'Hope' rides again
Milo Ventimiglia Joins Lance Armstrong On His Latest Charity Ride

Lance Armstrong teamed up with artist Shepard Fairey, various local civic leaders and friends like Milo Ventimiglia for a 2.2 mile charity bike ride in Hollywood, CA to raise awareness and funds for a global art exhibition called Stages that will help support the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Here are a couple photos of Milo before he saddled up to ride with Lance and co. Saturday evening and some info about the event itself:

[Saturday] evening, cyclist Lance Armstrong rallied friends, the bike-friendly, and local leaders as they took to the streets of Hollywood as part of his Livestrong: Hope Rides Again promotion. Armstrong was joined on two wheels by local civic leaders like Councilmembers Eric Garcetti and Tom LaBonge, and later by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and artist Shepard Fairey all to raise funds and launch a global art exhibition called “Stages”, which features the work of 21 artists and will help support the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Fairey’s iconic work can be see emblazoned on the buildings of Hollywood; although “Hope” is a key term for Armstrong’s exhibit, it’s also one that Fairey has used elsewhere–maybe you’ve seen it? Here he’s making do with “Defiance,” “Courage,” and “Action!”

Sounds like an amazing event, I love that Milo was able to take part in the event as I know how dedicated he is to the work of the Livestrong campaign. As disinclined to partake in anything of a physical nature, I absolutely commend those who are willing to devote their time and energy for amazing causes like this. The Lance Armstrong Foundation works so hard to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, I simply have to respect anyone who lends a helping hand to the cause. Kudos to all the participants in this weekend’s event. Oh, and mebbe Milo can wear a bit more spandex next time he gets on a bike? Thanks!

Miley Cyrus Signs Books, Shows Off Her Favorite Accessory

Miley Cyrus, who at the ripe old age of 16 has already published her autobiography (most likely written for her and slapped with her name on it) titled Miles to Go, made her way to The Grove here in LA to sign a few copies of that book and brought her #1 fan, 20-year old manfriend Justin Gaston, along for the ride. Here are a couple photos of Jiley as they made their way to the Barnes & Noble at The Grove for her book signing this weekend and a couple photos of JG standing by, watching with seething jealousy quiet pride at Miley‘s shining moment:

I have to say, I find it utterly ridiculous that a 16-year old girl thinks that she has thus far lived a life worthy of being chronicled in an “autobiography” but when Disney comes upon a young commodity that they can milk for millions … they are gonna milk away. As totally gross as the notion of this book sounds, I guess you can’t fault the girl for making as much money as she can, while she still can. Usually, I’m of the mind that getting kids to read any books is better than none at all but … this particular instance has me rethinking that belief. Blah … I think I’d rather kids read Lauren LC Conrad‘s debut novel over this drivel from Miley Cyrus … and doesn’t that really say something about the abysmal literature that is being marketed to children? Oh, JK Rowling … please come out of retirement to save our children! Please! But, I digress … I find it interesting that Justin Gaston seemed to have a hard time looking happy at Miley‘s book event. As a cheerleader, he really needs to learn to smile more. As much as I’m sure he really enjoys the perks that come along with his close affiliation with the Cyrus family, I bet there are times when it really sucks just as bad as well. Being that close to fame and fortune can’t be easy for the still semi-unknown model/singer. Couldn’t you just squeeze out a tear for poor ol’ Justin?

More Photos Of Britney Spears And The Sick Kids Of Miami

Yesterday we learned that Britney Spears took time out of her bizzy touring schedule to pay a surprise visit to some sick children at Miami Children’s Hospital so that she could spread some cheer AND drop off a check for $100,000 for the hospital’s Big Apple Circus Clown Care program. Today, we get to see a few more photos of Britney‘s visit to the kiddies over the weekend … check ‘em out:

Britney took a break from rehearsals to visit Miami Children’s Hospital for a surprise visit with 40 sick children. Pediatric radiologist Ricardo Restrepo and Lee Schrager, Director of Media for Southern Wine and Spirits America, thought Britney would be a fab visitor to the hospital since her Circus-themed tour ties in with the hospital’s Big Apple Circus Clown Care program, which features medically-trained clowns who visit the kids.

As Pink reader JadedKitten reminded me, Britney used to make these kinds of surprise visits back in the hey day of her touring career … so this sort of philanthropy is not new for her. It’s a great sight seeing Britney back in the habit of offering aid to others when not so long ago she was in need of aid herself. I would not be surprised if Britney has other visits to other children’s hospitals as her tour rolls on. These pics are great! I do hope we get to see more of these sorts of pit stops in the coming weeks and months :)

Is reportedly cast to play the Sydney-like character Violet
Ashlee Simpson Joins The Cast Of The ‘Melrose Place’ Redux

Last October we got word that The CW was planning to remake the wildly successful 90′s series Melrose Place since they successfully managed to remake Beverly Hills, 90210. At the time, there weren’t any concrete details about the new show (ie. would it follow the same format?), the casting (ie. who will play which character?) or even the name (ie. will it be called simply Melrose?). Since then there has been some news about the remake (including rumors that Mischa Barton may join the cast) with little concrete casting info making its way out … until now. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Ashlee Simpson has signed on to join the cast of the rejuvenated Melrose Place:

Multiple sources confirm that singer-songwriter-sometime actress Ashlee Simpson has become the latest tenant of The CW’s refurbished Melrose Place. The onetime 7th Heaven star will play small-town girl Violet, a character whose disarming naiveté masks the calculating, shrewd sex kitten within. In other words, the little tramp’s Sydney. Simpson joins a cast that so far includes Katie Cassidy (as ambitious publicist Ella), Michael Rady (as aspiring filmmaker Jonah), and, if there is a God, original Melrose icon Heather Locklear, who would be slipping back into Amanda Woodward’s office microminis. “Both sides are talking,” whispers my Melrose mole of Locklear. “It’s looking good.” Melrose 2.0, which is considered a lock to land a spot on The CW’s fall sked (most likely on Tuesdays after 90210), is being shepherded by Smallville’s Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin. Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) has been tapped to direct the pilot. Now for the big question: Did Simpson score the part that Mischa Barton had been circling? My sources tell me no. That means the ex-O.C. siren is in talks to … play straight-arrow med student Lauren or revoltingly sweet schoolteacher Riley.

To be honest, I hated 7th Heaven … and what little I saw of Ashlee on that show, I was not impressed. The vixen Sydney character sounds like a plumb role … I’m not sure that Ashlee is up to the task. Honestly, I think Mischa would make a much better vixen than Ashlee. All of this casting talk is very interesting … most of all, the notion that Heather Locklear might be reprising her role of Amanda Woodward. Doesn’t it seem that Amanda would be too old to contend with this new group of youngsters? Can she do it? I, for one, am interested to find out. I used to LOVE Melrose Place back in the day. Up until crazy Dr. Kimberly Shaw (played by the amazing Marcia Cross) blew the apartment building up, I was a very devoted fan. The show started to wane after that historic moment in pop culture. I can see how the new Melrose might be fun for a while … we’ll have to see if the redux is able to revive the overly dramatic magic that the original series created. What do y’all think … will this new series work?
