Britney Spears Wants YOU To Know That Kohl’s Is Having An Easter Sale

30-50% off!
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Earlier this month we learned that Britney Spears had been chosen as the 2009 Candie’s spokesperson and that she would be appearing in the clothing line’s ad campaign in the coming year. Over the weekend, Britney’s first Candie’s ad appeared in newspapers around the country alerting us to the fact that Kohl’s department store — which is the exclusive home of Candie’s apparel — is having a MEGA 3-DAY EASTER SALE. Here is what Britney’s newest Candie’s ad looks like:

While it’s great to see Britney back in the position of appearing in major advertisement campaigns, I think I was expecting a bit more from her first ad. Candie’s tends to put out really colorful, really vibrant ad campaigns … and this one is just … flat. I think mebbe the ad doesn’t really work for me because it was printed on newspaper but even the photo isn’t all that impressive. I hope that future Candie’s ads that feature Britney have a little more oomph to them.

The LA Galaxy Open Their 2009 MLS Soccer Season

At least David Beckham was there in spirit cardboard
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The LA Galaxy opened their 2009 MLS Soccer season over the weekend in a match-up with DC United at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA and managed to pull out a last-minute 2-2 tie. As y’all might be aware, David Beckham was NOT in attendance for the Galaxy’s season opener this weekend because he has opted to remain in Italy to play with his new team AC Milan. Becks was kinda at this weekend’s Galaxy game in spirit, tho … the club put up a life-size cardboard cut-out of Beckham so that folks could pose for photos with “him”. Tho, not everyone who attended this weekend’s game seemed to be a fan of Beckham and his traitorous treatment of his team. Here are a few pics from the Galaxy season opener and a run-down of the game highlights:

Landon Donovan scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-2 tie with D.C. United on Sunday in the MLS opener for both teams. Christian Gomez and Chris Pontius scored for D.C. United, which built a 2-0 lead after 62 minutes before Donovan brought his team all the way back. “Landon is going to get better,” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. “His fitness has to get better and he has to get a little sharper on the ball. But over the next month or so, we expect Landon really to get into good form.” Donovan, who led Major League Soccer with 20 goals last year, broke the shutout with a penalty kick in the 80th minute. United’s Rodney Wallace committed a handball in the penalty area to give the Galaxy the kick. Then in the 86th minute, Donovan tied the score by beating three defenders and heading Kyle Patterson’s left-wing crossing pass from six yards. “On the second goal, I took a chance and made a run into a good spot,” said Donovan, who added that playing with Germany’s Bayern Munich for two months helped him anticipate plays. “When the right service comes, a ball gets knocked down or a play breaks up, I’m ready for it,” Donovan said. “I’ve been sharper in trying to take advantage of opportunities that aren’t necessarily great chances but can become good.” Gomez made a penalty kick in the 44th minute after being fouled in the penalty area by the Galaxy’s Dema Kovalenko. Pontius, a rookie from UC Santa Barbara, scored his first goal in the 62nd minute on a curving 18-yard shot. “I think the second goal actually woke us up,” Donovan said of Pontius’ score. “At the beginning of the second half, we came out a little bit timid and unsure.” D.C. United’s Ben Olsen played his first game since June 29. Olsen, who was replaced in the 72nd minute, missed all but one game last season because of slow recovery from ankle surgery.

Eh, not a bad way to start the season. A tie may not be a win but it’s loads better than a loss … so I’ll take it. Altho it still smarts that David Beckham managed to weasel his way out of playing with the soccer team that he committed to, I suppose I am looking forward to his return to the fold in a few months. That said, I’m not sure that many other people are really all that interested in welcoming him back. As you can see from the last picture above, not everyone is a David Beckham fan these days. I also find it interesting that this Sports Illustrated report made NO mention of Becks at all … they didn’t even mention that he ditched his team. Perhaps Beckham’s hasty exit from the LA Galaxy will end up being the best thing for everyone. Soccer fans here in LA don’t seem to be missing him all that much and he clearly would rather be elsewhere. All we need, apparently, is a cardboard cutout to stand in for him and folks look happy enough. I seem to recall that Beckham’s play with the Galaxy wasn’t all that impressive anyway. Mebbe the team should give his spot on the bench to his cardboard likeness?

