Howard K. Stern Busted!
California Attorney General Jerry Brown has indicted the late Anna Nicole Smith’s former lawyer and longtime partner Howard K. Stern, along with two of her former doctors, on charges that they illegally devised a plan to use fake names in order to obtain “thousands” of prescription pills for her before her death. Upon hearing of the indictments against them, Stern and one of the doctors voluntarily turned themselves in to police last night and were immediately arrested and booked on charges. Another doctor who is facing the same charges is reportedly expected to turn himself into police on Monday. Here is Stern’s mugshot:
Anna Nicole Smith’s longtime partner and attorney, Howard K. Stern, and a doctor were jailed Thursday on charges of conspiring to furnish drugs before her death in 2007, authorities said. Another doctor facing charges was expected to turn herself in Monday, authorities said. The doctors and Stern devised a plan to use fake names so that Smith could be prescribed “thousands of pills,” California Attorney General Jerry Brown said. “She was obviously addicted,” Brown said. “These doctors had a medical obligation to prescribe medicine in a professional way. Evidence will show this did not happen.” Smith, 39, was pronounced dead February 8 after being found unconscious in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino near Hollywood, Florida. The former Playboy playmate and reality TV star died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. At the time of her death, several prescription medications — both in Smith’s and Stern’s names — were found in the room. Officials said prescription and over-the-counter drugs were found in Smith’s system, including three antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs. Also found in toxicology testing was human growth hormone and chloral hydrate, a sleep medication, officials said. Stern, 40, and doctors Sandeep Kapoor, 40, and Khristine Eroshevich, 61, were each charged with eight felonies, including conspiring to furnish controlled substances, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and obtaining fraudulent prescriptions from June 2004 to January 2007 — only weeks before the playmate’s death. Kapoor and Eroshevich were each also charged with obtaining a prescription for opiates by “fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.” Each was also charged with one count of obtaining a prescription for opiates by giving a false name or address, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Stern and Kapoor were arrested Thursday, Brown said. They were being held in lieu of a $20,000 bail. Eroshevich was to turn herself in Monday, Brown said. Smith was buried in the Bahamas on March 2 next to the grave of her son, Daniel, who died in September, days after the birth of her daughter, Dannielynn.
I have always contended that Howard K. Stern is a crook. From the first moment he weaseled his way into Anna Nicole’s life and basically took control of her affairs (when she was suing the family of her late husband, oil business executive and billionaire J. Howard Marshall for her share of his estate in the mid 90’s) I knew that he was a shady character. When it was reported that Anna Nicole Smith had overdosed on drugs (not long after her son fatally overdosed on drugs) resulting in her death, I had a feeling that something like this would eventually come to light. As you may recall, TMZ reported that a refrigerator full of liquid methadone and Slim Fast was found in the room where her dead body was discovered … and Howard K. Stern’s name was found on some of the prescription bottle labels — pretty damning evidence. None of this surprises me in the least. I think I’m most surprised that it took 2 years for these charges to be leveled against Stern and these crooked doctors. I am a stern believer in karma and I honestly believe it is time for Howard K. Stern to pay. May justice be served and may Stern get locked away for a very, very long time.

This slimeball is getting what he deserves. That poor woman was a victim of all the people who leeched off of her for years. She was no saint, but she didn’t deserve what happened.

I would comment on this, but what more can I say that Trent has’nt already stated for me word for word!?! I have ALWAYS thought that Howard K. Stern was to blame for Anna’s demise… and I still think he had some part in Daniel’s death as well!! Why it has taken this long for him to get caught is beyond me… but it is good to FINALLY here that justice is being served!!! I’m just glad her baby daughter didn’t end up in his care… though I’m still not sure that she ended up in the best place!!!

I don’t think he’s a “shady” character. I think he got caught up in ANS, I think he loved her and the only way he could tag along was on HER terms. He was her bitch. A stupid bitch maybe but not criminal.

I don’t think that Howard had anyone in mind other than Anna when he got caught up in this. I honestly believe he loved her and did whatever he could for her, even if he enabled her addiction. He hasn’t gotten anything from Anna’s estate since she passed away… But look at Larry Birkhead! A casual fling accidentally gets her pregnant, and ends up being his lifetime meal ticket!

I have always thought he was shady as well and also played a part in her son’s death. I also think Britney was headed in that same direction untill her family stepped in. Unfortunately Anna didn’t have anyone to save her.

I don’t think he meant for her to die. With that said he is a shady character and when you break the law you deal with the punishment! Unforch for him someone died because of his actions and now he must pay the piper!!

I agree with Trent. Altho he did seem like a timid bitch on the Anna Nicole Show which I loved.. I just can’t wait to see the movie and hope there is truth in it!!

Blah.. I don’t think that Dannilynn should be locked away to live a ‘normal’ life, because if her mom weren’t dead, Dannilynn would be getting all that attention (and more), ANYWAY. Larry must not have her in the spotlight too damn often, or I would have seen a lot more of her. (I haven’t seen much at all about Dannilynn)…. And besides, if he locked her away, none of us could see how adorable she is, and that she is doing well! (and that would kinda suck).
I think she’s getting way less fame than she would have, if her mom had been alive… and Larry could do WAY MORE, to use Dannilynn for a meal-ticket, but I don’t think he’s done that much, really. Octopussy seems more of an attention whore than he does, to me. I also think that Howard WAS ANNA’S Bitch – and he (and Larry) were WILLINGLY ’slaves’ to Anna’s desires…… She wasn’t completely stupid. She obviously liked to “get her buzz on” and Howard helped her get it. (I know guys who have done more pathetic things than that, to win a girl over)……

Daniel’s death needs to be re-investigated … he had spoken to a lawyer about his fear of Howard K Stern.
