Kanye West Does ‘Details’ Magazine
Kanye West, and his very large head, are featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine. In his coverstory, West reveals that his drive for success in the music industry is most likely derived from his “sex addicted” youth … which is all kinds of disturbing on so many levels. But, it’s Kanye West and he is God’s gift to music so … just deal with it. Here is Kanye’s Details magazine coverphoto and a portion of his coverstory interview:

Kanye West is on another magazine cover (this time with a sure-to-be-appreciated gray-free beard) and as usual the rapper turned auto-tune singer turned fashion designer is full of Kanye-isms. To name a few:
“Put this in the magazine: There’s nothing more to be said about music. I’m the f–king end-all, be-all of music.” “Oh my God, I’m one of the greatest rappers in the world. I’ll get on a track and completely ee-nihilate that track, I’ll eat it and rip it in half. I wouldn’t have to think of it.” “I have, like, nuclear power, like a superhero, like Cyclops when he puts his glasses on.”
What other new tales of grandeur might Kanye have added to his repertoire? Just that a sexual addiction at a young age has somehow fueled his drive for greatness… “People ask me a lot about my drive,” he says. “I think it comes from, like, having a sexual addiction at a really young age. Look at the drive that people have to get sex—to dress like this and get a haircut and be in the club in the freezing cold at 3 a.m., the places they go to pick up a girl. If you can focus the energy into something valuable, put that into work ethic…” That actually sounds more like normal behavior than a full-blown sexual addiction, but if Kanye says he was a sex addict then he was probably the greatest addict to have ever been addicted to sex in the history of sexual studies. He also notes that he was a highly advanced computer programmer of sexual addiction and produced his first Super Mario Bros.: The Penis Remix in the seventh grade: “My game was very sexual. The main character was, like, a giant penis. It was like Mario Brothers, but the ghosts were, like, vaginas. Mind you, I’m 12 years old, and this is stuff 30-year-olds are programming. You’d have to draw in and program every little step—it literally took me all night to do a step, ’cause the penis, y’know, had little feet and eyes.” Cute, right? However, it should be noted that Kanye is over music and penis games as he’s now turning his great sexual addiction nuclear energy exclusively to fashion. He plans on moving to Paris and being mentored by his fashion idol Marc Jacobs. In fact, Yeezy is so into M.J., he intentionally left the designer’s number on the table for his Details interviewer to see. After all, what’s the point in being subtle now?
LOL! Kanye West is just a really funny man to listen to when he’s spoutin’ off. I love the Cyclops comment … except, someone should prolly tell him that Cyclops‘ nuclear power comes from his eyes when he takes off his sunglasses, not puts them on. And, you gotta wonder why it is so important for him to talk about that sexual video game he came up with in the 7th grade … I mean, really. It sounds a lot like when Kenny Chesney started bragging about having sex with “over 100 women” to try and get people to believe that he isn’t gay. It just sounds too contrived.
And since we’re on the gay tip, Kanye also waxes on the state of Gaydom in this new Details magazine interview. Altho he’s never been to a gay bar (and would NEVER go to one), he does reveal that he’s got love for his gay brethren. After the jump, check out two more photos of Kanye from this issue of Details and read about his thoughts on gayness …

