What sort of jail time would he be looking at for this? Is there even a set amount of time for assault? I’m assuming that this is his first offense since we haven’t heard anything to the contrary. I hope he gets more than a slap on the wrist and a fine. I don’t think that’s enough to learn that under no circumstances is it okay to hit someone. I wish she had been able to hit him back though… NOT that violence is the answer but in this case it would have at least been deserved. You know like J. Lo in Enough…. I hope they don’t go the traditional celeb route with this. He needs to take criminal responsibility AND I think needs to probably talk to someone about his temper… he’s young and could bounce back from this, but another incident and it’s over.

sorry peeps. dudes dont fly into a homicidal rage from merely discovering they might need to obtain a simple rx, or from car keys gettin tossed about. hmmm… isnt it when abusers are faced with a real mirror that they lose it and lash out at others? like a rat in a cage? she may have had the goods on him and called him out for real …. of course she didnt ask for the abuse, but that IS when one gets it. when they speak up. hopefully he’ll be seein the inside of a 6×9 real soon.

This is just so tragic — it really hits home for me, and I hope that more bloggers and journalists will take your lead in reporting on this in a respectful way, with some semblance of journalistic integrity.

I heard some disgusting rumors being spread this morning on the stupid local zoo-crew radio show, which was appaling in and of itself. And to make matters worse, they aired a call from some idiot (a woman, no less) who said that, “Rihanna just thinks she’s so perfect, I can’t stand her, she deserved to get beat.” <> How can people be so ignorant and disrespectful?

One last request, though — could you please remove Lyn’s comment? I can’t take any more of this.

And yes I realize that I may sound like I’m also sticking up for Chris Brown and I definitely am not. I do not condone his actions in any way. I do feel horribly bad for RIhanna and hope she heals from all of this, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that they were fighting with each other. I’ve read online and heard that she just sat there while he flipped out, and that doesn’t seem to be true. This whole thing is a prime example of what fighting and provokation leads to.

@Lyn – whether or not she had the guts to fight for herself is irrelevant. Even if she had fought back (and may have for all we know) she was well within her rights to go to the police. No matter what you do to piss someone off no one deserves to get hit or strangled or whatever the case may be here. As everything sounds now was she participating in the fight? If the whole keys thing is true than certainly, but that’s still no reason for him to touch her like that. This whole thing is incredibly sad. Two young and talented people made some horrible decisions and their lives are now changed forever. My only hope is that they both can somehow move on from this incident, take responsibility and get their lives back in order.

I haven’t heard any of the rumors, but if they are to the effect that Rhianna somehow asked for this treatment from Chris…then that is disgusting and shameful. No woman (or man) should have to be a victim of abuse. I’m glad to hear that Rhianna is talking to the police. Oftentimes, the victim in situations such as these is too embarassed and humiliated to blow the whilstle on the abuser.

I can’t imagine going through this in the public eye. I hope that Rihanna’s rep sheds a little more light on the issue soon, because the rumor mill does seem to be churning out some pretty ugly depictions of both parties. I really feel bad for her, she is only 20! I can’t imagine dealing with that issue at age 20 in the public eye. She is probably just in shock, embarassed, distraught. The positive news is that if (IF!) this was a cycle of abuse, it has been publicly outed and she will have to confront face it and she will have the support of people to get through it :)

I didnt even know what they were till my sisters were talking about it and their comments and jokes actually bothered me so much I got up to leave the room. i agree whole-heartedly with trent: this situation is both disgusting and horrific enough without the need to spread false rumors concerning Rihanna. the poor girl is a VICTIM people!! she has been through enough, and to have to deal with something this horrible publicly is intense enough without the drama & bullshit folks find it necessary to make up for the media exposure. i pray the media and papz take it easy on her, let the girl rest privately. if you want to make a scene and throw stone, go find mr. chris brown.. throw a rock at his head if you need drama… just let well enough alone.

Why are they only charging him with threatening when they apparently have proof that he assaulted her? Originally when I heard about it, the charge was battery…why did it change?
