It’s been an ice age since we’ve seen Benjamin McKenzie on the small screen (when last we saw him on TV he was the bad boy from The OC) but NEVER FEAR … he’s back. The struggling network NBC is premiering a new series called Southland which features Ben in the role of Ben Sherman, mall cop police officer. McKenzie is paired up with character actor Michael Cudlitz who you may recognize as the “douchey” guy from Beverly Hills, 90210 … among other “douchey” roles he’s played on other shows. My guess is that he plays a “douchey” cop in this series but that is unimportant right now. Here are a few photos of Ben and Michael standing around and posing in their police uniforms on the SoCal set of Southland this week:
Lawd … I could really get into seeing Benjamin in a cop uniform from week to week but I fear that this show won’t be able to keep my interests beyond that to keep me coming back week after week. Nothing that NBC has put on the air in recent weeks and months has really grabbed my attention. Kath & Kim just had its season finale and I was so blah about the whole season. Mya Rudolph was a great mid-season addition but, overall, the show just doesn’t entertain me. Heroes, I’m sorry to say, hasn’t been interesting to me for months. I still have the last 5 eps saved on my DVR but just can’t be arsed to watch them … I don’t care any more. David and I watched Kings on Sunday night … didn’t do a thing for me. There is so much other interesting stuff to watch that I don’t even think about NBC anymore. I’m willing to give Southland a try but … I’m not holding my breath. What do y’all think … is the sight of Benjamin McKenzie in a cute little cop uniform enough to get you to tune in? Any OC old-skoolers in the hiz?

anyways, my point for commenting was i saw the preview for this show and saw benjamin and started flipping out. i’ve missed him! i hope this is good

Ahh its nice too one of the old O.C cast getting work especially him. We know the acting thing isnt working out too well for Rachel Bilson and Misha Barton, but whatever happened to Adam Brody!?

Yes, I love me some Ben McKenzie and I am definitely an OC old skooler. Still, I’m not sure what if anything will make this show stand apart. Don’t we have enough cop/lawyer/etc shows?
Ya’ll really think he’s cute?! I always thought it was odd that he (a 30-something year old man) can play a 16-year old boy. Maybe that’s why I’ve never found him appealing? I don’t know, none the less, he’s a good actor. The O.C. was a guilty pleasure of mine for the first 2 (or was it 3?) seasons, but then it TOTALLY went down hill. I did see Marissa die, though. :(
He wasn’t “30-something year old man” when he did the OC, he was 24. Adam Brody was 23…

Hmmm Trent actually this vol of Heroes is really good IMO, way better than awful S2 and less confussing than Vol 3 , give it a chance plus next episode is the return of Bryan Fuller :)

Totally makes it worthwhile watching the premiere (on mute). But seriously Trent, 30 Rock and The Office are gold! I think NBC’s been sucking it for years but those two shows do kinda make up for the poop sandwich that is their drama offerings.
