and guidos. I’m sorry, someone had to say it. The Real Housewives shows are already sad enough, we really don’t need one focused on New Jersey. I think everyone would be better off to take some attention off of the armpit of America.

  52. karen Says:

Anyone from anywhere has an accent. I’m from NJ and personally don’t hear an accent but I’m probably just used to it. The show will be based in Northern NJ about 45 mins from NYC. I’ve read that they were filming in the Franklin Lakes/Wyckoff area of Bergen County. This area is extremely rich and loaded with celebrities and sports stars.

I also think they’ll use a tomato. NJ is also famous for their cranberry bogs. We are known as the Garden State so I’m sure it will be something we grow here.

The accent that everyone is knocking is actually a Staten or Long Island accent. Nobody talks the way the Sopranos do. It’s Hollywood thinking that’s how the accent sounds. If you ask my opinion on who has the worst accents in the country it would be people from Bahsten or Southerners.

  53. karen Says:

All you so called people who went to college in NJ where did you go and why did you pick that school if you hate jersey so much?

  54. Cat Says:

Jersey gets such a bad rep… I mean, I can see why a lot of people think everyone here is like Janice from Friends, but that certainly isn’t true of the people I’ve known and grown up with. A lot of those stereotypes are from the shore and up by New York, but I grew up in Princeton, and I promise you that the people there and in neighboring towns do not have tacky accents, fake nails, and big hair.

  55. tara Says:

i think these girls do not represent how the state of new jersey is. i live in nj, no one really acts likes how these girls do. the housewive directors are really aiming to make it look like the sopranos. not EVERYONE is like that in New Jersey.

  56. loreta Says:

Did anyone see the sneak preview last nite what did that big chick telling someone about their family being this as thieves or something to that effect and why was that other woman I think her name is Teresa the one that has darker complexion, she was overthrowing a table and yelling at someone. Maybe it wasnt a good idea for them to be on this reality show because now the FBI may be looking at them closer maybe thats why Dinas husband is apparently not going to be on the show. I read they have real mafia connections on this blog
    http://www.realfauxhousewives.com/?paged=2

  57. Venom Says:

I can’t believe that no one has mentioned that this is the Real Mafia Housewives.
Construction in Jersey is code for Mafia.
And anyone that believes that that Brownstone place could provide enough income to buy multiple multi-million dollar homes is not very bright.
And when Guido number one Caroline made the comment about street smarts and her son owning a strip club, that pretty much said it all.
The FBI must be rubbing their hands with glee at these idiots parading all their business out in public for the world to see.
    Wait for the indictments….

  58. oldskool Says:

I absolutely agree w/the person up above me.This show is hilarious.I just like to see the FAT gal she thinks she’s so tuff.

  59. Nicki Says:

Who is the designer/brand of that great black, v-neck dress Danielle Staub is wearing in this promo shot above? Need to know! It’s fabulous. :)

  60. laquisha Says:

daniele staub was arrested in april because she cant pay her bills here is the link
