‘The Hills’ Gang Bring The Drama To Hawaii

Filming for the next season is well underway
February 17th, 2009

The next season of The Hills is currently in production as the entire gang from the show were spied in Hawaii this week with MTV cameras in tow. Here is a group shot of the Hills folks sauntering nonchalantly on the beach in full view of any and everyone who cared to take notice yesterday afternoon:

While Lauren Conrad and Lo Boswoth may have vacated their Hollywood Hills pad, it seems they’ve traded up for the island paradise of Turtle Bay. Celebuzz spies in Oahu, Hawaii caught Lauren, Lo, Audrina Patridge and Stephanie Pratt vacationing this weekend at Turtle Bay resort, soaking up sun and cocktails—all on camera. While MTV was unreachable for comment, it seems Season 5 of the reality hit is upon us! “They were all together, sipping Chi-Chi’s [pina colada's with vodka],” the source says, “Lo picked up the tab for drinks and then all four girls laid in the sand.” Elsewhere at the resort, where Jason Segal and Mila Kunis filmed Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Brody Jenner and Frankie Delgado enjoyed bro time while production was manned from two large trucks of equipment. And what can we expect from the island get away, by the time it makes its edited way to our hot little hands? Boy talk! “Lauren and Lo were talking about two guys they met at [Los Angeles club] Apple,” said the spy. The loves and lives of the SoCal girls now contend with expat Whitney Port, and her NYC show The City.

Meh. I gotta admit … the obvious unreality of this reality TV show is really unappealing. I mean, I get that it was always fake to an extent but the stagedness of the series has gotten so out of hand … there isn’t even a single ounce of believability anymore. Mebbe it’s just me but I really preferred the show when MTV at least tried to make the drama seem real … mostly by being more clandestine about how the show gets filmed. They’re not even trying to hide the fact that the show is mostly pre-contrived drivel. I dunno … it’s just not as fun anymore. I also question whether the Hills folks themselves are having any fun any more. After the jump, check out a few photos of the mainstays trying to enjoy the sun and surf in Hawaii …

I kinda get the feeling that the gang are just going thru the motions at this point … that it’s all about the Benjamins. I think I’m still up for watching the show when it returns to the airwaves in a few weeks … I’m not sure why exactly, but I think I’m still there. How ’bout y’all … has The Hills lost its luster to any of you?

ugh, the city has blown this shit out of the water.

  2. Froggie2004 Says:

yeah, but its like a car crash, you want to see what happens…even if it sucks!
BTW Trent, I thought you said for sure you were NOT going to watch this next (last) season….hmmmm?

  3. Rachel Says:

I have to admit after watching ‘The City’ (even though I’m iffy on it), I do not miss Speidi at ALL and at this point I don’t even care about the Hills anymore. I like Lauren but I can’t stand another season of this crap. If I never see Spencer and Heidi again, it will be too soon!

  4. Pink! Says:

I agree Rachel! The City is not the most exciting show but the Hills is on its last leg, if it has legs anymore…SOOO contrived and the fake storylines aren’t even creative!

  5. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Froggie — I know I never said that, I did say I’d prolly not be recapping but I’ll still watch.

  6. nicole Says:

The City killed the The Hill IMO. i’ll take the socials over Spiedi anyday lol

  7. Stace Says:

I agree this show is so ridiculous now its hard to watch but also you cant look away…but I really hope this is the last season….its time for the hills to go….

  8. NikkiChicky Says:

Yeah, I agree with you Trent. The Hills is now world’s away from the “reality” level that Laguna Beach used to have. That’s saying a lot. Laguna Beach was contrived, but not in the sense that the people on the show seemed to be actors going through the motions. It was just a bunch of teenagers living their somewhat unrealistic lives and being taped–then MTV would go in after the fact and edit the heck out of the tapes. I much prefer to watch a heavily edited version of reality than to watch something that was never real to begin with.

  9. patches Says:

people that watch these fake reality shows are sooooo brain dead, its sad to see that this is what “entertainment” is to these people now… I can’t believe that people pay attention to them and actually follow them on the shows and have discussions about them lol…

  10. Chella Says:

I miss the old Hills I agree also with you Rachel..I do however love THE CITY!!!

