Miley Cyrus FINALLY Apologizes For Her Offensive Photo
Finally!! Miley Cyrus has posted a new blogpost on her official fan club website MileyWorld.com wherein she finally apologizes for the harm caused by that controversial photo that came out last week. Here is the full text of Miley’s apology, all spelling and grammatical errors are her own:

Something I Want You To Know
Posted on Feb 08, 2009
I want to thank all of my fans for their support not only this week, but always! I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometime my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is a part of GODs ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman he aspires me to be. Peace and love, Miles.
Now this is an apology that I can live with. Not only does she offer remorse for her wrongdoing but she claims to have learned a valuable lesson from this incident. As long as she learns that what she did was hurtful to others, she can actually grow and mature from this experience. This apology does not make me a Miley Cyrus fan per se but I can absolutely respect that she finally owned up to her actions and publicly expressed her apologies for having offended people (which might, in turn, inform her young fans that her offensive actions should NOT be emulated). On this matter, I think we’re square. But, I gotta say, I’m not sure what God’s plan has to do with any of this … I’m just glad that she seems to have learned her lesson.

Maybe it was GODs plan so she can get more press?
I just really really hope we see and hear less of her from now on.
February 9th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
I dont think she should have to be apologizing to make eveyone else happy. Get over it. There was an asian, or whatever ethnicity the man was, pictured in the photo with her that everyone calls so “controversial” Shes just a teen having a laugh. Get over it and leave the girl alone.
February 9th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Ahh, dear Miley.
Her Gos allusions are honestly beginning to bug the hell out of me. She’s so trying very hard to look like a perfect christian girl … it’s not even funny anymore. I understand she’s a 15/16 year old, and you know what they say, Girls just wanna have fun.
But when the girl is a millionnaire and has every single action she makes projected on everyone’s pc screen… she can’T have fun like everyone else. That’s the price to pay for fame hun!
February 9th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
@ Pants_Dance – She has every right to apologize. What she did was a racist expression. She knew what she was doing; she’s 16 and is well aware of her actions.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
I agree with Trent what the hell does “God” have to do with any of this?
February 9th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
This is the first genuine apology I have heard in a while. It actually sounds like it was written by Miley herself and not by a publicist. Good for her. I really do hope that she has learned her lesson. I’m not sure what the incident had to do with GOD either, but to each his/her own.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
GOD IS DEAD
February 9th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
This girl is trouble. It’s not necessarily her fault, but it sure is written all over her face and in her behavior. It rises to the surface in her interviews and even in her performance last night with Taylor Swift. You can just *see* it in her… she loves the attention yet she has no clue how to handle it.
And her obvious tendency to wait around until God shows her what kind of woman to be is just a recipe for further trouble. I hope for her sake that her parents stabilize her pronto otherwise I shudder to think what might lie ahead for Miley.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
I really don’t understand the whole “she’s just a teen” argument some people keep trying to stress over the fact that the photograph was overtly racist. Racism is blatant, and excusing it because she’s too young and too stupid to know any better doesn’t make it OKAY. This leniency is what’s wrong with America. Too many parents are excusing their stupid ass kids for the stupid ass things they do, thus unfairly subjecting anyone who has half a brain to their unexplainable stupidity.
And having an Asian in the photo doesn’t justify it all. There are plenty of people who will accept other’s making fun of their ethnicity, and not do a thing. That doesn’t make it okay. And if he’s okay with people being ridiculous, why is that suddenly an argument for everyone else to be okay with that? There’s more to this picture than simple, teenage stupidity. And she’s not just making a funny face. Goodness, if I have to hear that one more time, when you freaking slant your eyes like that, you are clearly making one of an ethnic group, you jackass.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Yeahhhhhhhhhhh okay I’m really sick of the GOD references. God had nothing to do with it.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
obviously someone made her do it, I don’t think she was being racist but just stupid, teens act stupid sometimes but she knows she is in the public eye and pictures got her in doo doo before, people look up to her – even Asian people, and some of them probably got offended by seeing their idol doing that. So my open letter to Miley- STOP TAKING STUPID PICTURES THAT YOU WOULDN”T WANT THE PUBLIC TO SEE BECAUSE THEY WILL LIKELY SEE THEM AND YOU WILL LIKELY GET SH8T FOR THEM!!!!!
February 9th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
@ Pants_dance, just because there was an asian in the photo with her, didn’t stop so many other people being offended. So what? One of her friends didn’t mind her mocking him? What about all her asian fans?
