More information from “sources” concerning the alleged assault against Rihanna by Chris Brown has made its way to the Internets … and while I am not one to redistribute unsubstantiated information, especially in cases as serious as this one may be, some of the new info seems relevant to me to pass along. E! News is reporting that Rihanna has been actively cooperating with police as they continue to gather evidence against Chris Brown for his alleged physical attack on her person and cite sources close to the case that claim that she revealed to police that Brown “threatened to kill her”. I know quite a few people at E! News and I have to say that I trust their reporting and trust that they would not be reporting this sort of information if they weren’t confident in their sources. Again, none of the information that is making the rounds — not expressly released from the authorities — should be treated as fact and should be taken with a grain of salt, including the following report:

Earlier today, the Los Angeles district attorney asked police detectives to dig up more evidence for their case against Chris Brown. The police are getting cooperation from Rihanna, and what she has told them so far is chilling. A source close to the investigation tells E! News exclusively that Rihanna has alleged to police that Brown choked her while threatening to kill her and, subsequently, she lost consciousness. They began squabbling after leaving Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party late Saturday. Shortly after midnight, things blew up. Brown pulled his silver Lamborghini to the side of a street in L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood. That’s when, per the source, Rihanna grabbed the car keys and tossed them out the window, sending Brown into a rage. He tried in vain to find the keys, then came back to the car, put his hands around her neck and, according to the insider, said, “I’m going to kill you!” According to the source, the 20-year-old “Disturbia” singer told police that she lost consciousness, and when she awoke, Brown had fled. According to the source, her right eye was blackened and badly swollen and she had hand prints on her arms. The responding officers were so concerned about her, they drove Rihanna to the hospital in their squad car instead of waiting for an ambulance. Officers took two sets of photographs of the banged-up singer, one at the scene and the second after she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment. Those photos were presumably among the evidence presented to the district attorney. After being treated for her injuries, police escorted her down a rear elevator and into a waiting Mercedes, the source says. Brown, 19, was subsequently booked on suspicion of making criminal threats. He was released after posting $50,000 bail. His lawyer, Mark Geragos, has not responded to repeated requests for comment on the allegations. Brown’s publicist also has not commented. A spokeswoman for Rihanna declined to comment specifically on details of the fight and the arrest and stuck to her earlier statement from Sunday: “Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support.”
And so, another bunch of information that paints an even uglier picture than the last ugly picture we got before has been unleashed upon the world wide web. While I absolutely understand why both parties are being completely silent on the matter due to legal reasons, the silence is deafening … with no official word coming from either camp, the reports coming out from “sources close to the investigation” are left to do all of the talking. The only thing we know for sure is that some altercation took place between Rihanna and Chris Brown, that he has been arrested and released on bail and that they both plan to stay out of sight for the foreseeable future. I’m not sure when anything in an official capacity will be announced by the authorities or by either party but until then, I expect these sorts of reports to continue to come out. And, blah, I have to express my disgust for those people who are spreading the MOST unsavory rumors about this incident. They are so gross, in my opinion, that I will not even mention them here. Making ugly accusations about a seemingly heinous incident like this only makes the whole matter even sadder … but I guess people are going to say what they are going to say. I, for one, refuse to sink that low. This story is already so sad, why do people have to make it worse?

Why are they only charging him with threatening when they apparently have proof that he assaulted her? Originally when I heard about it, the charge was battery…why did it change?
Because threatening has a harsher punishment and DA can always add more and harsher charges.
@Kelly Cutrone. Way to stay on topic.
i agree whole-heartedly with trent: this situation is both disgusting and horrific enough without the need to spread false rumors concerning Rihanna. the poor girl is a VICTIM people!! she has been through enough, and to have to deal with something this horrible publicly is intense enough without the drama & bullshit folks find it necessary to make up for the media exposure. i pray the media and papz take it easy on her, let the girl rest privately. if you want to make a scene and throw stone, go find mr. chris brown.. throw a rock at his head if you need drama… just let well enough alone.
Thanks Trent for refusing to spread some of those low claims. I didnt even know what they were till my sisters were talking about it and their comments and jokes actually bothered me so much I got up to leave the room. I dont care what Rhinna did or supposedly did because no person deserves that treatment within their relationship. I hope Rhianna really is doing ok.
I can’t imagine going through this in the public eye. I hope that Rihanna’s rep sheds a little more light on the issue soon, because the rumor mill does seem to be churning out some pretty ugly depictions of both parties. I really feel bad for her, she is only 20! I can’t imagine dealing with that issue at age 20 in the public eye. She is probably just in shock, embarassed, distraught. The positive news is that if (IF!) this was a cycle of abuse, it has been publicly outed and she will have to confront face it and she will have the support of people to get through it :)
I really feel that the best thing the media can do now is stop reporting what anon. sources say and wait for info to be released. This is a I am sure all this media attention is not helping her at all. Let the girl get better in peace. and the law enforcement deal with Chris.
What I want to know is… where were the photogs… they are ALWAYS following and never miss a thing, but they miss this?
My heart breaks for her! I am GLAD no photos have been snuck of her, she’s dealing with enough…that IMHO would cross the lines of taste.
People are just repeating what they heard from websites and television. It’s not their fault that the rumors are “unsavory”. The whole thing is unsavory.
Panti Christ – I COMPLETELY agree with you, I’m glad as well, she deserves her privacy in this situation, which I agree with in every sitaution where someone is going through something deeply personal… I meant that I’m just surprised that nothing has leaked…
I haven’t heard any of the rumors, but if they are to the effect that Rhianna somehow asked for this treatment from Chris…then that is disgusting and shameful. No woman (or man) should have to be a victim of abuse. I’m glad to hear that Rhianna is talking to the police. Oftentimes, the victim in situations such as these is too embarassed and humiliated to blow the whilstle on the abuser.
Now this story sounds legit. I can see her throwing the keys out and him being mad. It is still not right at all…but makes more sense. Poor girl…it is just a sad sad story.
I’m still in denial and wish that they both would make some sort of statement so that the rumors can be squashed.
@ Lyn. Your comment is just evil. Plain and simple.
Are you harboring issues of your own and lashing out at Rihanna because she is actually doing something about her situation? Either way; how petty of you.
Lyn – you suck because you are racist!
Wait, what? Lyn, you can’t be serious.
@Lyn – whether or not she had the guts to fight for herself is irrelevant. Even if she had fought back (and may have for all we know) she was well within her rights to go to the police. No matter what you do to piss someone off no one deserves to get hit or strangled or whatever the case may be here. As everything sounds now was she participating in the fight? If the whole keys thing is true than certainly, but that’s still no reason for him to touch her like that. This whole thing is incredibly sad. Two young and talented people made some horrible decisions and their lives are now changed forever. My only hope is that they both can somehow move on from this incident, take responsibility and get their lives back in order.
And yes I realize that I may sound like I’m also sticking up for Chris Brown and I definitely am not. I do not condone his actions in any way. I do feel horribly bad for RIhanna and hope she heals from all of this, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that they were fighting with each other. I’ve read online and heard that she just sat there while he flipped out, and that doesn’t seem to be true. This whole thing is a prime example of what fighting and provokation leads to.
[...] However, new reports have surfaced an E! Online stating that Rihanna has talked to the police and though the details in the report have yet to be confirmed by either party. This is the statement E! has issued, taken from PinkIsTheNewBlog: [...]