Natasha Bedingfield Got Hitched!

'Unwritten' no longer
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Congratulations goes out to popstar Natasha Bedingfield who got married to her longtime boyfriend/fiancée Matthew Robinson in an outdoor ceremony in Malibu, CA over the weekend. The couple said I Do at the Church Estates Vineyards at around 5pm on Saturday in front of a small gathering of 150 people. Here are a few pics from Natasha’s nuptials and some deets about the ceremony:

Natasha Bedingfield is a married woman! The “Unwritten” singer wed California businessman Matthew Robinson in an outdoor ceremony at the Church Estates Vineyards in Malibu on Saturday, PEOPLE has confirmed. Shortly after 5:30 p.m. local time, about 150 guests watched Bedingfield walk down a grassy lawn on an aisle decorated with rose petals in a white strapless gown by Vera Wang with a veil. She had four bridesmaids and one flower girl, and walked back down the aisle to Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March.” The 30-minute outdoor ceremony took place by the vineyard’s chateau overlooking the ocean.

Aww … so sweet! Lurve is deffo in the air these days … every time you turn around, someone else is gettin’ hitched. I’m deffo a fan of Natasha’s music … she’s fun and poppy and it’s damn near impossible to get her song Unwritten out of your head once you hear it. Much love and congrats goes out to Natasha and Matthew on their nuptials. May they have a long and very happy life together!!

A Sneak Peek At ‘Where The Wild Things Are’

New production photos hit the Internets
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Last week we got our first look at the movie poster for the upcoming Spike Jonze film Where The Wild Things Are, which is the first big screen live actioni adaptation of the classic children’s book by author Maurice Sendak. Thus far, not much of the actual movie has been seen … that is, until USA Today got their hands on some promo photos from the film that give us our first really good look at what the movie will look like … behold:

Who’s Max? Why, Max is Max. Max Records, 11, is the boy with anger issues who escapes to a land where giant beasts roam in Where the Wild Things Are, the film version of Maurice Sendak’s 1963 storybook classic. Such same-name casting is the type of coincidence that could only happen to a filmmaker who once placed a portal in an actor’s head in Being John Malkovich. “It’s just fortuitous, kismet, circumstance,” says Spike Jonze, who cast Max after a director friend sent him a tape. “I can’t imagine anyone else playing Max. Max is the soul of the movie. He’s a very special sort of kid. Deep and thoughtful. Sweet and sincere.” Audiences will get a chance to check out both Maxes on Friday in a trailer accompanying Monsters vs. Aliens. The Portland, Ore., sixth-grader spent four months on the film, which was shot outside Melbourne, Australia. His parents — Shawn, a photographer, and Jenny, a librarian — along with brother Sam, 7, joined him Down Under. Max has been in videos for Death Cab for Cutie and Cake but has almost no performing experience other than a bit part in school “that was pretty pathetic.” Save for Star Wars, he says, “I wasn’t a huge movie person. I’m not into what won the Oscars this year.” What he is into is books, and Wild Things is one of his favorites. “It’s sort of different and not a simple story.” Max, who also can be seen in The Brothers Bloom (May 29), would like to continue to act. “But not gigantic parts. I’m in school and stuff. It’s too disruptive.” He did get some encouragement — from Sendak himself. “I got to meet him last September,” he says. What did the author say to him? “Good job.”

The more I see of this movie from promo photos the more desperate I am to be able to see the movie in full. The Where The Wild Things Are book is deceptively simplistic. There isn’t much text and, to me, the story is really told in the illustrations in the book. Because the story is about one child’s imagination, the possibilities for a full-on movie are limitless. I have full faith that Spike Jonze will be able to fortify the story that we all know and love and expand upon the world that Max creates in his bedroom. While I didn’t wear wolf costumes when I was a kid, I did like to wear my Batman pajamas and pretend that my room was the Bat Cave. Where The Wild Things Are really speaks to the spark of imagination that exists in us all. I’m really anxious to see Jonze vision of the tale on the big screen. October seems like a lifetime away but we will get to see the first video footage from the film ahead of showings of Monsters vs. Aliens, which opens this weekend. I cannot wait.