She was absolutely right to apologise. I can’t believe it took her so long. I think, in her situation, she should have just apologised immediately even if she didn’t think she’d done anything wrong. Maybe it’s good that she didn’t because now she’s had a chance to see how many people were upset by it and realise she did something wrong.
If everybody just said “oh leave her alone, she’s young” and never said anything about it.. would she ever learn that acting like that wasn’t ok?
February 9th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
I really don’t see what the big deal is. She’s a teen having some fun. To say she’s racist because of a silly photo, because really, that’s all that it was, is inane. I get it, people want to “teach her a lesson” but every young person has their silly, maybe a little insensitive moments. As someone who is currently a senior in high school, I hear and see much worse every single day, so everyone just needs to get over it.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
That’s all she had to do to begin with, instead of making dumb excuses. I’m glad she apologized. Now I can go on pretending she doesn’t exist.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Its not something to just “get over”. What she did offended poeple and we can’t just look the other way. Kids may be doing things like this everyday at school but maybe its because they see there isn’t anything wrong with it, since hey Miley does it 2.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I’m sure the only lesson she learned was “don’t do that in front of a camera again”. Although considering how often these private pictures come out, who knows how long even THAT will stick.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
She didn’t apolgize for her actions. She’s saying sorry YOU feel offended. Not genuine.
And when does making ’slanty eyes’ mean being silly? I’m shocked people think it’s ok to make this face. You do not make that face unless you have the asian stereotype in mind, period.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
I’d have a lot more respect for had she not apologized. Regardless if you thought the initial pic was right or wrong, she came out and said it was no big deal. But then people bitched and moaned until she caved. No matter what you do, you’re going to offend someone, and I’m tired of all this PC crap. Who really gives a bleep about Miley Cyrus, anyway? Christ, I’ll be glad when this crap is over.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
There, I’m glad everyone can fully function again now that Miley has apologized for something that had nothing to do with you! You people are pathetic for being offended by something so petty. Grow up! She’s only 16. Losers.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
OMG, why can’t people just have enough respect for others to stop telling them to “just get over it” when they are offended by something?
If you are not offended by Miley’s recent actions, then fine, whatever. I’m an Asian-American and I personally didn’t see her actions as willfully hateful, just ignorant and poorly thought-out. I suspect that she was just trying (in a very misguided and stupid way) to be funny–not that I find the photo itself humorous.
But seriously, just because I personally don’t have a big problem with it doesn’t mean that other people don’t have a right to their own opinions. Telling somebody to “get over it” or whatever is just another way of saying, “You have no right to think or feel something that is contrary to my own opinions.” In my book, that is really uncool.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
LOL Best Week Ever had a pic of her with a bunch of asian people at a grammy swag room- she was def not doing the eye thing there :-P
February 9th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
wow, y’all are trippen.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
@GLou — you mean this photo: http://pinkisthenewblog.com/home/2009/02/miley-cyrus-tries-to-do-some-damage-control/
February 9th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
yes her actions were hurtful, and rightfully she should apologize!
February 9th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
@Lana – It’s the “it doesn’t have to do with me attitude” that leads to issues like racism. Not that I am in any way likening Miley’s actions to mass murder, but it’s ignoring issues because they don’t affect your tiny little bubble of a life that allows for world problems like genocide. If I ever spot you getting beaten or robbed, I sure as hell won’t do anything about it, because what does it have to do with me?
To everyone who’s not offended – fine, I can’t tell you when you’re offended. But don’t tell me it has nothing to do with me, and don’t use that as an excuse for turning a blind eye. The only way discrimination will ever be eliminated is if we get rid of the “it’s not about me” attitude. That’s selfish, ignorant and disrespectful.
I’m glad she’s apologized. I do hope she’s learned that just because you don’t mean to offensive doesn’t make something not offensive. Honestly, I had a problem with all the “adults” who didn’t have a problem with her actions more than with Miley herself.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
I think a lot of the time that people forget Miley is only 16. Yes she is in the public eye and may be a role model for younger girls, but she is still at the age where she has her own rolemodels and is still looking for guidance. She is at the age where making mistakes is an everyday thing. This picture while it may have been offensive wasn’t anything more then a 16 year old girl with her friends. It wasn’t intended for anyone to see except her friends, frankly I think people should be more ashamed of the person who leaked the photo and the fact that this girl can’t be silly with he friends in private. Before you judge the girl think back to when you were 16, I can garuntee you had moments where what you said/did was more offensive then this photo. Glass houses people, glass houses.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Sorry I keep commenting on this but…
At all the “She’s only 16…” comments. I completely agree. People make mistakes. But if you just let her get away with it, she will do it again.
