Yesterday evening at approximately 7pm PT, Prince launched his new website LOTUSFLOW3R.com for all of his fans to play with. For the price of $77, folks who signed up at the site were allowed access to the site which offers all three of his new albums — LOTUSFLOW3R, MPLSoUND and Elixir by Bria Valente — for immediate download as well as a vault of photographs and video clips (including his Coachella performance last year). I was very happy to pony up the membership fee for the site … here are a few screencaps of what the site looks like:

Trust me, I realize that paying $77 for access to a website is not easy for everyone but this is the way that Prince has been running his official websites for years now. It wasn’t that long ago that fans who paid a membership fee were given access to NPGmusicclub.com which was his last venture to disseminate music to his fans (and is no longer available online). In addition to all the music and video that is available on the site, members were also given the opportunity to purchase tickets for his three concerts this coming Saturday night and were also afforded free tickets to the Tonight Show tapings that he is doing all week long. That is how I got my tickets to attend tonight’s taping. While not everyone may be able or interested in participating with Prince‘s site in this way, I am happy to do so. I’ve been a fan of the man’s work for far too long and I have learned that this sort of access to premium content and first dibs at concert tickets is well worth the price of admission. Should news or important information be released on the site, I’ll do my best to pass along the info. I’ve been jamming to the three albums all morning long as I plan for my 5 upcoming Prince shows this week … thus far, I’m very pleased with my membership.

Well thanks for rubbing it into the noses of those who are feeling the recession….
I really don’t think Trent is rubbing anything into anyone’s noses as he said he would pass along information released on the site.
only prince could charge that kind of money for that and get people to pay it.
That is WAY TOO MUCH to charge for a website membership!!
Shame on You, Prince for charging your loyal fans that amount of money!
Anon, Trent obviously explained him perception of it *more than well enough because he knew some immature people would react that way. Nobody can rub ANYTHING in your nose- if you feel bitter, it’s up to you to turn yourself around. It’s obviously the easiest road to take and lots of people happily go down it as soon as they find an excuse, but acting like a brat doesn’t actually help your cause, recession or no recession.

I am so jealous!! I have been a fan of his immense musical talent since 1983 and would gladly pony up $77 for the music along with the extras! lucky lucky YOU!!! to be able to see him in concert! woot, i have a few times and love it!
Prince is still making music? That’s awesome. I only have a few of his classics on my iPod but if I had a (free) chance to see him in concert, I would jump on it.
$77…no prob. I’ll just enjoy the downloads later from mininova.org, for the low low price of free.
….I was lucky just to be able to pre-oder the CDs from Target….go me!! I’m a long time Prince fan though, that’s the only reason I did that much! :)
That website looks like Lisa Frank threw up all over it.
@Kerry, I was just thinking that it looks like one of those black light posters you see at Spencer Gifts. LOL!
@ Kerry- LOL I was thinking “now where have I seen those pics before?!” Makes me wish I was in elementary with my cool folders again ;)
Very Lisa Frank but also very Prince :-D
Great interview w/Prince!

Check out the 2nd to last paragraph. Priceless. Or $77.
It is a steep price for 3 albums, which probably suck, and some access to pictures and some video. Prince should be ashamed right now. He should have ponied up and gave it away for free as his contribution to the horrible economy. Entertainer do play their part in society, they should do their part to. Prince hasn’t been relevant in a decade. But at any rate shame on him.
I have loved princ3 sinc3 i was first interduced to him by a girl friend of mine in jr high. Sinc3 than h3 has been all that i will ever download to listen to. Allthough i hav3 not always been happy with all of his work. My lov3 4 him will never chang3. I cant afford th3 w3bsit3 but i do have his cd’s. I loved watching him on th3 tonight show and wish it wer3 m3 that h3 gav3 his gitar to. A tru3 fan of his would support him in the good times and th3 bad. As h3 said in one of his songs “Just lov3 m3” and i do.