Lauren Conrad’s Clothing Line Is Dunzo?

Poor sales reportedly cause the line to go on "hiatus"
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Uh oh! It would seem that not even the princess of reality television is immune from the effects of the struggling US economy … according to Page Six, Lauren LC Conrad was forced to put her clothing line, The Lauren Conrad Collection, on “hiatus” due to the fact that no one is buying. As a result, LC has decided to halt production of future designs and rather revamp the line for possible relaunch later on in the future:

LAUREN Conrad’s clothing line is on hiatus until further notice. Los Angeles sources say the MTV reality starlet, who’s wrapping up her last season on “The Hills,” won’t be producing any more seasons of her Lauren Conrad Collection, which launched in fall 2007. Some showrooms got a message from her camp saying, “In light of the economic climate, Lauren has decided to completely rethink her line.” As a result, shipment of the last spring and summer delivery has been canceled, the memo said. Page Six previously reported that the line wasn’t moving in stores like Kitson and Bloomingdale’s. “Lauren is going to revamp her line and design with more high-end fabrics . . . things she couldn’t do the first time around,” a source close to Conrad said. Her rep told us, “With everything going on in the economy and in her life, she wants to rework her line and offerings. She will make announcements soon.”

Not that LC really needs any more money but I’m sure it’s a bit stressful to have a huge venture like this struggle and flail to the point where the decision has to be made to pull the plug and cut one’s losses. It’s entirely possible that The Lauren Conrad Collection might return one day with new fashions to sell but it’s also very possible that the line could go the way of the Heidiwood Collection (Heidi Montag’s clothing line) and be dunzo for good. LC’s rep says that she will “make announcements soon” so we may be giving the line a hearty Peace the Spork Out very soon. What do y’all think … are we sad for LC’s loss?

Newlyweds Mandy Moore & Ryan Adams Arrive In SoCal

You can't hide that rock forever, Mandy
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Mandy Moore and new hubby Ryan Adams, who were wed a couple of weeks ago in a secret ceremony in Savannah, GA, made their way to SoCal this past weekend for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. R-Andy M-Adams. Upon arrival at LAX Airport, Mandy quickly shoved her left hand into her jeans pocket in order to try hide her wedding ring but, invariably, ended up letting the ring show anyway:

I’m not entirely sure why she felt the need to try and hide her ring. Her spokesperson confirmed the news that she and Ryan got married so it’s not really a secret. She really shouldn’t be scared by the rock that she’s got … she should proudly show that thing off! I’m still having a bit of a difficult time accepting that Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams actually got married … especially considering the long list of women that Ryan has been attached to over the years (Parker Posey, Leona Naess, Winona Ryder and on and on). But finally it was sweet little Mandy (who has a substantial list of exes of her own — Andy Roddick, Wilmer Valderrama, Zach Braff, DJ AM) who ended up winning his heart, tamed the savage beast and got him to say I Do. They do make a cute couple (tho, I’ve always been pulling for Ryan and Leona Naess to end up together … they both seems so perfectly jaded together). I really hope they’ll be making beautiful music together for many, many years to come.

Alyson Hannigan Continues To Be Pregs, Cute

Aly & Alexis Denisof take the bump grocery shopping
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Alyson Hannigan and her hubby Alexis Denisof did a bit of grocery shopping this weekend in Brentwood, CA to pick up a few essentials from Whole Foods. As you can see from this set of photos, Aly is still pregs … in fact, she looks very pregs and lookin’ like she’s on the verge of birthin’ her baby. As always, she looks radiantly beautiful and by the look of that smile on her face, she appears to be enjoying every moment of her pregnancy:

I’m not sure if it was intentional or not but the fact that Aly and Alexis matched their outfits is kind of adorable. It won’t be long before we get to see photos of these two pushing along a baby pram with their new bundle of joy safely tucked away. We have no idea when exactly we might expect the birth of little baby Hannigan-Denisof but I suspect it won’t be long now. Bump watch continues … for now.