When a 3-year-old throws their food on the floor, you say, “They are only 3!” But you tell them it’s wrong and to apologize and take responsibility and not to do it again. It’s not a big deal, but it will become a big deal if no one teaches them to apologize and not to repeat their actions. I don’ t understand why this is a difficult concept to grasp. I’m not a parent, but I think this is the basic thrust of parenting, no?
February 9th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
She should really stop dragging “GOD” into this. The photo was only HER doing. God has nothing to do with it. She needs to step out of the spotlight for a bit, and maybe grow up.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Good grief. Her point was God always has a plan for growing us and teaching us lessons even in the midst of our mistakes.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
PLEASE NOTE that Miley wrote that she’s sorry…
“if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone”
If it offended anyone? IF???
She not sure???
Then how can she truly be sorry?
She’s not.
February 9th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
I still find it quite backwards that while Miley and her non asian friends are making the slant eye faces…NO ONE is saying anything about the Asian person making his eyes as round as possible. So it’s okay to make fun of groups that aren’t in a minority then?
February 9th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
She didn’t apologize and people complained. Now people are complaining about her apology. Oh no she referenced God, oh no she said if. People just want to hate her. Despite the fact I don’t like her or the picture I still don’t think she had to apologize to everyone. it was a private moment blown out of proportion.
February 9th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
She is so irrelevent. Why does anyone care and how can she be respected for offerring up an apology she was obviously forced to give? She’s just a typical ignorant spoiled rich child.
February 9th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
@Lorena — you are a complete and utter idiot if you think the Asian kid was ‘making his eyes as round as possible’ in order to ‘make fun of’ the whites in the pic. if your ignorance that not all Asian people have tightly slanted eyes weren’t so sad i might pity you. instead i’ll just pray that you never reproduce.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Eh, whatever I’m over this whole photo thing. She did it, what else is there. Next week she’s probably going to do something else that will no doubt offend an entirely different group of people and then we will all be sitting around talking about it. I still contend that the whole thing was blown way out of proportion. She’s human and as humans we tend to do stupid and sometimes disrespectful things. She’s put on blast about it because she’s a celebrity and a “role model” but really aren’t we as adults all role models to someone we know, whether we realize it or not? I think people really need to get a grip and chill about stuff like this. And the pic at the Grammys with all those Asian people was overkill in my opinion. It’s like she rounded up every Asian person she could find and made them pose with her… come on.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
It is kind of obvious that that asian male is the photo is widening his eyes while everyone else is slanting theirs. Oviously this photo was all in good fun, a photo between friends and everyone is blowing it up. It’s much ado about nothing really.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
oh brother.
ASAINS HAVE SLANTED EYES, miley pretended to have squiny eyes
WHITE PEOPLE HAVE WIDE EYES, the asian kid pretended to have wide eyes
I DONT FUCKED GET THE OFFENCE.
why aren’t the white community bitching?
because it’s another way for people to whine about being offended.
trent, get off your damn high horse, who the hell are you to judge what she should and shouldn’t do, i’m sure you were fucking perfect when you were a teenager too.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
What a half-hearted apology. Of course she should apologize (being a teenager does not excuse her actions, having ONE Asian there doesn’t legitimize anything, etc) but this post sounds really insincere to me. What really pisses me off is that this is tantamount to putting on a BLACKFACE, but because it’s making fun of Asians, people are still going around saying it’s not a big deal. I’m sick of white people thinking that as long as they don’t (overtly) make fun of black people–or so long as they ’support Obama’–they are not racist. Wake up, the world is full of East Asians and South Asians and Latinos et al and when you make fun of us based on stereotype YOU ARE BEING A RACIST.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
you’ve been acting like perez lately, IMHO
February 9th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
And you idiots saying that bullshit about the Asian ‘widening his eyes’ I’m guessing hasn’t seen more than two Asians in real life. Though I guess that’s good, we should keep you ignorant fucks away for fear your allmighty whiteness bleach our yellow skin.
February 9th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
@ Lorena
I’m asian and my eyes aren’t slanty. Am I trying to make fun of caucasians?
While this photo was controversial, it was only so because she is a public figure. There are other teens out there doing the same thing. I think that BECAUSE she is a public figure that she definitely has to be more aware of her actions even if she is hanging out with friends and taking pictures.