Move over Webster’s: Mr. West is the new authority on word play. Kanye West considers himself the final word on many topics, as the Details cover subject asserted in this month’s issue. He spoke of the origins of his drive (sex), his future in fashion (mentoring under Marc Jacobs) and further embraced his own special connotation of the term ‘gay’. Kanye West explained to the interviewer, “titles are very important. I like to embody titles, y’know, or words that have negative connotations, and explain why that’s good. Take the word gay — like, in hip-hop, that’s a negative thing, right? But in the past two, three years, all the gay people I’ve encountered have been, like, really, really, extremely dope. “Y’know, I haven’t, like, gone to a gay bar, nor do I ever plan to. But where I would talk to a gay person — the conversation would be mostly around, like, art or design — it’d be really dope. From a design standpoint, kids’ll say, ‘Dude, those pants are gay.’ But if it’s, like, good, good, good fashion-level, design-level stuff, where it’s on a higher level than the average commercial design stuff, it’s, like, gay people that do that. I think that should be said as a compliment. Like, ‘Dude, that’s so good it’s almost . . . gay.’” He provided further examples: “‘Dude, that’s so good it’s almost gay!’ ‘Dude, you pay real attention to detail—that’s almost, like, gay!’ ‘You had a whole conversation with that girl without bringing up sex? That was, like, gay!’”
Um, yeah. Let me just say this for the guy … I really believe his heart is in the right place. You’d be hard-pressed to find other Hip Hop artists that would be so open to talking about homosexuality in a positive way. On the one hand, his pompous posturing is really annoying but his commitment to trying to bridge the gap between Hip Hop and homosexuality by championing the positives … I can’t hate him for that fact alone. I have my suspicions about what is really going on with his love for “gay” things but … that’s a topic for another time. He may drive other folks crazy (me included, sometimes) but sometimes he redeems himself too. What do y’all think about this new interview with Kanye West? Are any of y’all feelin’ his sentiments?

If he keeps on talkin’ ’bout the gays any more, I’m gonna starting calling him Kanye Go West.

The man has clearly lost the thread of sanity. I always question folks who have to constantly say how cool they are with gays, blacks, whites, Asians, six-toed people, mutants, etc…just deal with your issue, dude.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
I don’t know why he considers himself to be so cool.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
I feel that his heart is in the right place, too, but…he’s still the cockiest son of a bitch in the business.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Seriously, I can’t stand this guy! Does he really believe the toxic crap that flows from his lips? Dude needs a serious ass whoopin-by a girl. Bet he has a teenie weenie too

“Nor does he ever plan to” go to a gay bar. GOOD, Kanye. Don’t show up. We don’t want to listen to your lame ass rants nonstop. This douche messes everything he touches, ie Madonna’s Hard Candy.. TRENT, he said he never plans to visit a gay bar. Umm, if he can’t even be comfy in his own straight skin to go to a gay bar, then he does indeed have more issues than we though. I don’t care if he thinks were dope; I think he’s a dope who has a head with more air than a pair of Michelin tires!

Before everyone gets all huffy about Kayne and his ideas about the gays, remember hes not speaking to people that already know and like gays. He’s talking to those people in hiphop culture that think “gay” is the worst thing you can call someone. Gotta start somewhere
I kind of like Mr West

I think he is full of himself, and that he is NOT g*d’s gift to this world, sorry! There have been millions of talented artists who didn’t go on and on about how awesome they are….those are the ones I tend to have more respect for…
February 18th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
@ Schmee – thats my thought about it too

I can’t help it, I love me some Kanye! He cracks me up. I’m not a huge hip-hop fan but the reason I originally became a fan of his is because I saw this interview he did where he said he loves Fiona Apple and after hearing her second album, he found out who produced the record (Jon Brion) and asked him if he would produce his next record. Something about that just struck me as so cool. Most people can’t think outside of the box like that and I think even though Kanye fronts like he has this big ego, he’s really just a big music lover who wants to make great music. I relate to that part of him. He gets excited about music and collaborations and I think he has a lot of respect for his peers personally. As much as he goes on about how great he is, he also is always giving props to other artists and people that he likes and admires.
In that same interview, he talked about how homophobic rap music is and that was another thing I really appreciated about him. I thought that took balls to say that to his fellow rappers in the industry. A few weeks later is when the whole “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” incident happened and that cemented my love for him forever, ha ha. This is all before I had ever heard one song by him.
I may not always agree with him but I appreciate that he speaks his mind and isn’t always PC. He’s funny and more importantly, he’s interesting. Plus he’s really talented to boot. He adds something great to every collaboration that I’ve heard so far, Estelle of course, Maroon 5, Madonna etc.
So bottom line, I dig him!

All I can say is that I cannot STAND him!

Honestly… this dude is going through a lot in my opinion… and therapeutically channeling his energy in a direction that has never been done before… To me he just wants to be different besides being GAY, we live a society that clones are made for entertainment purposes, in other words gaining incremental revenues by a certain cliché “look” who is going to be the next- Michael Jackson, the next Whitney Houston, the next Beatles, the next Jordan, the next Tupac… If Kanye West decides to venture his creativity to the farthest extreme, by being the first and only GAY Loving rapper then by all means do so… but people let’s not be taken on a journey … at the end of the day… ART turns into CASH BABY!

