Benjamin McKenzie Isn’t A Cop, He Just Poses As One On Set

It’s been an ice age since we’ve seen Benjamin McKenzie on the small screen (when last we saw him on TV he was the bad boy from The OC) but NEVER FEAR … he’s back. The struggling network NBC is premiering a new series called Southland which features Ben in the role of Ben Sherman, mall cop police officer. McKenzie is paired up with character actor Michael Cudlitz who you may recognize as the “douchey” guy from Beverly Hills, 90210 … among other “douchey” roles he’s played on other shows. My guess is that he plays a “douchey” cop in this series but that is unimportant right now. Here are a few photos of Ben and Michael standing around and posing in their police uniforms on the SoCal set of Southland this week:

Lawd … I could really get into seeing Benjamin in a cop uniform from week to week but I fear that this show won’t be able to keep my interests beyond that to keep me coming back week after week. Nothing that NBC has put on the air in recent weeks and months has really grabbed my attention. Kath & Kim just had its season finale and I was so blah about the whole season. Mya Rudolph was a great mid-season addition but, overall, the show just doesn’t entertain me. Heroes, I’m sorry to say, hasn’t been interesting to me for months. I still have the last 5 eps saved on my DVR but just can’t be arsed to watch them … I don’t care any more. David and I watched Kings on Sunday night … didn’t do a thing for me. There is so much other interesting stuff to watch that I don’t even think about NBC anymore. I’m willing to give Southland a try but … I’m not holding my breath. What do y’all think … is the sight of Benjamin McKenzie in a cute little cop uniform enough to get you to tune in? Any OC old-skoolers in the hiz?

Mrs. Ryan Adams reveals her new album artwork
First Look: Mandy Moore, ‘Amanda Leigh’

Mandy Moore, who just recently got hitched to alt rocker Ryan Adams, has unveiled the new look of her official website and, in the process, unveiled the new cover artwork for her new album Amanda Leigh. Last month, Mandy announced that her new disc would be released on May 26 … and today we get to see what the album’s artwork will look like:

Very pretty, great cover. While I’m still having a bit of a hard time seeing Mandy as a married woman (and to Ryan Adams, no less), I am seeing her as a mature woman on this album cover. I really enjoyed her last album, Wild Hope, and I’m guessing that Amanda Leigh (her full name) will be a continuation of that album. Her music has grown so much from the sugar-pop she gave us back in the day … she’s deffo grown into a Little Woman ;) The album is available for presale on iTunes already … I know I can’t wait to hear it for myself. What do y’all think … do you like this coverphoto?

Step right up
‘Adventureland’ Premieres

Apparently, actress Kristen Stewart is interested in more than just lurvin’ up on hot vampires these days … as is evident from her new movie, Adventureland, she’s also into hangin’ out with interesting folks at local amusement parks. Here are a few photos from last night’s LA premiere at Mann’s Chinese 6 Theater here in Hollywood, CA of K. Stew, Ryan Reynolds, SNL‘s Bill Hader and the very pale pallored Kat Dennings on the red carpet:

I *just* saw the trailer for this film for the first time this week and really had zero interest in seeing it … until I found out that Kristen Stewart is in it. Honestly, it’s not so much that I think her acting skills will make the film but I’m really interested in seeing her in a comedy. As you may also know, I’m also interested in seeing Robert Pattinson‘s new film Little Ashes (mainly for the man-on-man nekkidness) to compare his performance in that film to his performance in Twilight. I’m not really sure why but I am really intrigued by seeing these young actors in other movies. It’s a good thing that Ryan Reynolds is in the film cuz now they can count on my $12 at the box office for sure. Does this film hold any fascination for any of y’all?

Meet the hero of Disney's 'The Princess and the Frog'
First Look: The Frog Prince

In January, we got our latest look at the protagonist heroine of Disney‘s new animated feature The Princess and the Frog which, as you all should know by now, is Disney‘s first Black princess. Today, we get our first look at her prince in the movie … he’s the guy that she saves (a la Belle in Beauty and the Beast) in the upcoming animated feature:

While some short-sighted people may take issue with Princess Tiana and her handsome Prince Naveen, I absolutely applaud Disney‘s decision to pair these two characters together in a romantic relationship. After the jump, check out what Prince Naveen looks like, er, when he’s not a frog …

Mickey Rourke Goes Behind The Iron Curtain To Prepare For ‘Iron Man 2’

Golden Globe winning actor Mickey Rourke, who has just signed on to play the role of Iron Man villain Whiplash in the upcoming sequel, made his way to Russia last week to tour the grounds of the Butyrka Prison in Moscow in order to prepare for his comic book role. Here are a few photos of Mickey inside Butyrka Prison getting a feel for what it must be like to be a prisoner in Russia:

