Another Sarah Michelle Gellar Film Goes Straight To DVD
Do you see a pattern emerging?

Alas … it appears that Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s constant attempts to make it as a big name movie star continue to fall short of her intended goal. SMG‘s new film Possession, which was to be released in theaters has been demoted to a straight-to-DVD release hitting stores on May 12:

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Sarah Michelle Gellar film ‘Possession’ to Blu-ray on May 12th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Technical specs have yet to be announced at this time, though you can expect the typical 1080p AVC and DTS-HD Master Audio treatment from the studio. Special features have also yet to be announced at this time, but we expect to hear more soon.

Sad. It’s such a shame that SMG decided to end Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s TV run because she wanted to make movies … and this is what’s become of her movie career. I don’t know why but she seems to keep making the same shitty horror film over and over over again. First there was The Grudge, then The Grudge 2, then The Return, then Possession … it’s like her movie career is stuck on repeat. Here’s hoping her other film scheduled for a theatrical release, Veronika Decides to Die, makes it to the big screen. You know … a bet a big screen adaptation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (well another one with 100% less Luke Perry) would deffo make it to theaters. I’m just sayin’.

    The poster makes no sense!
I was really looking forward 2 this movie, I love Lee Pace.
But the poster doesn’t work, it has nothing 2 do w/ the movie 4rm what Ive seen 4rm the trailer. Selling the film as another Geller horror flick won’t work people

at this point playboy is in her future if she wants to hit the snooze bare on her career.

After reading Lambman’s comment, I checked out the movie’s imdb write up. Go figure: it really is categorized as a thriller/romance, seeming to lean towards the latter. It doesn’t seem like it’s a horror movie at all.

My guess, especially coupled with the above poster, is that poor SMG was typecast as the Buffy character. I know a lot of us loved that show, but, it sucks for her since she can’t seem to get away from it. I know I’d be pretty bummed if I was stuck doing the same kind of work for the rest of my life.

item 1) isn’t she supposed to be SMP now? 2) whoever said she should try to get some supporting roles is totally spot on. Deffo in a comedy or something. That would show that she has a little versatility! AND DON’T TELL ME SCOOBY DOO!!

  5. Michael says:

Maybe the fact that she can’t act has something to do with it? No range at all. The only part she can play is SMG. And that Michael Jackson nose of hers doesn’t help either.

  6. Ashley says:

Can’t act? Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding me. I’d advise you to go back and watch Season 5 of Buffy, especially the darker episodes in which her mother is sick and passes away. Sarah was awesome.

  7. JS says:

The best film she ever did was Cruel Intentions, I don’t what the hell happened after that. That was a great performance, she stole the show!

ill always and forever be a fan, as im sure you will too trent. it is sad that shes not having as much success as she deserves. soon, i hope.

I don’t get why so many actors are ashamed of any “pop culture” work they’ve done. In your private life, or the independent circuit, you can practice your craft (writing, acting, directing, whatever) to your own personal fulfillment. You can make a crap load of money by whoring out yourself like Adam West, William Shatner, anyone who’s been in anything.

No, instead they need recognition from a fickle public. Here’s a tip, Sarah – HAVE FUN WITH BUFFY. Make that movie everyone wants to see, invest the money, and make a bunch of “serious” indie films so you feel better in the morning. Lord knows that’s what I’d do, but I’m an average actor at best.

She’s married to that untalented prick Freddie Prinze Jr., not being much of a talent herself, she has already failed.

  11. sarah says:

have you ever seen “the air I breathe”? really great movie and she’s just as great in it too.

  12. Hannah says:

Ashley, I’ve watched Season 5 numerous times, in the middle of it currently actually and no, she can not pull it off. It’s hollow.

  13. Charles says:

I think that Sarah has gotten it into her head that she needs to do a lot of smaller “Indie” movies to prove her acting chops. Or maybe she was told this by her agent. Who knows? Anyway, I actually quite liked The Air I Breathe. Also, the Return was pretty good, in a lowkey kind of way. But The Grudge? And Scooby Doo? A paycheck, nothing more.

Regarding a Buffy movie, I think they all do it it. Make up does wonders for the age. Dawn would be grown up (MIchelle has become quite the hottie), Willow would be an earthy, mature witch, Xander would be all Nick Fury, and Buffy? Well she would be Slayer Prime and probably totally clueless to what the new, younger Slayers would be saying. But damn what a movie it would be….

  14. Hannah says:

I agree the movie would be amazing. I would hope they wouldn’t put Kennedy in it as well. I can. Not. Stand. Her.

  15. rupertgiles says:

wonder if spike would be in it hes like 50 now.

  16. Ally says:

Wow that really sucks. I like SMG, but LOVE Lee Pace. And goodness knows he’ll be needing paychecks.

  17. Raz says:

SMG is a very good actress that just needs better roles. Don’t forget, she also won a Daytime Emmy. And as for her “Michael jackson nose” as someone else posted, I think it’s cute. It would be great to see her in Playboy but I don’t think there is any chance of that.

  18. Brooke says:

Whatever. SMG cannot act to save her life and she isn’t exactly a face that would launch a thousand ships either. The only thing she’s really good at is playing a bitch (probably because it’s so close to home). I wouldn’t have cared to see this movie had it hit theatres anyway. Buffy was good but that was because she had a great supporting cast to lean on. All by her lonesome, Sarah is a terrible, terrible overactor.