February 9th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
@ jayne
who is being racist now? because Miley Cyrus was making slanty eyes, all white people are racist against asians and all white people do the same thing in their spare time? How can you bitch about racism and be racist at the same time?
Why do you get to generalise the actions of white people because of their skin colour (’m sick of white people thinking that as long as they don’t (overtly) make fun of black people–or so long as they ’support Obama’–they are not racist.) while chastising people for doing the same thing. Stop being such a hypocrite.
February 9th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
What??? Since when is “I’m sorry if you were offended” a sincere apology?
February 9th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
@Truepenny- it’s not so much that I am turning a blind eye, it is that I have better things to do then concern myself with what Miley Cyrus is doing with her life and I find it amazing that so many people feel the need to make a comment about what is wrong and right about what Miley does in her life. She did not ask to be a role model and I think it is unfair that she is attacked because she is a celebrity. People take even the smallest things way too seriously, and I think you are one of those people. Kay thanks have a great day.
February 9th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
@ Lana, I’m pretty sure when you sign up to be a Disney star you know you’re going to end up being a role model… like she’d have had to literally sign something along those lines. So she *did* sign up to be a role model.. and if you don’t want to waste your time talking about Miley Cyrus, why are you?
February 9th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I actually am a Miley fan, but I am not concerned with what she is doing. Obviously many other people are concerned and I feel as a fan it is my duty to defend her and point out how people who have no interest in her feel the need to attack her. Go eat a donut now :]]
February 9th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
OMG get over it!!!
February 9th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
i’m really disgusted by her attitude towards this issue. her apology sounds so fake and reluctant. its like getting a four year old to say sorry when they truly aren’t.
i don’t get it with people taking this ‘its not a big deal, she’s only sixteen’ attitude. in asia, if you do something offensive, it will come right back and sock you in the face. maybe its okay in america to go around calling dark-skin people black or to make fun of Chinese/Korean/Japanese having small eyes but in Asia, people respect each other. if they did offend someone, it is a heartfelt, sincere apology.
February 9th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
How can people hate someone they don’t know? What the hell has this kid done to anyone here personally? I don’t understand it. I’m not a Miley fan by any stretch, but my 9yo daughter idolises her…I “hear” the show everyday (but don’t watch it) and hear her CD’s constantly. Because I’m not a fan should I rubbish her to my daughter?
Seriously, all this hate is as ignorant as the racism you claim to abhor. Miley did the wrong thing and has been blasted for it. She’s apologised. Whether it’s heartfelt or not is beside the point…she said she was sorry and has learned a lesson, so isn’t forgiveness in order? Be grown ups and leave the kid alone now.
Also @ niechse, some of us don’t agree. Get a brain and have some forethought. Knocking religion isn’t very smart.
February 10th, 2009 at 1:16 am
I see this as a pretty simple situation. If you agree to be a star, get the millions, you have to know your in the spotlight.
What she did wasn’t the same as a hate crime, or being openly racist, its racial profiling. It may not be stab-you-in-the-gut offensive, but it was still rude. Imagine if she came out doing Blackface.
And hey, if the Asian kid really is “making his eyes wide like white people”, then he’s doing it to! Two wrongs don’t make it right
February 10th, 2009 at 1:24 am
God’s plan????????????!!!!!!!!!!
February 10th, 2009 at 2:53 am
oh my god! americans stars must always apologize about everything ,what they do or say but they aren’t true it’s just for the fans and the medias everybody know , this apaologize seem fake once and again
February 10th, 2009 at 3:14 am
wow.yes,yes..how lovely…NOT..
February 10th, 2009 at 4:05 am
wow I don’t really think her photos were offensive… people in America should be more relaxed
February 10th, 2009 at 7:59 am
Hey Trent,
Hope all is well in the new house! As for Miley, I think she is talentless. But alas perhaps memories of her father’s only hit cloud my mind. :)
February 10th, 2009 at 9:08 am
When Eddie Murphy plays an asian character in ‘Norbit’ its all laughs. Hes joked about them since his stand-up comedy Delirious. Yet no one *itches at him. Its all because shes young & is supposed to be a role model for the youngins.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:14 am
@Luz — for the record, I hated that movie as well as The Klumps. Humor like that is not funny to me.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Wow. I can’t believe people have brought up the Asian American guy in the photo. It is by far the most ignorant, ridiculous “excuse” for why this picture is “Not a big deal” I have ever heard. If the photo isn’t a big deal to you, than you don’t need to defend it. I have a friend named Seung and his eyes looked like that kid’s and he doesn’t spend his time making faces.
