Dinner On The Town
No big news from yesterday … David and I spent most of the day working and I was waiting for a package from Amazon to arrive (which never did cuz it was sent to my old address … blah … now I have to truck my cookies out to Van Nuys to pick it up … but that is neither here nor there) but we did manage to get out of the house last night to have a nice, quiet dinner alone at Rambutan Thai in Silver Lake. Seriously, that place is my fave Thai restaurant ever … I can’t get enough. The duck curry is TO DIE FOR … okay, I have to stop talking about it cuz I’m craving it all over again ;)
That was pretty much our night … later this evening, I board my plane for Texas as I will be at SXSW for the rest of the week. I’m bummed to be leaving David behind but I am really, freakin’ excited to see Tori Amos on Thursday night. While I’m excited to see a bunch of other bands, Tori is the highlight for me. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll be going big at SXSW this time … it’s my first trip so I’m not sure what to expect. I want to continue working every day as usual so I’m prolly only gonna do one or two shows per night. It’d be really fun to to go to all the shows I’d like to but there’s no way I can do that and work every day. Mebbe I’ll find a happy medium. In any event, I ask for your patience for the rest of the week. I’m not sure how things are gonna go down once I get to Austin but I’m very excited to find out. Hopefully I’ll get to meet a few Pink readers along the way … should be fun!!

do you have a badge? if so, then get to tori’s show early. venues fill up quickly and people with badges get in first, then people with wrist bands and if they have enough room, people who will pay the huge cover get in. sometimes wrist bands don’t even get in because the badges fill up the venue. it’s pretty intense. earlier the better, especially for a big artist like tori amos.
it always rain during sxsw. texas is always hot but it always rains once during sxsw so bring an umbrella. also wear sunscreen.
i have a ton more advice if you need it! i’ve been attending 5 years now.
good luck and hopefully i’ll run into you!

@Sarah — yep, got a badge to ensure I don’t miss Tori, will I see you there?

i’ll try but my newspaper could only get me a wristband, but i’m sure we’ll run into each other on the street. i’m gonna be all over the place.

Trent! I’m so excited you’re coming to Austin. I live here so I’m hoping I can scope you out downtown at some point. Let any of us Austinites know if you have any questions; there are a TON of good restaurants down here and cool places to visit, so I want to make sure you know where the good stuff is. Plus, you could always make your way over to the lovely University of Texas campus if you get a chance ;)

Welcome to Austin Trent! Its perfect weather and SXSW is in full swing – just an FYI, there is a secret Janes Addiction show Sat night at Pangea – Perry is technically the only one listed but rumors are swirling that is going to be the full band! Hope you have a great time and I know you will be back – everyone loves Austin!