I don’t know if he’s gay, so much as bi-polar … mood swings, manic episodes, grandious ideas about himself, OCD to do with clothes. When I saw pictures of inside his house (with his then girlfriend) you could tell something was up, just from looking at the decor – he had these perfect piles of L.V. suitcases around the house!

I agree sarahjessicamaybe – I give him credit for being original …

Kanye West needs to shut his mouth. I mean, sure, the guy is totally talented but it’s not attractive to eyes or ears when he brags about being the best artist ever. It is totally mediocre. His last album he released is his lowest selling one to date. The way he bitches about everything is just so… lame. Get over it and yourself.
February 18th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
This man never ceases to amaze me, really. It’s like whenever they put a reporter or a mic in front of him and tell him to do something besides rap this is what you get. It sort of reminds me of his awards show acceptance speeches when he in a round-about way basically says of course he won because he is the end-all-be-all in music. duh. While there are some of his songs I will admit I love (Goldigger and Good Life are my favs) I think he is ‘aight. He’s no Jay-Z. Definitely no Biggie. But he is entertaining.
Keep doing yo thing Kanye… sooner or later your head may actually double in size!!
February 18th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Oh. My. God. This guy is ridiculous. I for one think that if you are that arrogant, your music doesnt matter anyway because you suck at life. KANYE. YOU ARE NOT THAT GREAT. GET OVER YOURSELF. God I hate him so much.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
He;s the be all and end all of music? WTF. I couldn’t even name a song he sings. rofl
February 19th, 2009 at 12:38 am
am i the only one who thinks the quotes from the above article were absolutely HILARIOUS? it was the most ridiculous bunch of quotes ever– i mean, c’mon, “oh my god, i’m one of the greatest rappers in the world”! the penis remix!! and “dude, you pay real attention to detail– that’s almost, like, gay”!!! thank you kanye, and pitnb, for keeping me smiling. XD
February 19th, 2009 at 2:45 am
I didn’t read this rest of the article I was feeling “sick” I would say he thinks quit highly of hisself.I think he needs to just fucking embrass that fact he is a gay man in the closet!!!! So beleiving that I won’t hate you “DUDE” just come out already PLEASE
February 19th, 2009 at 5:31 am
Ummm yeah I’ve heard Kanye’s music and it is seriously not as amazing as he is trying to make it out to be. Am I the only one who sees what a self-centered asshole this guy is?
February 19th, 2009 at 5:32 am
Here’s what sad and crazy… all this narcissistic craziness is WORKING. He has fans (see schmee and others above, par example), and he continues to be famous with all of his ass-ness.
Put on the airs of being famous, cool, etc, and people will believe you. It’s the George W theory.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:59 am
So, did anyone else see on the cover that it’s been 15 years since the death of Kurt Cobain? That was half my life ago, and just seeing this cover made me recall how young and sad and angry I was about it (and other stuff in my life). Kanye West is annoying – I’d rather talk about Kurt.
February 19th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Super Mario Bros.: The Penis Remix
That may be the funniest thing…EVER!
@Panti Christ – I feel the same way.
February 19th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Wow kanye looks soooo fit on that cover, swoon.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
please spare me! god.

Kayne West might have an ego the size of North America, but you cannot deny his talent. I’ve had the privilege, and yes I say privilege, to attend a Kayne West concert, and can that man put on one hell of a show. No matter what, his talent is what this comes down to. Have you had the success that he has? Can you pump out hit record after hit record? And if you could, wouldnt you have an ego too? Whether or not you like his music, or the artist in general… remember 2 things… 1) he is an artist… and no matter what kind of art (I, personally am an art dealer (paintings, scultures ect) most artists are odd ducks! 2) He took the “Im gonna kill this b***h” or “Let’s go f**k that n****r up” out of hip hop (atleast his music…) And for that, I am greatful.
So give Kanye a break. Let him be the artist he is because whether you like it or not, he’s going to be around for a long time.