Less than a month after he capped a remarkable comeback with an appearance at the Oscars, Mickey Rourke spent three hours in a high security Russian prison. The American actor, who was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award for his turn in The Wrestler, visited the Butyrka prison in Moscow to research his latest role. Rourke has signed up to play Russian villain Whiplash in the upcoming sequel to comic book movie Iron Man, in which he’ll star alongside Robert Downey, Jr. In a bid to understand his character’s experiences, Rourke was given a guided tour around Butyrka prison on Friday. He was accompanied by guards during his visit and spent some time in the cells to get a feel for how the inmates live. Rourke even ate a prison meal and played table tennis with a guard. At one point when he lay down on an inmate’s bed, Rourke quipped: “My sofa seems much stiffer.” Butyrka prison was notorious during Stalinist times for its brutal conditions and thousands are believed to have been killed by firing squad there. The Iron Man sequel will also star Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Scarlett Johansson. It will be directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Jon Favreau.

HMMM … I somehow doubt that the Russian guards allow prisoners to wear bright blue designer loafers and sunglasses but, overall, it looks like he got the gist of being a Russian inmate. I have to say, I’m very glad that the rumors about Mickey getting the Whiplash role in the sequel turned out to be true … I think we all know at this point that he is a superb actor and will deffo bring much to the character. I’m less excited about the news that Scarlett Johansson will be appearing in the movie as well. In my estimation, Emily Blunt would’ve been a much better pick … but, sadly, that rumor did not pan out. In any event, we know that production has officially begun on Iron Man 2 and now that we know that Mickey has begun his movie prep things should be coming along very quickly from here on out. Woot!

The TV Guide

No big news from yesterday … David and I spent most of the day working and I was waiting for a package from Amazon to arrive (which never did cuz it was sent to my old address … blah … now I have to truck my cookies out to Van Nuys to pick it up … but that is neither here nor there) but we did manage to get out of the house last night to have a nice, quiet dinner alone at Rambutan Thai in Silver Lake. Seriously, that place is my fave Thai restaurant ever … I can’t get enough. The duck curry is TO DIE FOR … okay, I have to stop talking about it cuz I’m craving it all over again ;)

That was pretty much our night … later this evening, I board my plane for Texas as I will be at SXSW for the rest of the week. I’m bummed to be leaving David behind but I am really, freakin’ excited to see Tori Amos on Thursday night. While I’m excited to see a bunch of other bands, Tori is the highlight for me. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll be going big at SXSW this time … it’s my first trip so I’m not sure what to expect. I want to continue working every day as usual so I’m prolly only gonna do one or two shows per night. It’d be really fun to to go to all the shows I’d like to but there’s no way I can do that and work every day. Mebbe I’ll find a happy medium. In any event, I ask for your patience for the rest of the week. I’m not sure how things are gonna go down once I get to Austin but I’m very excited to find out. Hopefully I’ll get to meet a few Pink readers along the way … should be fun!!

Álex Rodríguez Does ‘Details’ Magazine

Baseball star, sometimes Madonna paramour and admitted steroid-user Álex Rodríguez is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine. In his coverstory interview, A-Rod talks about his “favorite” Madonna song, poses for a (IMHO) narcissistic photospread and the overall state of his sports career … just hours before Sports Illustrated breaks the news that A-Rod tested positive for using a “banned substance” after he publicly went on the record to adamantly deny that he’s ever used banned substances in his career. Meh. Timing is everything. Here are a few photos from A-Rod‘s Details photoshoot and a portion of his coverstory interview:

