First Look: Joseph Gordon-Levitt As Cobra Commander
Yesterday we got our first look at the new SuperBowl movie trailer for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and today we get to see what Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who plays master villain Cobra Commander) will look like in the film … kinda. Until now, the secret about Cobra Commander in this film has been on lock down but this weekend, new bio cards for some of the G.I. Joe characters have made their way to the Internets, including Cobra characters Storm Shadow, Zartan and The Doctor:

One of these characters is JGL, I understand, as he will be seen thruout much of the film … but by the end of the movie he becomes Cobra Commander. As I recall, the man who eventually becomes Cobra Commander was a scientist who suffered a freak accident that destroyed his face, which left him mad, bitter and was required to wear a mask to cover his entire head. After the jump, check out a few of the G.I. Joe character bio cards that have leaked and find out which one of these characters will become Cobra Commander …
To explain a bit, character bio cards were printed on the back of packages of the G.I. Joe toys back in the 80s. They were meant to be cut out, were index card size and were meant to be saved (like Top Secret government documents) in small recipe-size index boxes (well, that’s where I saved mine). These new bio cards look to be the same sort of thing … and may be printed on the back of packages for the new action figures tied into the film. Here are the bio cards for The Doctor and Zartan, both high level Cobra operatives:

According to information about the film both official and unofficial, The Doctor will eventually become Cobra Commander … who is played by Joesph Gordon-Levitt. In the comics, tho, The Doctor becomes Dr. Mindbender — the mad scientist who created Serpentor, the emperor of Cobra who replaces Cobra Commander as leader after he is deposed … but I’m getting way off topic. In any event, it appears that The Doctor and Cobra Commander are one and the same, at least in this new movie. Zartan, as you may or may not know, had chameleon-like abilities to change color in sunlight (his action figure did the same) and was a formidable master of disguise.
Here are the bio cards for Cobra operatives Storm Shadow (the bad ass ninja) and a generic Cobra Viper (one of many foot soldiers):

When I first saw these photos, I thought the Cobra Viper character was actually Cobra Commander … his face mask looks similar to one of Cobra Commander’s masks (but he also wore a hood over his face when he didn’t want to wear the metal face mask … but, again, I’m digressing). These new photos coupled with the movie trailer released yesterday have got me really excited for this movie. It opens in August, which seems like a long way off but, I suspect, will be here before we know it. Yo Joe!

Couldn’t The Doctor be Doctor Mindbender instead? Since it says he is helping Destro?

I can’t wait to see the movie either, but I’m totally going to flash back to the Robot Chicken version.

Is anyone else a little disappointed that there’s no Duke, no Gung-Ho, no Beachhead and no Flint? Those were my favorite guys. But supposedly, they want this to be a trilogy so maybe they’re saving those guys.

@Joe — Duke is in the movie (played by Channing Tatum) but, yes, I think Flint should’ve been included, too.
