‘Two Lovers’ Premieres In NYC
Last night, a scrubby looking Joaquin Phoenix (who tried to clean up his image by wearing a suit) embarrassed himself on The Late Show with David Letterman in an attempt to carry on with his new whateverthehellhe’stryingtopull mockumentary art project thing as he promoted his new film Two Lovers. Phoenix was also on hand at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in NYC last night — along with co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, Broadway star Cheynne Jackson and others — for the film’s premiere. Monkey suit or no suit, he seriously looked like he stank:
I’m pretty sure that Joaquin’s ridiculously tiresome behavior is being paraded around town to try and inspire people to take notice and mebbe check out this film. For me, the opposite is true. I am so unimpressed by this bullshizz he’s trying to pull … his interview with David Letterman last night only made him look like a complete asshole. Sooo not impressed. I know that I will take a pass on seeing this film … despite all the pretty people who came out in support of it last night. And for the record, the woman in the third photo is NOT Hilary Swank … she’s just a creepy twin named Vinessa Shaw. But anyways, back on topic, I’m not sure if Joaquin’s antics are really resonating with anyone else but I’m not buying it. Andy Kaufman did it so much better … Joaquin, you are no Andy Kaufman.

I don’t know if JP’s behavior is truly a pub stunt or he is suffering from mental illness,etc…he can’t be hated for wanting to be a hip hop star but I don’t think that is what is really going on here. I think he has serious issues and needs help FAST.

FYI Cheyenne Jackson was on last night’s Life On Mars as some 70’s glam rocker. He looked pretty hot (at least in the beginning which was the only part I saw after Lost last night).

Saw him on Letterman last night. My roommates and I had no idea what was wrong with him. I was unsure if he was off his rocker, high or if he is just a dick. I had no idea he was promoting anything. Even if he was promoting something, I didn’t find it funny, simply rude and a waste of viewers and Letterman’s time and energy.

Well, say what you will about Joaquin, but Dave was a total ass in that segment. His questions were moronic (”How’s your beard?”), his comments were dead-ends (”I liked your movie”), and he otherwise just smugly sat there and subject his guest to cheap ridicule. It may be entertaining to watch Dave skewer inane celubtards from THE HILLS, but with a talented, painfully ill-at-ease actor he should conduct a more professional interview. Say what you will about stale comic Leno but he at least knows how to draw out painfully uncomfortable guests. I felt sorry for Phoenix. Dave gave him nothing and all he could do was sit there and squirm (and I imagine seethe) while the audience laughed at him.

It’s too bad he’s creating a bad publicity around this film, I went to see it a few weeks ago and it’s really good. The critics were excellent in Europe. I feel sorry for the director and the other actors.

I thought the same thing! He’s trying to do his best Andy Kaufman impression, but he comes across like he’s on drugs or just trying to be a huge JERK! It makes me sad, because 2 of my favorite movies are Gladiator and Walk the Line. I am bummed!

Joaquin made me LMAO in Letterman hahahahha. I’m not sure whether he lost it or not but “What do you have them on?” just cracked me up hahahahaha he is great! I love Joaquin. It is really weird to see him like this, he came off as such a shy guy before you wouldn’t expect sth like this. I hope he is just acting. He comes from such a screw up family that it wouldnt be a surprise if he indeed lost it. Sad.

hey trent, i understand you have a lot of interest in movies so you should definitely see it. it actually came out in france a few months ago and many many film critics gave it the #1 spot on their best of 2008 lists.

I’ve met Joaquin twice in business settings – he is a dick. Whether it comes as a result of excruciating shyness, mental problems, or a combination of both – he’s still rude, he’s still a dick, and I’ve seen him treat people just awful. I saw flashes of him being totally in on the joke in that Letterman interview which led me to believe it’s an act. And it’s competely retarded and annoying. Seriously – do you think that Casey would be following him around if this wasn’t a joke? If it were the serious mental meltdown that it looks like I think the family would be getting him help instead of filming it.

You know whats unprofessional? When a guest comes on a talk show, and sits there with a stick up his ass,\ acting like he doesnt want to engaged the host in conversation. What else was Dave suppose to do? When it became clear to him (and the audience) that Joaquin had no interest in giving a good interview, he made the best out of a bad situation. I think all of this drama is fake, but it does make or interesting TV.