The night before his life changes forever, Alex Rodriguez calls from Miami with an urgent request. A-Rod is worried about something he said during our interview last night. I’ve been hearing mysterious warnings all afternoon: Alex needs to talk. Alex wants to clarify something. Can’t say what. Alex will call you from his car. “Listen,” Rodriguez says. “I was thinking about one thing that I spoke about—it’s something that’s kind of trivial but will give me a hard time for no reason.” He pauses. “The song.” Aha. Last night, he let slip his favorite Madonna song. The curious relationship between A-Rod and the pop icon makes for delicious gossip, of course. Is Rodriguez terrified that Madonna will resent the tongue-wagging? Or, better still, has he picked the wrong song as his favorite, and fears that an offended Madge might march her stilettos over his back? No: Rodriguez believes that revealing the song would lead to its being played every time he stepped to the plate during an away game. “The last thing I want to do is go to every stadium and have them play that song,” he says. Fine—to be honest, it’s not even a great Madonna song (if it had been something juicy like “Justify My Love,” forget it). Looking back, his preoccupation seems surreal. Just the day before, Selena Roberts, a reporter from Sports Illustrated, had confronted Rodriguez at a Miami gym, asking for his reaction to evidence that he’d tested positive for illegal steroids in 2003. And now here he was, sweating a Madonna song. It’s like worrying about the in-flight movie as your plane is belly flopping on the Hudson River. Maybe Rodriguez is in denial. He’s just spent the afternoon happily posing for the cover shoot for this story, showing off his strapping physique and loosening up with shots of Patrón. His pals talk of continuing the party nearby, at the remodeled Fontainebleu hotel. When he calls later there’s no panic in his voice, no foreshadowing of the humiliation that he, at least, knows is coming. It really is as though his biggest concern in the world is that Madonna song. That fear is misdirected anyhow: Like an opposing team’s ballpark needs any inspiration to crank up a Madonna song when A-Rod comes to the plate. Velvet-vested organists have been practicing the entire Ciccone oeuvre for months. You know what happens next. Just over 12 hours after we hang up, Sports Illustrated publishes its story. Two days after that, a tearful Alex Rodriguez carefully confirms to ESPN that he used a “banned substance.” Excoriated in the media, the best baseball player of his generation is in an unimaginable fight to get his good name back. He’d probably give anything to return to worrying about that damn song. “Alex,” he says, extending a hand. “Nice to meet you.” Rodriguez strides toward my table in a sleek Italian restaurant in Miami’s South Beach wearing a cappuccino-colored sweater, a white oxford shirt, jeans, and pristine white sneakers. Style-wise, he’s a little Fred Rogers, a little Jerry Seinfeld. His eyes are turquoise green, and his brown hair is cut and gelled impeccably (the frosted tips were excised a while ago). On his left wrist is a red string Kabbalah bracelet. He orders an iced tea and explains why he was delayed on his way to dinner. One of his daughters was taken to the hospital with a staph infection. She’s going to be fine, he says, sounding relieved. Spring training is less than two weeks away, and Rodriguez has been working out down the road in Coral Gables, at the University of Miami, “about six mornings a week.” He’s pleased with the three new hires the Yankees spent $423 million on—first baseman Mark Teixera, pitchers C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett—and his face brightens as he talks about playing in the new $1.6 billion Yankee Stadium. He tells me he grabbed a souvenir seat from the old ballpark before it was shuttered. “What I really wanted I couldn’t get,” Rodriguez says. “There was a scale in the training room that had been there for years. Very cool, rustic, gold. Babe Ruth weighed himself on that scale. Joe DiMaggio. Mickey Mantle. I would have paid a funny number for that.” A waiter interrupts to ask for our dinner order, and Rodriguez waves him off—no food, thanks—as we discuss other off-season dramas. He mentions that he voted for Obama. “I’m cheering hard for him,” he says. “But we have to give him time and be patient.” (Three days later, the new president will call revelations of A-Rod’s steroid use “depressing news.”) Rodriguez, whose baseball salary alone is $28 million this season, admits he lost a chunk of change in the economic meltdown. “Whoever says they didn’t is lying,” he says, leaning forward in his chair. He says he feels bad for Michael Phelps, who’s recently been photographed lip-locked to a bong. “We live in a world right now where everyone’s keeping score,” Rodriguez says of the hunger for scandal. “And it doesn’t stop when the games end. . . . They’ve crossed over. And you have the Internet stuff, and all these phones. . . . It’s very intense.” Of course, A-Rod’s own version of the bong photo—a far more damaging one—is ready to drop. Earlier in the day, Rodriguez had his encounter with Roberts, the Sports Illustrated reporter, at the University of Miami gym. “You’ll have to talk to the union,” he told her when she confronted him about the positive drug test. “I’m not saying anything.” But he never mentions it to me. There are no urgent calls to or from his handlers, no interruptions at all. If he’s distracted, he isn’t showing it. He’s polite, unrushed, engaged. This is not to suggest he is loquacious; to say Alex Rodriguez is a guarded person is to say NORAD’s headquarters is a garage with a Master Lock. He examines each question for trapdoors before answering. You can’t fault him for protecting himself, but you can practically hear a P.R. team rattling off talking points inside his head. Responses are wiped clean of anything raw, off-message, or authentic.

