Chris Weitz, director of the upcoming movie The Twilight Saga: New Moon, was spied having a power lunch with a few new castmembers from this new film. Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Tyson Houseman and Taylor Lautner (who we already know will reprise his role as Jacob Black) joined Weitz for a bite to eat in Vancouver, Canada (where the film is currently in production) yesterday afternoon. It is being reported that the new castmembers, the ones who are playing Native American parts, are actually Native American themselves. Here are a few pics from yesterday’s summit … be warned, the following report may contain spoilers for those of you who have yet to read the book:

Summit Entertainment has brought on a cast of American Indian actors to star in the werewolf and vampire-themed “New Moon,” the sequel to “Twilight”. The studio has hired Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman to form the ensemble Wolf Pack, who in Stephenie Meyer’s novel take the side of the humans in their fight against the evil breed of vampires. All five will make their big-screen debuts in the film. Taylor Lautner previously had been cast as Jacob Black, also a member of the Wolf Pack. Summit noted that all of the actors are of American Indian descent, with Sioux, Purepecha and Hualapai among the tribes represented. Meyer made the announcement on her Web site after weeks of rumors that director Chris Weitz was close to casting members of the Wolf Pack.
I understand that it was very important for the studio to hire Native American actors for these roles, which I think is a very smart move. Not only does hiring Native American actors give new opportunities to actors that may not get much work already but it will also give the film a level of authenticity. I’m pretty sure we won’t be seeing any of these young gents in any wolf costuming … that is, until the movie comes out in November … but it’s nice to see that they look like a handsome bunch. Do these guys look like the Quileute characters you envisioned from the book?

…interesante!!
hot hot hot!!!
I’m glad they really made the effort to bring in Native American actors….i read somewhere they brought in the casting director from Dances with Wolves and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee so they had someone who was familiar with Native American actors. These guys don’t exactly match the characters as I envisioned them, but I think its close enough. Plus we’ll see what happens once they get them in costume….Love how Taylor’s trying to rock the pea coat like Edward haha, too bad it looks a little big on him. I hope he keeps lifting! All these guys have to look massive!
wow. This story is so old. These pictures were up Weeks ago! Way to stay on top of the “news” Trent.
LOVE IT!!
Well, so far, so good! They look like they can pull it off. I know for a fact if they picked people who weren’t really Native American people would be pissed so it’s a very smart move not to add anything controversial.
<3 to my native americans!!! AHHHH despite the fact that i am NOT a huge fan of twilight…i LOVE that there’s a native american tribe highlighted in the series!
Actually those are new pics! They we’re taken like yesterday, being a blogger myself I was waiting for my sources to get a hand on it! You beat me to it trent haha!
I was waiting for my latest news on the Twilight Saga..good to see some FRESH pictures! I’m assuming the kid with the glasses could possibly play Seth Clearwater?!?
Do they have any idea where in Vancouver the crew hangs out?
When ever i see a picture of Taylor Lautner he always looks like he cant believe his luck.
Tami? I was thinking the same thing…
I heard they were just filming in Tofino (which they’re back from), and now they’re filming around UBC… but aside from that, I haven’t heard much.
I saw these pics last week.
@hmmm…
whatever… some people have personal lives. perhaps trent was waiting for the OFFICAL announcement from summitt before posting since, oh, i don’t know there have been about a thousand rumors about the cast so far.
we love ya, trent… keep up the great work!!!
You can read all about the new “wolf pack” at Stephenie Meyer’s site: http://stepheniemeyer.com/newmoon_movie.html
PS – Roxter, you’re right. They did bring in the casting director from Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and Dances With Wolves. The announcement on Stephenie’s website goes into detail about which tribe they’re descended from.
This lunch actually occurred last week. Here’s proof!(http://www.newmoonmovie.org/20.....vancouver/)
The confirmation of who will be in the wolf pack from Summit is a couple days old.
