Even tho the Twilight sequel New Moon, or The Twilight Saga‘s New Moon as it has been renamed, has yet to begin filming it has been announced that Summit Entertainment has already set a release date for the third installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, to be released in movie theaters. Because The Twilight Saga‘s Eclipse has been scheduled for release a mere 7 months after the second installment hits theaters, a new director will have to be selected for that film. OY! So much movement on a film that is scheduled to get made after the next film which has yet to be made is made. Confused? Yeah, me too. BE WARNED … the following information about the Eclipse movie contains SPOILERS that should be avoided if you haven’t read the books … read on with caution:

A third film in “The Twilight Saga” is now set, reports Deadline Hollywood Daily. Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the series based on Stephenie Meyer’s teen vampire books, has apparently decided to release Eclipse on June 30, 2010. That’s little more than half a year after the series’ second movie, New Moon, is due to come out, on Nov. 20, 2009. No director for the third film is confirmed yet, and New Moon and Eclipse aren’t set to be filmed back-to-back. Deadline Hollywood Daily also quotes this Eclipse plot summary from Summit: “As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death” … Chris Weitz will not direct the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, a source close to the production tells EW.com exclusively. Because New Moon, which Weitz is helming, and Eclipse are due to be released so close together (on Nov. 20, 2009, and June 30, 2010, respectively), Weitz will be in post-production on New Moon at the same time that Eclipse will be shooting. That said, the source confirms a report that the movies will not be shot simultaneously or back-to-back; there will be a brief gap between the production of both films.
Clearly, the movie studio does not want to lose any momentum by spacing the films too far apart from one another. A Twilight film in the Fall followed by another the next Summer is sure to keep the rabid Twilighters hungry for more very happy … and loyal. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear sometime soon that the fourth installment, The Twilight Saga‘s Breaking Dawn, will get a release date in early 2011. It would appear that Summit Entertainment is really planning to keep the Twilight movies coming at close intervals. Personally, I’d prefer that they take time and care to put out the best movies possible … but in showbiz, sometimes quantity is substituted for quality. Are any of y’all Twilighters worried or excited by this news?

uhhhh damn… this is kind of.. ridiculous. they’re really milkin it for everything they got…
As much as I’m excited to see the rest of the story on the big screen, I would rather they take their time and ensure they make the best possible movie. The books were so great, I’d hate to see something lost because Summit tried to push the movies out faster just so they could cash in.
I don’t want to see a Breaking Dawn movie…they should stop after Eclipse and just do the last chapter of Breaking Dawn at the end of Eclipse.
a Breaking Dawn movie would just be weird. I can’t imagine them casting a weird/extremely intelligent baby for Renesmee. I don’t think that will translate on the screen. I’m also hoping they stop after Eclipse.
i agree with not making a breaking dawn movie… they should just find a way to add the wedding & Baby at the end
I agree with a lot of what has been posted thus far. If they had thought about the entire series of books as a whole project (a la LOTR) filmed them all at once (although the direction was a suck fest on twilight and would’ve ruined all the movies had it been all shot at the same time) then they wouldn’t be rushing through to film and release the others. I guess they really didn’t understand how big Twilight would be, but if they had, they would’ve taken more thought into the script of that, and of the remaining books. Guess they can’t let the vampires get too much older, if they filmed one per year, Robert would be like, 24 or whatever, it would be hard to pull off playing 17.
When they’re done with Breaking Dawn, I hope they film Midnight Sun…. Twilight from Edwards prespective would be a massive draw for so many. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun.html – I mean, it took TWELEVE chapters to get up to the meadow scene.. Edward just has so much more to offer to the story.
I guess we’ll just have to see what happens. I think they want to keep the momentum up because while Twilight was huge in and of itself the series as a whole has a very specific fan base who is only going to get older the longer they wait for the movies. Stephenie Meyer released all four books fairly quickly I think there was barely 3 years from the first to the last and by the time I heard about them the 3rd book was already on the shelves. So it kind of makes sense that they would do the movies like this. Also if they want to keep the same cast it’s sort of important since they don’t age. At least Twilighters won’t have to wait long. I like the books but I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan and from the beginning of the books to the last of the movies it’s like a 15 year arc. Totally worth it but there you go.
As for the movies themselves… I thought Twilight was okay. If they keep changing directors and direction they will all be different… we’re just going to have to wait and see how much different!
ha ha ha breaking dawn will probably be close to a porn…I say keep them rolling…I just want to look at edward cullens face.
@ day – hahahah it really would be like a porn eh? i forgot that half that book is there sex life LOL
As long as they’re half decent, then it’s fine by me. And as long as they don’t use that AWFUL background guitar rift again. I suppose they have to get them out quick so that the actor’s don’t age too much either, and so they can milk Robert Pattinson as Edward in Midnight Sun too.
SWEET! Eclipse comes out on my birthday. This is exciting.
Also, I have to agree with everyone else. I’m not in love with the books, nor did I think the movie Twilight was all that amazing. It’s obvious when you rush anything the result is not going to be as good as it could have. But I don’t think there’s any way around it- but really, is a year going to make all that much of a difference? They could at least stretch it out that long.
Hmm. I don’t know.
I’m just curious to see how the rest of the movies are going to play out.
well from what i have heard, they are going to be splitting breaking dawn up into 2 movies, and from what i have also heard, breaking dawn isn’t even signed into the contract yet…so i don’t know if that will be out so soon afterwards.
I hate that they are going so fast with the movies, especially since they didn’t even start making new moon yet, and it’s supposed to be out in 9 months, i’m not too happy, but at the same time i understand, because Rob Pattinson ages, Edward Cullen does not. Now i know that make-up does wonders..so i guess we will just have to wait and see.
Ugh. I just want them to be good. But nothing compares to the books <3
Stephanie Meyer has been quoted saying she is deeply worried about Breaking Dawn due to Renesme and her capabilities and what not. She says the technology isn’t even far advanced to make Nessie the way she wants her and how she is portrayed in the book. IDK
in new moon they’ll prob make bella halucinate edward instead of just hearing him so that rob p gets more screen time :) which would be fine by every one… agreed :) hehe
I hate how everyone is dissing Breaking Dawn. Im super excited to see it as a movie and i thought the book was really good. i mean yeah its prob gonna be hard to make breaking dawn a movie and they are gonna have to cut out some sexuality unless they rate it R. But either way im really excited to see all the books become movies. I cant wait!
I love, love love love Breaking Dawn. But seriously to make the movie good, seriously, how will they make it good and relevent? Because the book is like 750 pages, and how they supposed to make that good. They probably won’t or they could make in to a 2 part movie! But seriously who wants to wait that long. So the movie better be good or they are just ripping off the book. Again.