The interview does go on from there and actually offers some bit of personality … he confesses that he sometimes will ride the subway to baseball games (“I have a hoodie on, but all it takes is one person and then you’re done. But it’s great. The fans get a kick out of it, I get a kick out of it. We talk about who’s pitching tonight, and what we need to do. It’s like being on sports radio”) and, of course, does talk a bit about Madonna … tho, he never quite offers anything that might be construed as scandalous (“We’re friends. She’s an amazing entertainer. And it’s been amazing how she’s been able to stay on top for three decades. I have a lot of respect for her”). He also throws in bits about his now ex-wife saying that he and Cynthia have a “wonderful relationship”. The whole thing ends with A-Rod‘s press conference admitting his use of banned substances and kinda throws a bucket of cold water over the entire interview. It’s an interesting read, I think. After the jump, check out one more photo of A-Rod from his Details magazine photoshoot — it’s not to be missed, he is actually kissing his #1 fan …

What Vicki B. don't know won't hurt her, right?
David Beckham Enjoys The Company Of Other Women

MMM HMMM … and now we know why David Beckham was so insistent on staying in Milan, Italy to play professional soccer … he seems to have a very avid fanbase there that he seems to enjoy very much. While wife Vicki B. was making her way home away from Europe this week (taking her frightening neck with her), Becks attended the Anema E. Core Cancer Research gala event in Milan where he was shown much attention from the various women in attendance … including one in particular, socialite Gabriella Dompe, who paid a pretty penny for one of Becks‘s jerseys that was sold at auction at the event. Here are a few pics of Becks and some of his admirers at last night’s gala dinner event:

Victoria Beckham may want to look away now as these photos show her husband David proved a serious hit with the ladies at a charity event last night. The football star was a special guest at the Anema E Core Cancer Research gala dinner in Milan. No sooner had Beckham sat down than he was inundated by a succession of Italian ladies keen to flirt with the international heart-throb. All the AC Milan player had to do was sit there as one female admirer after another approached his table for a quick chat. Good-natured Beckham took the adulation in his stride and appeared to be having a great time at the event, which was held at Le Officine Del Volo. Italian socialite Gabriella Dompe was particularly pleased to meet him. Having placed the highest bid for a Beckham shirt at the fundraiser she threw her arms around the tuxedo-clad star as he welcomed her onstage. Wife Victoria is currently at the couple’s home in Los Angeles looking after their three sons. The former Spice Girl was in Milan with Beckham last week. She then travelled to London on Thursday for a series of meetings with her management company in Battersea. As well as promoting her new clothing range at New York Fashion Week, she has been keen to spend time with her husband.

Yes … isn’t it a shame that VB had to go and leave Italy before this lavish event took place? Poor Becks, all by himself … left to the whims and desires of all of those lovely Italian women. Hee hee … while I’m *sure* that nothing untoward occurred last night, you can tell by that devilish smile on Becks‘s face in the last pic that he was having a grand ol’ time without his wife.

If U Seek Amy, check the courthouse
Amy Winehouse Pleads Not Guilty To Assault

What a difference as Bahamian vacation makes … just a few weeks after returning from her extended 2-month holiday on the island of St. Lucia (where it is rumored that she cleaned up her act significantly), Amy Winehouse showed up at court today lookin’ absolutely fabulous in her nice floral-print dress in order to plead not guilty to charges that she assaulted a fan last year. Now, irregardless of whether or not she did the assaulting or not, homegirl is a whole different person these days … a bathed one! That alone is cause for celebration. Here are a few pics of Amy being escorted by her father and champion Mitch Winehouse as she greeted the media circus that awaited her at court this AM:

Amy Winehouse made a typically bizarre appearance at court today as she denied assaulting a fan at a charity ball. The singer, looking tanned and healthy in a tight floral minidress, blew kisses to the huge media pack and grabbed her chest as she sashayed into the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court. She spoke loudly to confirm her date of birth and her name, which she gave as Amy Jade Civil – her married name. Winehouse, 25, is charged with punching dancer Sherene Flash at the ball in Berkeley Square last September. Ms Flash, 30, is said to have asked her for a photo and while the star initially agreed, she then allegedly lashed out. Winehouse is then said to have fled the star-studded event crying: “Life can’t go on.” Her solicitor Mark Haslam excused Winehouse’ s late appearance at the court, blaming problems during her journey and saying she had left her Barnet home at 8.15am. Her case was adjourned for trial on 23 July. Winehouse, who was granted unconditional bail, left the court, pulling down her dress and giving a wiggle as she went. Wearing high heels and platform soles, Winehouse then appeared to stumble as she was ushered into a side room to speak to her lawyer. She was greeted by a scrum of photographers and press when she walked out of the court in Horseferry Road, where police officers and her own security staff helped her into a waiting people carrier. Asked how she was feeling, she said: “I’m all right, thanks.”

Awww … can’t we just cut her a break and wipe the slate clean? It’s very obvs that she is trying to clean up her life, I say we give the poor mess a second chance. Because of this legal tussle (which may or may not get settled out of court before her trial begins in July), Amy has been denied a visa to come to the US to perform at Coachella — hasn’t she suffered enough? OK, prolly not … but I’d hate to see her fall off the wagon, as it were, and revert to her old reckless ways. I don’t recall Amy lookin’ this healthy in ages. Let’s hope she keeps it up. What do y’all think … is Amy Winehouse finally on the straight and narrow?