  11. Mac Says:

The City is the new blog

  12. p Says:

I stopped watching a couple of seasons ago. Cant stand any of them anymore.

  13. Kristin Says:

Screw The Hills. I miss Laguna Beach! :D

  14. Phil Says:

idk i still like the hills better than the city, bc at least that started out as more realistic than the city, the city was fully casted characters and seems a lot more fake then the Hills. I will be watching when it returns!

  15. nicky Says:

Speaking of recapping, Trent, how come you don’t recap 24 anymore?? I love your recaps!

  16. Marlene Says:

I know, you stopped recapping Heroes as well. I know it kinda sucked last season, but I loved your recaps as well! =(

I haven’t watched the hills in forever. I’m so over it! there isn’t even any real drama anymore. total snooze!

  17. Michelle Says:

I highly doubt I’ll be watching this season… I barely watched Season 4. The utter fakeness of the show completely kills it for me. And of course they will continue to go through the motions. I would too if I was getting paid to lay on the beach and sip Mai Tai’s or whatever! MTV needs to bring back Road Rules!! Put some life back into The Real World and for god sakes play some music videos! Every MTV “reality” show seems the same anymore, they have lost their touch

  18. Xuehua Says:

I’m loving the city more than the hills now as well =)

  19. Lo Says:

I agree with Nicky! I love 24 and the recapping (although it’s also getting a little farfetched these days… I love the “corruption that has pervaded the entire government” or whatever, so only Jack/Bill/Chloe can save the day… yeah sure…)

  20. Kate Says:

The thing about the hills, is that i just feel the drama is so petty.. they are all 23 or a bit older, and they fight and cry over the stupidest things. The City is new and refreshing, the drama isnt as immature… I will still watch the hills, but i think the city has taken over.

  21. K Says:

Why is this Kelly chick posting ads all over your comment pages?

  22. MamaInStilettos Says:

Trent- You so so recap The Bad Girls Club and all their ridiculousness. omg. trash tv at it’s BEST…As far as the Hills? I know I’ll watch and I know that at the end of each episode I’ll be all “meh…I just wasted some time..” And I know I won’t be at the edge of my seat for the next new episode each week. But whatever, I’m a fan of L-to-the-C.

  23. College Candy » Candy Dish: Skinny Lohan Got Burrrrned Says:

[...] more unrealistic TV news, the cast of The Hills hits [...]

  24. Gina Says:

Trent, you don’t think The City is just as much if not more scripted than The Hills? And on an unrelated note, do you watch RW Brooklyn at all?

Not that I’m complaining about The City. I think part of the reason The City is so much better is cause it was most likely scripted from the very beginning. The Hills started off as the real deal and then just dissolved into a scripted mess.

  25. Chella Says:

K that was funny but I think that person is trying to say maybe we all need a DATE instead of watching these shows LOL…….GINA I am trying to watch RW Brooklyn I can’t wait to see when that girls man busts her I mean really she was trying to get all over Scot package hahaha I can’t wait!!!

  26. Penny Gadget Says:

I haven’t watched the Hills since last season and I only saw a couple of snippets of the City so I don’t know how qualified I am to be judging, but in my opinion both shows are total crap. I mean, obviously anyone watching has to take it with a grain of salt but all I can think about is my little sister watching these shows and thinking this is what life is really like. The attitudes have definitely leaked into the mainstream; just go to any mall and keep your ears and eyes open and you’ll know what I mean. It’s always really bugged me that the Hills never really gives a sense of time (unless they’re at a Holiday themed party) and never really touches on important issues that the age group watching it should be informed about. Whatever my argument isn’t with the Hills but with the culture in general so I need to stop talking. Watch the news instead ya’ll.

  27. shellah Says:

    is it at waimea beach?
    when was it takin?

  28. sarahjessicamaybe Says:

Just out of curiosity why doesn’t LC or any of the HILLS cast members have any BLACK friends… I must say I am addicted… however this show is supposed to be a representation of young Hollywood … you mean there is no people of color in Hollywood or in the city of LOS ANGELES W-T-F … I cannot relate to any of the characters… MTV daddy’s girls sucks, it’s a show about shoes… please find some sophisticated people of color, and they do exist and put them on TV damn it! And you can start with me… ;-)