I am astounded by most of the comments made since this story came out. The people who are not offended are trying so hard to convince others not to be offended using the lame excuse above or Miley’s age. She’s 16, but what on earth is your excuse?
What I don’t think people understand is this isn’t about bashing Miley. The girl is barely even on my radar to begin with and as I don’t have a 12 year old daughter I don’t ever have to suffer her music or show. Separate the person from the action and the action alone is offensive IF you understand or want to understand the world from someone else’s view.
Asian Americans in this country have suffered racism. White people have not. The feelings of a offense that a minority group(black, latino, native American) may have when faced with a racist stereotype are not simply about looking for something to be offended about or being too PC, but rest in their own history in this country.
White people do not have that type of history here.
But no one wants to understand why some people might be offended. No one wants to hear it.
I’m glad Miley apologized, no matter how late or lame the apology was. If you step on someone’s foot by accident you don’t make excuses. You say sorry. Hopefully Miley will try to learn from this experience.
It’s the response to it all that really bums me out.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:17 am
I think I’m still shocked that a week later there are still people arguing that the Asian guy in the photo was trying to “look” white by widening his eyes.
That level of ignorance amazes me.
Wow. Just wow.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:50 am
[...] UPDATE – Cyrus finally gave a proper apology. [...]
February 10th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
I just don’t know about that Miley Cyrus. Why doesn’t she understand anything? She’s worse at being in the public eye than ANYONE! It should just be common sense what you shouldn’t do on camera when you’re a 16-yo celeb. At least she makes a pretty cute Asian girl.
Here’s my take: http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/?p=329
February 10th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
@Lana – The people who acted like it wasn’t a mistake were the ones that bothered me. It’s okay to make a mistake and I don’t really take her actions that seriously but she (and everyone else) needs to admit that it was a mistake. I take everyone’s nonchalant response to it seriously though. It’s the apathy that bothers me and it’s apathy that allows offensive behaviour like this to happen; because people think it’s “too small” to deal with. Even if it offends one person in the entire world, it deserves an apology.
I don’t think Miley’s racist, and I don’t think she’s evil. Like I said, I’m glad she’s apologized.
February 10th, 2009 at 12:49 pm

Go eat a donut now? What are you, 8?
I care about what Miley does because alot of my younger family members look up to her and I don’t want them learning that it’s okay to mock their asian friends for looking different.. or anybody else for that matter. Nobody was attacking her unfairly, she offended and upset alot of people and since, like I said before, she is signed with Disney .. she should know that everything she does is going to be studied by millions of little kids who want to be just like her. Because she is in that position I think it’s fine for people to point out that when she does something that may have been harmless but comes off as incredibly offensive, she should apologise so that her fans know that behaving that way in general is not ok.
If you don’t feel the same way fine. You said she didn’t ask to be a rolemodel and doesn’t deserve to be treated this way. She DID ask to be a rolemodel and she does have a very powerful influence so she should be made aware of the effect her actions have on others.
You say you have better things to do but you still go and defend her anyway? Where are your better things to do when you’re saying it’s ok for a famous popstar to teach kids how to mock people of other races?
February 10th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
She’s always apologizing for something. she needs to go away and come back when shes older and has talent…i don’t think shell be miss’d either way.
February 10th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
BOOO for pulling the “God” card. That’s not going to get you out of every stupid, thoughtless, ignorant, arrogant thing you do. I hate how people drop the “G” bomb and expect everyone to say “oh it’s ok she’s Christian, she didn’t mean to be an asshole”. BOOO. Lead by example, not by trying to clean up your mess with the “G” bomb.
February 10th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
i don’t know why i feel so compelled to comment when 60-something others have done so already, but here i am giving my two cents. i hate it when anyone, famous or not, perpetuates racial stereotypes (or any stereotype for that matter). i think this sort of behavior has been mistaken as acceptable behavior because these things happen all the time and nothing is ever said. kids don’t realize that these sorts of actions (the “slanting” of the eyes, for example) have loaded meanings. though it appears miley was not being intentionally racist (just ignorant), her actions still perpetuated racist ideas. stereotypes like these DO have a history of being used to discriminate against asians in the united states (take a look at any world war two “how to spot a jap” propaganda poster). while miley is getting a lot more heat for this than any other teenager would, it is absolutely necessary to point out that this behavior is not acceptable.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Wow. I am disappointed that she has been forced to make an apology for something that did not require one.
Horrible. I’m more disappointed in her making this apology than I was about the picture.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
wow. shut the hell up about this already.
